Romance writer Jennifer Graham heads to Dublin for a two month research trip, and to heal from a recent breakup. The last thing she is looking for is romance, especially with another workaholic...and then she meets Ian Shephard.

He's the son of her best friend's Irish Aunt, the one she is staying with while she's in Ireland. He's staying there too, temporarily while his condo is being renovated. Their attraction is immediate and unexpected. But dating Ian would be a very bad idea, for three very good reasons. He's not looking for a relationship, he is a workaholic and he lives in another country....

So, they'll just be friends.....that's the plan anyway.

I have now read all 5 books in the series. I read them in 1 weekend. These books lack depth and are pretty boring, I had to read all 5 to see if they got better but they do not. These are supposed to be romantic but the characters don't seem to have deep feelings towards each other at all. Also I am not sure if the author re read her books because there were quite a few mistakes in them. In one book character Jenn is best friends with Traci & in another book her best friend is Mandy & Traci is not even in the picture. Also in this book Jenn goes back to Ireland with Ian straight away & they are engaged but in a previous book he goes back to Ireland without her & she decides whether she is going back to visit....very confusing. You would have to read all 5 books to know what I am talking about but you may not want to waste your time.........also I know the author is a food writer but way too much food & alcohol taking up space in the books, I have a feeling these books are pumped out in a couple of weeks.

I should have known not to mark this as currently reading on Goodreads when I was a bit on the fence about this. I liked the idea of Jen going to Ireland to work on a book. I feel like the story could have been more developed, it had potential but for me it fell a little bit flat. Great idea, but better luck next time probably! This was a Bookbub freebie probably at some point. This was a DNF at around 60 percent.

Generally, it was a light read and can be recommended.
But there were a few things I did not like about it.
First of all, I was waiting for the plot twist which came very late and very abrubtly and therefore was soon over. On top of that it was very predictable what would happen and how the story dissolves.
I was looking forward to the details of descriptions about Dublin because I know the city pretty well, but I was disappointed. No pubs or streets or anything like that were mentioned, not even drinks specific for Ireland or Dublin. It could have taken place anywhere in the world.
Despite these two aspects it was a nice and entertaining read.

Had potential

It was interesting to read about a writer's process & the lush Ireland bakground wasn't bad either. There was a possiblity of industrial espionage but nothing. The most excitement was bingo crowd revert to highschool drama.

3 coccole e mezzo.

I liked the plot to this story and all the characters are lovely. What I didn't like at all was the lack of anything really "Irish" about it, except for the title and all the scones that were mentioned in the story.

Most of the time, when an author writes a story that takes place in another country, they use the occasional word/phrase or refer to actual places/people that relate to that country. The descriptions of Ireland in this story were so generalized, it could have been talking about any place. They visited several "towns", all about an hour drive from Dublin, and walked down "Main Street", visiting the local shops. So very vague, I felt no sense of place...and I've been to Ireland several times, but still couldn't really picture what the author was talking about. It felt more like she was describing some small mid-western or seaside town in the US.

Due to the lack of Irishness in this story, it could have been taking place anywhere, and probably should have taken place somewhere else. Seriously, who dreams of going to Ireland and meeting a rich software developer?

I just think if it had been done properly, it could have made a big difference in the story. Montana girl out of place in Ireland...it could have made it much more interesting. And more description of the country and it's culture definitely would have made it better.

Now, all that being said, I did enjoy the story. I liked the relationship between the hero/heroine very much, as well as the relationships between the other characters. it is a good story. It's just that if you're going to write a story that takes place in Ireland, then it should have a bit more Irishness to it.

As an author, I could relate to Jen. Some of the personal struggles she had been through really hit home.

This romance was sweet, heartwarming, and put into perspective how much research and insecurity come with writing. I loved the first few chapters of showing the balance between Ian and Jen's odd relationship. The ending felt very rushed. It went from Ian and Jen breaking up to suddenly Ian proposing after a few weeks separation. It felt a little forced.

Not to mention the setting was supposed to be Ireland. I just got back from there and have done a LOT of European travel. The book wasn't accurate. There was little in the way of Irish cuisine, culture, or anything involved. The author couldn't even name smaller Irish towns. All that was mentioned was "Jen went to a smaller Irish town an hour away from Dublin."

Dublin city center isn't like that either. It's hotels and shops and tourist stuff. Not a lot of houses near downtown Dublin. The streets are narrow. Very narrow. How was this not mentioned? I felt like it lacked a lot of authenticity. It was a cute and easy read for a romance, but it had no depth.

