This was a new-to-me author, and this book was full of sweet, gooey, fluffy goodness. Think Cardeno C, people.

Carter Greene is an up-and-coming musician, and the front man for Carter's Creed. He is severely injured in a fire, and saved by Ryan, the hot-as-sin fireman. Within seconds of receiving devastating news about his guitar-playing arm, Ryan comes to visit Carter. He lashes out in anger, and Ryan leaves the room.

Carter figures out who Ryan was pretty soon after, and feels terrible. The make up scene was delicious.

I'm not gonna focus on the story, because it was a good story with good relationship development. This wasn't insta-love, but it was insta-something. Maybe connection? The author did a good job with making me feel their connection to each other, even in the sugary-sweet, eye rolling moments.

This is only the author's second book, according to GR, and there wasn't a "polished" quality to the writing. Better content editing was needed because the author felt the need to explain a lot of things to the readers when we're pretty sharp and would pick up on that. Example:

"She had attempted to set me up on two disastrous blind dates until I threatened to quit speaking to her. She knew it was all bluster though, they were like family to me and I knew how fortunate I was to have them in my life."

I didn't need that second sentence. Based on their interactions, it was clear they were close. I don't need the added commentary. There was a fair amount of that in the book. Additionally, this author is a comma whore. There were extra commas everywhere, when a period or semicolon was needed, and it drove the grammar Nazi in me insane.

Let's talk about the dialogue. This is where the sugary gooeyness comes in. Most of the dialogue was good. But about once a chapter, there's a line that is so OTT cheesy that I had to highlight. Here are some examples for the good folks of GR:

"Why don't we go back to your place and you can show me why they call you Superman, The Man of Steel."

And the time I felt like I was in a Harlequin book:

"I want you to cuff me to this pole and use me for your pleasure." "[...] I promise, we will both experience pleasure tonight."

"Let me inside so I can feel your smooth walls."

I had to be sure that he was feeling the same way I was and to do that I needed to be able to look into his eyes. After all, they were the windows to his soul.

Gag-inducing stuff for my personal tastes. But, I want to be fair - most of the dialogue WASN'T like that. I enjoyed it overall, hence the 3.5 stars. The story kept me engaged, and I really dug the character development and relationship building. This author could just really use a good editor and some good betas.

I liked the writing and the story enough to go back and read Book 1. If you go into this thinking of it like a Cardeno C-level of writing, or perhaps even Conquest, then I think you'll enjoy this. Fluff has its place, and sometimes you're just in the mood for some sweetness. If so, give this one a go.

And I must mention the cover. Author nailed it with her choice of cover artist!

Cute but too cheesy and corny for my tastes. Dunno, something about the writing and dialogue felt off.

RECENSIONE COMPLETA QUI: https://thereadingslove.blogspot.com/...

description

Similar to first book. These have a very Made Marion feel (although I'm not sure which came first) -- thankfully the adoring parents aren't nearly as awkwardly oversexual as the grandmother/aunts in that series.

Carter and Ryan were very sweet -- the bad guy was sort of inexplicably evil. Again, this is a surface treatment but fluffy and tons (tons, skipped scenes) of sex. I do love how Carter and Caleb call each other Bubby. 💗

Yummy book with a nice story. It's the second of a series but it can be read as a stand alone (in fact, I haven't read the first one and didn't feel I was missing anything). Both books available through Kindle Unlimited (10/7/16)

The series is about the Greene brothers. This one is about Carter, the musician of the family and identical twin to Caleb (the MC of the first book).

Carter is a mix of sweet and kinky and delicious all in one package.

Oh, did I mention he has a thing for Andrew Christian underwear? :)

And Ryan is the hot firefighter that saves Carter's life.

Oh, forgot to mention that he has a thing for Carter in his sexy underwear. :)

The two of them have a rough start due to a misunderstanding but, after they talk things through, the fireworks between these two light-up the whole Chicago sky.

The book finishes with a HFN ending and a hook for the next book on the series. The third installment will have Landon, Carter's older brother and manager of his band, and Micah, the new head of security brought over to deal with the threats to Carter's life.

A good read! Recommend.

Music of the Soul: Souls of Chicago #2

Just finished ‘Music for the Soul’ and I enjoyed it very much as it suited my mood for the past couple of days.

How strangely romantic was that meeting between Carter and Ryan? Many dream of being tossed over the shoulder of a hot Fireman 🥰🥰. However, all didn’t go too well because of Carter’s rudeness when His Fireman visited him in hospital.

