Resuming from Episode 1, the elven wizard Bryn has been preparing his young charge for her destiny for years. He has molded the warrior Elatha, teaching her and training her, providing companions to help her on her mighty quest.
But now an old enemy has returned with dire warnings, and it may soon be time for Elatha to face danger. Bryn can’t help but wonder if either of them are ready.
THE CHRONICLES OF CALIBRAN A challenging experiment in fantasy storytelling, The Chronicles of Calibran are an ongoing serialisation depicting the frenzied battles, political intrigue and personal dramas of a new kind of fantasy world, and it all starts here.
The Dragon King recounts the burgeoning alliances, bubbling resentments and mounting threats of an epic struggle that will thrill fans of fantasy. If you’re looking for a new world to explore, then The Dragon King is for you; the first of 48 planned episodes of a pulse-pounding saga that introduces the key players in a monumental contest for control of this vibrant, fully realised world.
A Warning on the Wind picks up where Dragon King left off. Actually, it seemed as if you were turning a page versus reading a new Episode. As you would expect, episode Two digs deeper and answers some of the questions that are asked in Episode One. It also expands the world. In Episode One we met the Dragon King and those within or surrounding his world. In Episode Two we begin to meet characters beyond the walls of the castle. I rated this book lower than the Dragon King primarily because of its length. For this type of genre, the episodes or books are too short. Just when you start to get excited it ends. It becomes more of a nuisance than a cliffhanger. For me, it can be a deterrent to reading the remaining episodes as they come out. My advice - combine episodes so maybe you have Vol I, Vol II, or books with different names. It’s a good read and has the potential to be a great read. (Note: I received this book in exchange for an honest review) –Tex.
‘A Warning on the Wind’ is the second proper episode (not including the two prequels) of the Chronicles of Calibran, Season 1. In it, the reader is introduced to another of the groups that will (presumably) go on to form the core protagonists of the current season.
This instalment provides a solid foundation for the story of Elatha, guided by her elf and half-elf mentors (and one dwarf). As with the previous episodes/prequels, I found myself immediately immersed in the world of Calibran and disappointed when this all-too-short installment ended. There are a few minor typos and formatting issues, but nothing that distracts from the story.
All in all, ‘A Warning of the Wind’ does not disappoint. Right... now I’m ready for Episode 3!
I have only one complaint with any of the Calibran stories, they always end with me wanting more. If you have not read them I strongly encourage you to get them all. I can not wait until the story is finally completed. One thing which Alberto and his co-writers have avoided are the stereotypes that all too much high fantasy has fallen into. Well worth your time, just wish they were longer.
