A perfectly fine book for what it is, but it just wasn't what I expected or wanted. I took the title to mean that it would contain quotes from actual German people that were related to German thought, attitudes, customs, history, etc. What I got was quotes from some Germans but also some people who are of German heritage who haven't lived much everyday German experience, and covering a wide range of topics, largely unrelated to Germany specifically.

My relatively low rating is for both the mildly misleading title and for the moderately generic and unfocused nature of the quotes, not for the overall quality of the book. If you're a person who enjoys reading general quotes from cool people, you'll love it and rate it higher, and that's great! But it's just not for me, and I wish I'd realized that going in.