Well he did make up for it later on when they became an item. Ryan was adopted by Carter’s lovely family and his siblings.

Carter is lead singer, songwriter and guitarist with his band, ‘Carter’s Creed, and when they’re offered a gig touring for three months with the No. 1 band in the world he is over the moon.

Ryan feels uneasy about the separation being the end between them, but is assured by Carter that they are now exclusive boyfriends, and he only wants Ryan.

Half way through the Tour Gig, Ryan is having trouble missing Carter, plus a colleague at the Fire Station is exhibiting very homophobic behaviour and threats.

There is more trouble and Ryan ends up in the Emergency Room.

I’d read book 1 in this series which just pips Book 2 as my favourite so far, Gino and Caleb were more engaging characters for me. I’ve added later books to my WTR list as I want to know more about this Greene Family and Carter and Caleb’s siblings.

There’s hints dropped in this one that Landon Greene will get his own story. He is Carter’s older brother and Manager of the Band and he leaves us on a cliffhanger note when he receives some letters in the post addressed to Carter.

There was no Triggers or much angst here apart from the homophobia from workmate situation, which was handled well by the author.

*** I am lovin' this series !***
This second book and it's just as gripping as the first.
They can stand alone.
We get to see the marvelous previous characters, like Caleb, Carter's twin and his hubby, Giovanni.
Ryan, Firefighter/Lieutenant,

had saved Carter from the fire, and Carter, talented musician/band leader, had just been told he may not get use of his hand back. He was angry and treated Ryan badly when he'd stopped in to see how he was doing.

Now, Carter is recovered from his therapy,

has his usage back, and wishes to apologize to Ryan. Ryan did save his life, when no one else would go in. Carter's family is extremely thankful.
Ryan has never had a family, it was only him and his grandpa, until he died, but he learns. Ryan and Carter have sparks that ignite when they get together. Neither man has ever felt that sizzle and connection. Their sexy times are fabulous, with sexy undies, role play, etc....

There are two main things to deal with; one is the homophobe at the firehouse, and second is the contract and a tour on the road for Carter.
This is well written and holds our attention. We see love, fun and steadiness, plus hate, violence, and a shake-up.
Very worthwhile. Highly recommended. ENJOY !

Carter and Ryan have a great story. The beginning was a little slow for me, but once these two put their differences aside it moved really quickly.

I really felt for Ryan. He's never really had any family around beside his Grandpa and his best friend. I got teary-eyed a couple of times when Carter's family interacted with him. I really do love Carter's family. They are so loving and welcoming.

This was book 2 in the "Souls of Chicago" series. Carter Greene who we met in book 1 is the twin of Caleb is a music genius. Carter was hurt in the fire at Romero's the restaurant his brother and husband own he was saved by a hot fireman and when he showed up at the hospital with flowers he was mean to him because he got some bad news about the arm that was hurt in the fire. Lt. Ryan Marshall has led a pretty solitary existence ever since his grandfather passed away. He spent most of his free time renovating the property he inherited while avoiding the whole dating scene. While out drinking with his best friend he sees Carter and his band preform and although the band is good he can't forget how Carter treated. When Caleb ask for his help with a calendar for the gay youth center he agrees and comes face with Ryan. Carter can't stop thinking about Ryan so he ask him out on a date. This was a really good read that I wanted more of this book was more erotic than the first one but I felt that this book left off on a cliffhanger. Carter has been a kinky manwhore never having any real relationship with the guys he hooks up with and his favorite thing besides threesomes is being tied up or handcuffed. Ryan who has never had a threesome wanted to try it for Carter he couldn't do it and Carter realized that he couldn't do either. I listened to this book as well as read it and I loved it. I really like the way Michael Pauley tells the story of a book. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading or listening to the next book. I want to find out what's going on with Landon and Micah.

Sweetness!

This book was what I would call comfort reading. It was really sweet and a lot of fun. For me this was far and away better than the first book. However, I think it's beneficial to read the first book so you know all the characters.

This book is about Ryan the firefighter and Carter the musician. There is a fire that happens in book 1 and Carter is trapped and hurt. Ryan goes in and finds Carter and saves him. That's how they meet. After the accident Carter gets some bad news and Ryan is the one who takes the brunt of his frustration. From there we are taken on a ride of them coming together and realizing they belong with each other. There is no angst, no misunderstandings, it's all sweetness!