It even took me awhile to figure out how to rate this because I wasn't sure how I felt.

A warm and inviting story that will leave you with that fuzzy feeling that only true love can, we discover Jen, an American romance writer that, with the encouragement of her neighbor and best friend, Mandy, flies to Ireland with the intent of research for her next book. After recently breaking up with her long-term "workaholic" boyfriend, Jen is even more determined to leave for Ireland, and the sooner the better. When Mandy suggests that she stay with her Aunt Sorcha, and that Sorcha has suggested this herself, hopeful for the company, Jen decides to take her up on the invite. What she wasn't expecting to find though, was that one of her son's had moved back in for a bit, pending the completion of major renovations to his condo. Nor was she expecting the sparks that flew between them. But Ian's a workaholic, and that would mean a definite "no-no" for boyfriend material, and she certainly doesn't do flings. Now the only question left to answer is whether or not her heart will agree with her head? And, will Ian finally slow down for love, or will he maintain his workaholic ways?

Sweet, whiny, and bland in Ireland. This book had a few pet peeves of mine. I don’t like bossy men who can’t handle being bossed back, and why is the main character continually giving the cold shoulder instead of verbalizing her issues? It started to feel like an advertisement for being passive aggressive. Also numerous characters were described as kind, but never demonstrated it. What’s with that? The two main characters had issues that implied the next book would be called “Divorces in Ireland Take Forever” since it seemed unlikely they were even aware they had issues, other than the one that is continually whined about. I do think that the author has potential, but I suspect that she needs about 10-15 years to mature.

Devon is a county in the south west of England. Roast beef, roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding are English. The clue is in the name. Who calls their child 'dear'? Where are the 30 storey residential blocks in Dublin and where are the quaint villages with Main Street? Why no traditional Irish names? It's a bit ironic writing a book where the main character is but the author hasn't researched her book.

This has been on my Kindle "to be read" pile for a while now and decided that since it says Winter, it might be the right season to read it.
Well, Winter in Ireland was different from how I picture Winter, and I live in Colorado. There weren't even any talk of the white fluffy things that fall from the sky. Bummer!
Jen and Ian's love story was ok. There were tension and attraction from the beginning but they both didn't want to get into anything serious. Jen just broke up with a workaholic man back in Montana and when she flies to Ireland to do some 'research' for her romance novel, she meets Ian who is related to her bff.
I give this a 3 star because the storyline didn't grab me. If anything it left me with more questions. I've always admired story lines that flow like a puzzle being put together. At first you just have a bunch of pieces but as you move along the story, the pieces starts to fall in line with each other and at the end you have this beautiful picture with details and connections that you understand. Unfortunately, I didn't feel that here.
For one, why did she have to go to Ireland to 'research' a software company? Why can't someone do that here in the States? Another thing, so she's in Ireland, but howcome there weren't even any hints of Irish culture in the language of Ian and the other characters in that setting? I had wished that I would feel the area or location of the book by the dialogues and language.
Over all this book was average for me. Sorry!

Winter In Ireland
Montana Sweet Western Romance

Pamela M. Kelly

Reviewed by Roy Murry, Author

Two cultures meet in Ireland. Jen, after a break up with her longtime boyfriend, goes to Dublin to get background for the Romance novel she is planning to write.

One of the characters lines is the paraphrase, 'All Romance novels have happy endings.' However, does Ms. Kelly's Romance novel with Jen from Montana and Ian from Ireland have a happy ending?

All the signs are there except there is one Jen abhors, and that is Workaholics, a trait that Ian has. It's a complete turn-off.

Will his other charming traits, good looks, money, and family, bring Jen around to loving him the way he loves her? Well, it might be the reason to read this original conversational novel of two different cultures.

I bought the book because I am going to Ireland soon. This novel did give me a touch of its world.

I had to read this for book club (not my pick) and that is the only reason I finished it. I am puzzled by the 4 star average rating here. The writing is clunky, like something I would expect as a first draft in an introduction to creative writing class in college. There’s no sense of place. This story could take place in any no name locale. It certainly doesn’t feel like Ireland. The characters are cardboard cutouts, the story is a slog, and nothing about it felt believable. As another reviewer mentioned, I’m thankful this was a “sweet” romance, because I dread to think how the author would handle a sex scene. Even the more intimate scenes with kissing and off-page sex were cold and awkward. I want those hours of my life back.

