A little heat never hurt anyone. Silas LeFroy has been burned in the past, but his inner dragon can take the heat. Now he's ready to move on however, he didn't plan on the girl next door moving in. His dragon wants to claim her, but he doesn't know where to start.

Violet Hanner is ready for the next phase in her life, one that doesn't involve her cheating ex-husband or the pity-filled eyes of family and friends. Swearing off men seems like the best place to start until she realizes her new neighbor is basically sex on a stick.

When Silas's past catches up to him and Violet finds herself in harm's way he has to make a choice. Stay stuck in the past, or let Violet ignite his future.

This is a STANDALONE shifter romance with an HEA and NO CLIFFHANGER!

A fantastic five-star read, that shows us a great start to the Desired by a Dragon series, leaving me wanting to know the other characters better, as Silas and Violet are just a match made in fate. This is quick paced and has more steam that we would usually find with this author, but the steam fits the story and I really enjoyed that. I adore this author and everything they write, but this dragon has certainly lit my fire.

There was so little mention of the shifter side of things it might as well been a normal M/F story and left any mention of dragons or shifters out of it.

Setting: Willow Vale
Genre: Shifter erotic romance
I read this as part of A Growling Good Time: Paranormal Boxed Set
Violet has moved 3 states away from her cheating, no-good ex husband to the small town of Willow Vale. She has sworn off men to the point that she won't even accept help carrying heavy moving boxes into her rented house. Not even her drop dead gorgeous sexy-sexy neighbor.
Silas is said sex-on-a-stick boy next door. Okay, he's not a boy, but it sounded good, yeah? He's actually a dragon shifter. Anyway, he shares his house with his sister Scarlett. They've lived in town for just a few months because they are on the run from Silas' ex girlfriend who turned out to be mega psycho.
So, Violet and Silas meet and insta-lust. Refreshingly, they don't participate in insta-sex. In fact, they know each other for at least a few days before they get jinky on the front porch. So... The story is about a couple working their way to a HEA, especially against Violet's resistance (you know, once bitten twice shy). There's also a small thrill of violence, and whatever headway Silas had made with her resistance was wiped away. So back to square one...
There are several rather graphic sex scenes, but the focus of the story is on plot and character. The plot is really interesting and I found the characters quite likeable. And grammar and usage are pretty good, and there aren't many typos.

Violet caught her husband and best friend in bed, so she left and moved to Willow Vale. Met Silas her next door neighbor and she wanted him, his dragon wanted her. Him and family were on the run from a huntress Vanessa after she tried to kill him. Vanessa found Silas but Violet went to his house to see what was happening and saw his dragon then ran. She realized that they were meant to be and accepted his dragon. New author and good book!.

I loved the chemistry between Silas and Violet. This book has two people that wanted nothing to do with love being drawn to each other. This book has mystery and twists.

Violet Hanner moves to the small town of Willow Vale for a new start, a new job and to get over the betrayal she feels from finding her now ex-husband in bed with her old best friend. While unloading her car she meets her new neighbor, the sexy Silas LeFroy and the attraction begins.

Despite intentions to avoid men for a while, Silas and Violet find their attraction to each other but he has a secret and a big one. To get to their happy ending, they face a dragon slayer, he reveals his true self and Violet has to accept that Silas is a hot dragon shifter she can't resist.

Both main characters are strong, sexy and face life's problems to find solutions to make Silas a great dragon shifter novella.

I borrowed Silas from Kindle Unlimited as part of the Desired by a Dragon anthology.

It's all in the details

Most novellas feel very rushed. Or just plain missing pieces. This book had a good flow. Until the ending. It felt as if the last chapter was missing. The story just suddenly ended.

Violet leaves her adulterous ex-husband to drive across three states to a small town for a fresh start. While moving in, she catches the eye of Silas, the neighbourhood’s resident hunk and her new next door neighbour. There’s an attraction between the two from the start, and despite Violet swearing off men, she finds herself being continually drawn in by Silas.
But Silas is a man with a secret—not only is he a dragon shifter, he’s on the run with his siblings from an unrelenting killer. A killer who may have finally tracked them down…

***

When I read the preview of the first 2-3 chapters, I was hooked. I found the dragon shifter premise really interesting, and both the H and h, Silas and Violet, were likeable characters that I wanted to learn more about. Although there’s insta-lust/love, I appreciated that they had a couple of meetings before they fell into bed together (or onto the couch in this case!). The romance and steam is definitely on the light side, but the hunter introduction added an element of suspense and intrigue that kept me invested.

This definitely has the markings of a good paranormal romance series—quirky town with mystery-shrouded residents, new woman with a past to overcome, hot supernatural man with a secret, his shifter relatives that can have their own stories, interesting lore potential—and I believe if fleshed out that this would make a really great full-length novel.

In fact, I think it may have been much better had that been the case, because as a novella I feel like it ends up being somewhat underdeveloped and lacking important details.

With fantasy, there’s always a lore that has to be introduced. You can’t really say, “Hey, i’m half-man, half-dragon” and leave it at that. Yet, this is pretty much what happens here.

