Catalog of a 1988 Smithsonian show, which Alaskan author Dana Stabenow loved and about which she wrote: "I went back to see it I don’t know how many times. I bought the book, too, which you will pry from my cold, dead hands. It’s the best written and best illustrated exhibit book I’ve ever seen."

Well. Not quite up to Stabenow's glowing comments, but interesting. Not an area of indigenous art I know very well. I found an inexpensive used copy.

For me this was a 3.5 star read. I saved my copy, and will likely return to it. Cautiously recommended.

Text is laid out like a textbook, but there are tons of beautiful images of physical items throughout the book. It's almost like going to a museum.
