We are in the car She s looking at me. I can see the love in her eyes for me. Then a huge crash. She s flung out of the window. I m thrown out too. A pool of blood. Waking up from a long coma Daman learns that he was in a massive car crash with a girl who vanished soon after the accident leaving him for dead. The Girl of My Dreams is definitely not your usual love story. About the AuthorDurjoy Datta s first book Of Course I Love You was published when he was twentyone years old and was an instant bestseller. His successive novels Now That You re Rich She Broke Up I Didn t Ohh Yes I Am Single You Were My Crush If It s Not Forever Till the Last Breath Someone Like You Hold My Hand When Only Love Remains World s Best Boyfriend Our Impossible Love have also found prominence on various bestseller lists making him one of the highest-selling authors in India.
Wow, poor Daman, Avni, and the Wicked Shreyashi. S is craaaaaaaazy. Wow-what a wonderful book by Mr. Datta and I loved the play on the mental condition for our hero which made him very unpredictable.
Shreyashi was terrific and frightening what with her omnipresence (Read it and you would know). It was fun trying to figure out the real thing with Daman and other characters.
I loved reading about the writing and publishing process. Jayanti was a witch :P, no she was a really powerful character loved her.
All in all, finished it in few sitting as it's limited due to the job and despite the distractions :P
Do give it a try and keep on reading.
People who don't read generally ask me my reasons for reading. Simply put I just love reading and so to that end I have made it my motto to just Keep on Reading. I love to read everything except for Self Help books but even those once in a while. I read almost all the genre but YA, Fantasy, Biographies are the most. My favorite series is, of course, Harry Potter but then there are many more books that I just adore. I have bookcases filled with books which are waiting to be read so can't stay and spend more time in this review, so remember I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.
This book is insane! The protagonist is insane. She made me insane. But what's good is the fresh story getting from Durjoy. I never miss out any of his books. No matter what he writes, I always pick up his new releases. He tried his hand at a thrilling love story, I won't say he failed at it but he couldn't really bring it up that excellent. I enjoyed it a bit. I had been waiting for the climax and didn't get it till the last page! Well, no spoilers here. Will be uploading the full review on my blog soon. And if you are planning to read something really quick this winters, you can go for it!
I like how much effort has been put into creating Shreyasi. The whole mystery around her identity had me hooked. In the beginning, I expected to relate to Shreyasi, but I am not that sinister/wicked so I couldn’t put myself in her place to understand her character. The other female character is Avni and I could kind of relate to her. I understood why she did what she did. (I am trying to keep this spoiler-free). Now let’s talk about our male protagonist here, Daman Roy. A guy who is severely impacted by a car accident that the only way to get him to do normal day-to-day activities is to create false memories for him. An experimental treatment called Retrieval-Induced Forgetting (Read about it here.) What had me intrigued was the fact that Daman is a complex character. Predicting his next move was a little difficult but I kind of figured out the ending before I reached there. This book had me on my tip-toes all the while. Every page turn brought a new angle to the story with it. The twists and turns were crazy and all seemed to connect, somehow. That’s what I love the most about this book. The fact that the author had let loose so many strands of different threads all around the story and finally tied them all together in the end. My another favorite thing about the book is that I had to stop reading and look up to absorb everything going on. My friends can vouch for this, I had some major reader’s feels (if that’s what it’s called). When I was reading this in school I had to pause and breathe because of the suspense, the drama was another level altogether. I was literally saying “OH MY GOD!” out loud and I sure did get a few weird looks. But that just tells us how amazing this book is. I highly recommend this book, it’s a great read. The world that Durjoy Datta created of Daman, Shreyasi and Avni is filled with mystery, love, and obsession. MY RATING : – 5/5 (Yes! It was a really good read, after a really long time).
There is one line I felt a connection with – “I broke out of that fantasy the minute it got real.” I love this line.
The stalking thing can give anyone goosebumps , the people get frightened by such things and someone with a reputation in society scared by such things the most, the novel share the problem and when reality hit us hard we don't know how to deal with it
I love the timing of Durjoy Datta's books' releases. As soon as you start feeling that it has been a long time since you read his last book, you come to know that next one is about to be released. And Durjoy Datta's novels have that feeling which makes you nostalgic about your days when you started reading Indian authors initially and liked reading love stories which seemed realistic. Not many authors have come out of that zone of writing the typical love stories except few and Durjoy is definitely one out of them. He has grown as an author immensely in his last 3-4 books and now in his latest one named "The Girl of my Dreams", Durjoy Datta have tried thriller and let me tell you, he has passed with good marks.