We don’t learn anything about the dragon shifters, and unfortunately Violet doesn’t ask Silas about his transformation abilities either. Instead, she’s completely focused on something he does in self defence as apposed to the fact he’s a different species! If I was faced with my lover becoming scaly, I might have a few queries. As a reader, I had several too, such as:

Dragons don’t exist in our reality, so where do dragon shifters come from? What’s their history? Are they dragons who can shift into humans, or humans that can shift into dragons? Why are they being hunted? How did the hunters develop these innate abilities that seem to get triggered when a shifter shifts? What’s their history and connection to shifters? What other shifter breeds are in this neighbourhood that Silas mentions?

Many questions, and all of them unanswered.

Obviously, a novella has limitations, but I think a lot of the major points could have at least been briefly covered if there was more conversation between the H and h. For example, Violet could have asked all this rather than focusing on whether Silas defending himself was acceptable. Instead, she seems to get over the whole “my lover turns into a lizard with wings” thing without asking one question about it.
Then again, she also doesn’t mention her ex-husband to Silas or explain why she moved in the first place. In fact, I don’t think either know much about the person they are declaring their love for.
Of course, it’s understandable that they might not be the kind of people who divulge secrets early on in a relationship—one is part dragon after all!—but then they might not be the kind of characters best suited to a short novella.

Lack of detail/background is okay when the world has already been established in previous books, but Silas is the first in this series and not related to any other, as far as I know, so the groundwork should be here, even if it’s just a few pages. With a couple of tweaks here and there this could easily be a well-rounded novella (although i’m still an advocate for a novel, just because they’re my favourite to read!).

Saying all that, despite my disappointment at not getting to learn more about dragon shifters, I still found Silas: Desired by a Dragon to be an enjoyable read that’s well-written and a change from the usual wolf-shifter romances. If you like a short, insta-love, fantasy story, and are looking to while away a few hours, then this could be the one for you.

Silas (Paranormal Shapeshifter Romance) (Desired by a Dragon Book 1)
by Terra Wolf, Hailey Storm

Great start for a new series.

I have loved all the bear, wolf and cat shifter stories written by Terra Wolf. As well as the alien stories.

They have always drawn me right in and given me the escape I look for.

I love Silas and I am sure I am going to love the rest of this series too.

A pretty quick read. Fun, sexy story that actually has a small plot rather than just sex! Enough background to be interesting and enough sexy to warm you up. The author(s) does a good job of moving the plot along smartly, but without the random jumps that often plague this length of story.

This book started out with a jaded and broken heroine moving away from all she knew to rebuild who she was. Never did she expect after swearing off men that'd she would meet the one man that threatens that resolve. I loved the up and down of the angst and hot tension. It's great dragon shifter romance that didn't let me go til the very end... and I wanted more of these two. Excited to read the next...

Violet has moved across the country after finding her husband in bed with her supposedly best friend. When she arrives at her new home, she takes a bad fall twisting her ankle. And all in front of the hottest man she has ever seen in her life. This would be Silas, her hot new neighbour. He also happens to be a dragon shifter. Violet is a hairdresser and working at the salon where Silas goes. A dragon shifter kind of stalking his beautiful neighbour. A coffee date. A little black dress. Hot times with the neighbour. Running from an ex. Silas, his sister, and brother have been found. Fight or flight again? An enemy appears. A huge fight witnessed by a neighbour. A dragon. Shock. Ashes. Disbelief. An explanation. Hot dreams. Who needs hot dreams when you have the hottest shifter ever. Forever.

Silas and Violet . . .

Silas LeFroy had a bad relationship. Then Violet Hanner moved in next door and his dragon perked right up! But how would Violet react to hearing what Silas really was? Would she be afraid, or simply not believe him?

Violet also has come out of a bad relationship with a cheating ex-husband. She is ready start over, but the best way to start is to swear off men! Then she sees her sexy neighbor and has second thoughts on that. Will she give him a chance? And when she is put in danger by a hunter, Vanessa, who has come to kill Silas, will Silas be forced to shift in front of Violet to protect her? Could Violet ever accept being the mate of a dragon shifter? Or would she run from him in terror?

3.5 stars. Silas, the male dragon shifter lead, has sought a safe place for himself and siblings, after being chased a by a hunter. Violet, the female human lead, is looking for a new start after leaving her cheating ex. When they’re drawn to each other as neighbours, they need to work out if they can make a go of a relationship…

This novella is dual POV, and a simple but interesting story with a cute ending. I appreciated that the story is totally self-contained with possibilities for future stories but no dangling teasers. The relationship development is cute and character interactions enjoyable.

I've never read Jennifer Snyder before, but loved the idea for this book. Also loved Silas and Violet, but for some reason, I could never get completely pulled into the story. I do think it's worth a read, but probably wouldn't put it at the very top of my "to read" list.

Not Worth Downloading

I've read many books written by Terra Wolf and thoroughly enjoyed them. However, this book was a complete bore. I find it hard to believe that Ms. Wolf would write this crap.

Silas

I loved this book. Violet divorced her cheating ex husband and moved to a new town. She meets Silas, a dragon shifter when she is unloading boxes from the moving van. The sparks fly but evil lurks in the shadows. I highly recommend this book.
