The Scars Keeper by Author Scarlet Wolfe is a contemporary romance with a powerful topic, but so beautifully written. A book that will pull at your heart, but a book that will open any reader’s eyes young or older, I know it did for me.
In this book, we first meet Avery. She comes from a very wealthy family, very popular in her school. Avery’s father is a plastic surgeon and her mother is an anesthesiologist. Her father's expectations on Avery are beyond ridiculous. The pressure he puts on her to keep a 4.0 in school and be the best in sports, plus all the other after school clubs he expects her to participate in.
I'm forced to walk this tightrope they placed me in years ago, and I’m losing my balance. I’m tired, weak and no longer able to bear another second of this arduous life. I strive to leave my mark in it, but I fail with every breath. – Avery
At this, she feels no matter what her father never gives her positive reinforcement and no matter how hard she tries it's never good enough for him.
We need to find a solution to whatever is going on with you and fast, Avery. I mean it. I’m done with you not taking your future seriously- Avery’s Father
Avery’s parents soon will learn how their words have affected Avery. What damage has the pressure they have put on their daughter to be the best? Two other people will play a huge role in Avery’s life. One will be the person that caused her fear and the other will be the person to help her find her strength.
This is not the first book I have read by Scarlet Wolfe. I am a huge fan of hers, but I will say this is my first book I have read of hers in this genre. I am truly amazed by this book. I found so much about myself in this book. I can relate to this book in so many ways for example, just like Avery my mother expected nothing but good grades when I was in high school. If I had all A’s the first nine weeks I better have all A’s the next nine weeks. Now that I am a mother it kinda freaked me out when I read the part when Avery’s father told her to take her future as seriously because I have told my oldest that before and after reading this book and reading Avery’s story it broke my heart to even think I ever made my kids feel pressure. I literally put this book down and went and asked my kids if I ever made them feel pressured. This book was so well written that I do feel that no only a young adult could read it and think, yeah, that’s how I feel, but a parent could read it and maybe think you know what yeah, I want my kids to succeed, but I don’t want to make my kids be so stressed that at the end of the day we kill their spirit. So thank you Scarlet Wolfe for writing this beautiful book.