Now THIS is how you write a beautiful love story.

Author Annabella Michaels truly outdid herself with Carter’s and Ryan’s story, the second book in the Souls of Chicago series. If you were like me and had been waiting for this one with bated breath, consider yourself forewarned because this one will leave you breathless. I simply don’t think I’ll be able to write a review worthy of doing it justice in conveying how much I enjoyed – no loved – this story. I can’t recall a book I’ve read where I felt as one with the characters – it goes beyond good writing and brilliant characterization – and this book has immeasurable amounts of both of these elements – it has the steamiest, most loving, erotic, passionate, and emotionally driven sex scenes; authenticity; thorough, engaging, and seamlessly threaded story lines; romance; chemistry; and just…sigh. I’m so in love with Carter and Ryan. It doesn’t get much better than this…but then, I may have thought the same after Caleb and Gio, so the anxious wait for Landon’s and Micah’s story awaits. I have a feeling THAT one will be even hotter yet.

_____________________________________

I don’t know how long we stood there, but he held me until I was cried out and all that remained was my gentle hiccups as I calmed back down. Carter was exactly what I had needed. He was my comfort. I took a deep breath and wiped by eyes with trembling hands.

“Thank you. I’m sorry about that, but thank you.”

His eyes were filled with worry, but he gave me a beautiful smile that made my heart melt.

“Don’t ever apologize for coming to me if you need something. I want to be that person for you.”

____________________________________

“Nothing can scare me away, but if you keep looking at me like that, I’m going to have to drag you away from here and bury myself inside of you so deep that you won’t know where I end and you begin.”

________________________________

I know it was stupid, but I needed to know that when he left, he would be carrying evidence of our love with him. While no one else would even know it was there, Carter would know and that was what mattered to me. Carter seemed to understand that need and he clung to me, his eyes never leaving mine as I filled him. More was said between us in that moment than in any other time we had spoken actual words and we stopped existing as two separate people: our souls merging into one.

«Oh, quasi dimenticavo.

Good story but again minor grammatical errors distract

As with book one in this series the bones of a great story is here but it suffers from poor grammar mistakes. Commas are thrown at sentences willy nilly and the verbiage use is again at times confused.

But, having said that, there's a good basic story here, I like this richly detailed family and the people in their lives and I like the relationships she builds between her main characters.

Superb cover once more and the same quality sex scenes, but this time with more of a kink, help to cover up the small flaws.

Music Of The Soul is book two in Annabella Michaels Souls of Chicago series. In this one, we are getting the other twin's story. Carter lives for music. It’s deep in his soul and runs through his veins. A relationship is the furthest thing from his mind. His band, Carters Creed, is hopefully headed for big things and love would complicate all of it.

Of course, Carter never thought he’d almost die in a fire and be rescued by Superman, but alas… here we are. Ryan saved Carter from dying and it turns out it was a rescue that leads to relationship.

They have a tough go of things when Carter’s music takes him on tour but where other relationships fail due to distance, Ryan and Carter are too wonderful as individual selves to accept distance to be a killer.

This is a very sweet story. I shed a tear or two but it was mainly a sexy romance. Lots of sex… kinky creative sex. I fell in love with the Greene family in book one and just fell harder for them in this one. The Greene twins seem to have a thing for finding men with no family so bringing them into the fold is effortless.

There’s very little conflict or angst in this story. It’s a relaxing romance that warms you through and through.

Carter just received potentially dream breaking news, that he might not ever be able to recover enough to play instruments again and he is a musician. Ryan, the firefighter, who pulled him from the fire at the restaurant, that Carter's twin Caleb's lover Giovanni owns come to visit, Carter is uncharaceristically rude to him, not in the mood for company. After months of physical therapy, he is told he made full recovery. Carter's band, Carter's Creed is a local Chicago favorite. They get scouted by a National label that send them on a national tour with on the biggest bands. Carter' s brother, Landon, is Carter Creed's manager and goes on tour with the band. By the time of the tour Ryan and Carter are in love and Ryan receives a carrer ending injury when fighting a fire. In setup for the next book, the band finds out they are going to be headlining a European tour.

Music of the soul

The plot started good. It sort of picked up from book 1.
When Ryan met Carter the story picked up and looked promising
The dating great, then the relationship started and was sex sex and more. It got boring really fast. I ploughed through ,but I should have just given up.
