Noah Mann is known as the practical joker on the San Antonio Generals, always ready to cheer up—or prank—his teammates with his quick wit. The star defenseman definitely lives by the motto that laughter is the best medicine. Medical resident Riley Marks is quiet, serious and married to her job. She has to be if she’s going to achieve her dream of being a pediatric neurologist. She can’t let anything—or anyone—distract her from her goal, especially not an arrogant hockey player who seems to think everything in life is a joke. A blind date leaves Noah wanting to know more about the brainy beauty, but Riley is reluctant to get involved. Can Noah break the ice and convince Riley it’s okay to let loose sometimes, and will she take a chance that there’s more to the jokester than meets the eye?
Michele Shriver’s BREAKING THE ICE is a heartfelt addition to the Men of the Ice series. NHL defenseman, Noah Mann, is set up on a blind date with medical resident, Riley Marks. The two seem like opposites; Noah is a practical joker, and Riley is studious and serious, but their relationship is just what the doctor ordered. This contemporary sports romance takes place in San Antonio, Texas. It is suitable for new adult audiences.
BREAKING THE ICE is a cute story. I enjoyed both characters. Practical joking hockey stars are one of my favorite heroes. I love to laugh. Riley is sweet, smart, and has a huge heart. She works with children, so it totally tugged on my heartstrings. They are set up by Kendall Myers and goalie, Becker Lawson (from book 4). Riley, is Kendall’s daughter’s doctor.
I like that Noah and Riley met after the NHL All-Star game. During those competitions, fans get an idea what their favorite hockey stars’ personalities are like. I think it was cleaver that Riley gets a sneak peek of Noah before they officially meet. I thought it was cute that they are both closet comic book hero fans Noah is clever with his date ideas. The two end up having a lot in common. Riley ends up going through a difficult situation that Noah could help her deal with. Noah and Riley are an adorable couple that help balance one another. I truly enjoyed this story, flying through it quickly. BREAKING THE ICE is a wonderful addition to the Men of the Ice series. I am looking forward to Michele Shriver’s next book in the series. This was a short read, which brought us into Riley and Noah's world. They had a cute relationship and went to places you would necessarily expect a Resident and a Hockey player to end up. Riley was as dedicated and compassionate, as you would expect a resident to be. She loves her patients and wants to give them every part of herself, which does not allow for relationships. Noah was a nice if somewhat quirky hockey player who continued to persuade Riley to give him a go until he could win her over. I expected more from Noah hoping he could add some more lightness and fun to the story. Overall a good short read.
“Do you want to go first?” Noah asked. “Maybe I better not,” Riley said. “I haven’t done this since i was a kid, and I think I’d be better off watching your technique first.” Noah grinned. “Are you sure you’re not just saying that so you can check out my butt?” “Nope.” Riley smirked. “I’m interest in learning from a master. Your butt is merely an added bonus.”
Breaking the Ice by Michele Shriver is book number seven in the Men of the Ice series. This is Noah Mann and Riley Marks' story.
Noah plays for the San Antonio Generals with the reputation for being the joker or fun guy. Since Riley is a medical resident she has no personal life. Riley an Noah get setup on a blind date. There was a connection between Riley and Noah. Noah wants to pursue the relationship but Riley feels it's a not good time in her life even though she wants to pursue a relationship. Will Noah give up or will Riley go with her heart?
I really enjoyed this story. The author got my attention from the beginning to the end. I fell in love with Noah's character. He was so patient with Riley. The chemistry was great between them. I also loved how the author incorporated the importance that charities provides to our communities.
Get comfortable because you won't be able to put this book down.

Hockey here we come. If you are a fan of the sport or just love a good quick read this is the book for you. The whole series is fantastic. But, the characters in this one are real honest and hard not to fall in love with. Noah is a prankster and Riley is a no nonsense doctor but, when the two of them come together they find the balance that they both need in their lives.
Noah & Riley are soooo sweet! This was a cute, quick read. No angst, really, either. Just a nice recovery read. There WERE quite a few editing issues, however. Nothing too terrible, but enough that I noticed they kept happening. Still, enjoyed the story! : )