The Girl of my Dreams is about the protagonist Daman who is facing challenges in his life after surviving a deadly car accident. His girlfriend, Shreyasi, was with him in the car and he feels that because he was driving that day, he is guilty of her death. Now he has a new girlfriend, Avni, who is not very happy in a relationship because Daman is a writer and he names his virtual girlfriend as Shreyasi even after Avni asking him to use her name several times. The whole thing becomes chaotic and difficult for all the characters in the book when Shreyasi comes back in the story. Everyone is confused that she was dead then how could she return back in flesh and blood. And from here onwards, the curiosity of the reader starts growing with each page.
The characterization of Durjoy has always been mind-blowing and even in this book, each and every character is so well developed and defined and you can actually imagine them. Right from Daman’s confused character, Sumit’s helpful one, Shreyasi’s destructive nature to Avni’s composed one- every character has been given justice. Even Jayanti’s and Karthik’s character is beautiful portrayed and not treated as side characters in the book. The first half is exciting as you want to know what thrilling events are about to happen in the story and as Shreyasi’s character enters once, the book takes a different turn altogether. The 2nd half is well-written describing the struggle of Daman and Avni against the evil play of Shreyasi. As a reader, even you are in panic while turning each page. The segment where the car is been burned is one of the most terrific parts of this story.
The climax is also nicely closed and does not let you feel that in the name of thriller, you have been given a plain story to read. It feels as if a good romantic thriller has been gifted to you after a long time by an Indian author. I got a feel while reading this book as if I am reading a Novoneel Chakraborty’s book. Talking about the drawbacks, I felt that climax could have been little more hot and spicy as not much happens in the end. Also, not much is explained in the end about behavior of Daman at different point of time throughout the story. There were many things that were not justified in the climax which makes you feel little incomplete. Except that, The Girl Of My Dreams is a treat for Durjoy Datta’s fans. I give this book 3.75* out of 5.

A lengthy read: Indeed it is worth for one time reading.. Writer has kept the suspense till the end!! lot of repetitive lines.. well coming to story line: love is blind but here love is not only blind it is beyond blind..A passion.. Love gives strength to go beyond morlae.
thought for a read.. when love goes beyond morale, it sill called love or..... Lust? :-)
Durjoy keeps getting better and better with every book! And here I was, thinking World's Best Boyfriend would be my top favorite of his solo writing!
What's this book about?
Daman, Avni, Sumit and Jayanti have simple and happy lives until Shreya/ Ashi/ Reya/ Shreyasi decides to fuck them up. Why? Because Jayanti decided to screw with Shreyasi's amaze-balls personality! Things fire up and shit gets real!
What's so great about this book? (This might have spoilers, I am not sure if I can keep it spoiler free. I will try though! Read at your own risk!)
Every thing was on point. No sugar coatings and no make- believes.(ha ha!) This book had solid characters and as usual, a very awesome best friend character!
I loved the basic concept and reading this book was super fun! A little dark but not too much. Shreyasi was a very well written character! Like, she managed to make me worry about the safety of the others and that, I am guessing, is what the author was trying to get at.
I could see the book turn into a movie right infront of my eyes. This book, if any of Durjoy's were to be made into movies, would be epic to watch! Although the drastic change in the story was a little expected, it was written in a fantastic way!
All that being said, can I have my Sumit, please? He is single, right? Plus I would get to be friends with Daman, Avni and Ritu!
Alright, I am going to go get scared and keep my phone tight in my hands for the next few days. And I am going to keep adoring this book because this is the first author signed book that I have!!!!!!!
First off, story wise the book is moderate. There was nothing too intense or nothing too light. The story was dangling between the two like a sine wave. Although writing for this particular book could have been better; there are many places where the author uses the same metaphors again and again as if he ran out of new words to describe things. I thoroughly enjoyed the character writing and their behaviour. Its amazing how well the story has been modelled around the nature of those characters. However less extraordinary the characters were, they were the perfect fit for the story.
I bought this book in year 2017 and could not read it up until Jan 2020. And now I wonder why did I even buy it or it would have been better if I would have just kept it without reading. Too much going on in the book, author has mentioned every possible thing that he could imagine. A psychopath girl, stalker, accident, drama, PTSD, competition among authors and what not. the obsession is unrealistic and the storyline is unappealing.
One of the best book of Durjoy Dutta. This story was of different genre rather than a love story which the author use to write. This is also love story but it includes suspense, thrill, psychoness of what love can do to you. 4 stars for the story line bt after sometime it was predictable it will happen like this. Liked the book it's a better read...
Story is very different from the clan of durjoy datta books it starts off well but looses its grip in between which makes us hate the book and we will ask us ourselves that what the hell is going on. For a half read it will be great but after that it is throw-able. All & all nice attempt.
After years of not reading Durjoy Datta, I finally picked up the book in question The Girl of My Dreams, a 279-pages romantic thriller and I wasn’t disappointed. The protagonist Daman is terrorized by nightmares of a girl named Shreyashi, plunging to her death before his very eyes and his incapability to save her in the car crash. He is suffering from PTSD and finding it impossible to move on from the incident, even though Shreyashi is completely fine and has left the country. But when the shadow of a girl reappears in her life, the only question remains ‘Is she back?’ There is a lot the past has been hidden. I read this book in one night and it kept me on my feet. I loved the beginning of the novel. It was heartachingly, terrifyingly well-written. From Daman’s confusing nature, Avni’s caring one, Sumit’s protective aura to Shreyashi’s forbidding psychotic features, the author had well-rounded characters. Even side-characters like Jayanti and Karthik Iyer played their roles well. The setting of the novel was great. The emotions, as in the usual Durjoy style, were in perfect union. The novel started off as a thriller, but it lost its thrill somewhere in the middle and again picked it up towards the climax. The ending of the novel was predictable, and it didn’t do justice to the strong and mighty character of Shreyashi; even Jayanti’s character deserved a proper closure. The novel needed better editing. Overall, I would recommend the novel and ask the readers to read it more as romantic suspense fiction than a pure thriller. It is a pleasant and fun read.
The cover and blurb made me buy it. The story was something unexpectedly good mystery and thriller based on romance. what could have been the best was degraded by unnecessarily written romantic interludes and unwanted detailing of what they do with other person. This totally changes the genre of the book which could have been a very good thriller considering the premise and characters which are well written. We could picture Shreyasi, Avni, Jayanti and Sumit with their descriptions. Daman is for a main protagonist is over hyped. For some one who is the reason everything happens he does not seem to be worth it. He is mostly a playboy before he settled on one girlfriend. He does wants to write and not work but is irresponsible in how he portrays it. He is crazy, drunk and hot tempered which is not at all suited to him. Individuals who are honest and true are hot tempered when their integrity is tested or insulted. But Daman does not have any of this but still flares up as if he is perfect. If Daman was portrayed with all his flaws or if he were the typical hero it would have been good. Making a flawed person as the best is not much appreciable. At least sane people here are Avni and Sumit who say the exact things needed in all situations and veer the story from ending a crazy pool. And Shreyasi's suspense and background is well developed and we hate her for every time she messes up things and there is not an iota of pity forhow her character is dealt in the end. A good thriller with a practical female protagonist and invincible antagonist marred by unnecessary explicit romance scenes and over hyped male protagonist.
Being a stalker and taking wrong turns in love is as always like a ghost of own memories if bad happens to you its your part but when you do it same then it become badon your part.
This is psychological thriller and romance, a story of, A stalker who is playing with the minds of people around her, she find a victim as a writer named Daman roy who wrote the stories with her name over social sites and she started stalking him and played various tricks just to be in his good books , she almost ruined his relationship with his love interest Avni , loose his sanity, loose his integrity and he was on the verge of getting mad but his friend Sumit saved the day, he make a similar plot of the story and just add a setting into the scene and make Shreyasi villian of the story. She was obsessed with breach of privacy of the others that she can presumably can destroy life and ruined relationship just with some typing but Avni Sumit and Daman played safely. It would not have happened had his manager didn't try to make him something which he is not by planning and editing against his wishes and making story cheezy.
🌌The story kicks off with a scene of an accident which haunts Daman like forever. He was in coma for 6 months. The girl who was in car with him during the accident has vanished. His memories from the accident is dim, he sees terrifying nightmares everyday. Daman now has a girlfriend named Avani who's always there for him. Story takes a huge and frightful turn when the girl from the accident comes back and put forth unimaginable bargains. But is she really the one from the car crash? What if Daman refuses to her wants?
💫Honestly, I didn't expect this book to be so good. It was so so different from his other books. The story gets really engaging after around 100 pages. I was so hooked to it that I read rest of the 200 pages on a go. I was literally losing my breath while reading, just to know what's coming in next pages. It was full of surprises and shocks. The suspense made was great. I would love to read more books like these from him.
🍁If you haven't read any book by Durjoy Datta yet, you should check this one out!
After much time I got a durjoy datta flick which kept me held to itself. The girl of my dreams is story of Daman a debutant writer who becomes a sensation through his blogs on shreyasi- the girl of his dreams. However when published as a novel, the character of shreyasi changes from the editing team which compleately change her character.
And then Shreyasi whom Daman believed to be dead in an accident which left him in comma for months, comes from nowhere. What follows is a thriller where Daman meets Shreyasi who isn't happy with her potrayal to such an extent that she could harm anyone.
The plot is well written and the thrill keeps you in the story. You really want to see what comes next which keeps the book alive.
Well it actually wasn't that bad.. Much better than Chetan Bhagat for sure.. The thriller style which the author adapted was exciting, and kept the pace of the book going. However browsing through the other titles of the author I wouldn't probably read his other works - the reason being that the titles are too cheesy and not in accordance with my taste. Reading this book was kind of an experiment to know the big deal about Durjoy Datta, and I'm happy to have chosen this book to judge his work. Was worth my time atleast. Makes me wonder though - will these kind of books be classics and stand the test of time? Only time can tell..
Just finished this book some minutes ago. Everything in this book amazed me, there were no boring parts at all. This book is a complete pageturner. The words were simple and easy to understand yet had very deep emotions. I like those plot twists and characters and backstory and everything. Initially the way Shreyasi was portrayed,i liked her.....but later on i started to dislike her and get mad at her psychotic unhinged obsession.Gosh she's just too crazy. I'd never want someone like her in my life ...never ever .F for Daman ,Avni and Sumit.i rate it 5/5. This is a book I'd love to recommend to everyone 🌻and im sure I'll read more of Durjoy's works.
It's a run of the mill story, a love triangle in which a stalker girl & much married Shreyasi fascinated the boy Daman- who's a writer and tried to create a havoc in his personal & professional life, while his love of life Avni & his friend Sumit were devoted to make his life easier by untangling all mess. By the end there's a try to add some twist- a' la Sidney Sheldon style!! 😄 & ultimately all's well that ends well as Daman unlocks the real truth in dramatic turn of events. I might have given this storyline only 2 to 2.5 but as I read this book, the author seemed to have matured over years, in his language & description of events in this book. So, 3 stars for this one.
I picked this book because the summary seemed intriguing. But now, after reading it, it was a mess. It was a nice read but if you want to read something that gets you hooked and leaves you with a curious mind, this book is not it. Although a nice read but the ending could've been different. The doppelganger situation was interesting at the start. Later it's just complete insanity. If that would have been better written, I would have loved the book. But this is just my opinion.
this novel written by durjoy datta is beautiful and intersting. This writer is one of the most Known famous writer. This novel is based on love also it has various ficitonal characters which made me read this book.. must read!

It is really a nice one from Durjoy. I liked this novel most for its last 3 chapters from where I started getting an idea about the ending of the story. I really loved the way the story ends that satisfied me fully. The characters were introduced very well.
One star for good character building One for plot twist One for easy and clean writing, and One for satisfying ending.
One star less for some boring pats in this novel due to which I lose interest in the story sometimes....
The Girl of My Dreams brings a genre change to Durjoy Datta's career, but it is hardly appealing. The plot is thin that addresses obsession. This is the reason why despite of a promising beginning, the book is not able to pull through the expectations. The plot twists are well predictable and do not work at least for me.
Overall, I did not enjoy reading the book. It could have been better even with the same concept. It also needs a decent editing I believe; can be shorter to give it a sharper edge.