The story was as expected with a romance. It was a cute little story. Would have been better with more character development as well as more details related to the development of the relationship between Jen and Ian. One minute they didn't much like each other and the next minute they were falling in love. The part that bothered me was that the story supposedly occurred in Ireland, but I didn't see anything in the story that was really specific to Ireland. It could have happened someplace in the USA. About the only thing that might be Irish was that Ian called his mother Mam. I don't think the author has ever been to Ireland, nor did she research it much.

A cute fun romance story of two people who shouldn't like each other but they do. The main character Jennifer was a little bit judgy toward Ian, her love interest. She breaks up with a workaholic only to be interested in another and paints him with the same brush as her ex.

I like how their story developed and some of the side stories. I would have like to have felt more immersed in the Ireland culture but the descriptions felt really light. Overall good read, but not as much depth as I would have liked.

Winter In Ireland (Montana Sweet Western Romance Series Book 5) by Pamela M. Kelley (Author)
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the novella Montana Sweet Western Contemporary Romance Series Book 5:Winter in Ireland: Ian and Jennifer's story by Pamela M. Kelley (Author)
Reverting back to the time frame from books 1 and 2, broken hearted romance writer Jennifer Graham heads to Dublin for a research trip and finds romance with the son of her best friend's aunt, Ian.
I am just not sure of the timeline and Isabella's story.

Full of detail and food

This is a story about the day to day life of a romance writer that goes to Ireland for research and fun. You get a lot of detail about what she does each day and descriptions of each meal, and there are a lot of meals. This is a fairly clean story with little chemistry but warm and cozy characters. I liked both H & H, but could have done without the minutiae the author used to extend the story. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either. Ok read.

I don't know exactly why I enjoyed this as much as I did. But I did. I liked her. She wasn't whiny. She wasn't pushy. She wasn't neurotic. I liked him. He was too involved with work and protecting his heart, but he wasn't a robot. They both allowed room for change. They both allowed room for the inconvenience of timing/circumstances bringing them together.

I liked that she was a budding romance writer. All good stuff, people. Read it.

Loved the trip to Ireland!

Ireland is one country I would love to visit. As I am not a world traveler I live for a trip through story. Ms. Kelley takes us on a wonderful adventure where love and new friends are all around you. Ian and Jen are not finding it easy to get their relationship on track. Both are no stranger to the bad side of relationships . Love is never easy and has to find its time. You will love this book. Enjoy!

I read the whole series now and I do like recurring characters. I have to agree with the reviewer that talked about the lack of Irish food/culture. They are so much steak and pasta with meatballs. And pulled pork? Shouldn’t that have been in Montana? Anyway, I enjoyed the series and am anxiously awaiting the next Nantucket book due out soon. I’ll be in sunny Florida reading that in a week or so. Thanks!

There are sweet romances and there are "this romance makes no sense" sweet romances. There was plenty of repetition of phrasing as well - an editor was much in need.

Also, what a missed opportunity to feature some of those Irish towns that were only named "charming village" with no description as to why they were charming. This book was as generic as could be. It could have been set anywhere with any random people. Lacked emotion and even a minimum character arc.

Great Romance Story

I enjoyed this book I don't read as many romances as I used to. Actually pretty nice to read a clean book. So hard to find
a good book without all the really bad language and all the sex that sometimes is more than I want to read. Also l love to read books with the subject of Ireland or Irish in it. Thanks for an enjoyable read.

Just an okay read!

I can't say I disliked this book but I did not like it also. I could not relate to the main characters. Romance was lukewarm. There was no passion or just I could not feel it. Also being a software engineer myself, I felt the software company premise was not described accurately!

Cute but simplistic

Who goes to Ireland and only stays near Dublin for 2 months?? What about the Cliffs? London? Scotland? Europe? Easy read, not much happens. Not sure I understand how or why they fell in love-- because they spent so much time together? And she got very snippy about his work a bit too much. Cute..

Sweet

This was a very sweet story. Everything I would expect in a very sweet novel was there. I think it wrapped up a little too quickly- loose ends maybe include the book idea Chatsworth dropped off the storyline. I wish that this story had happened to my Goddaughter - alas she had her heart broken.

Good Series

I liked this series well enough to finish, but only as a one time reading. I'm just not invested in the characters or their stories, even though the characters are likeable. I would be willing try some of the authors work to see if it was just this series I wasn't very fond of.

I really wanted to like this book, but I couldn't. I'm unsure why, it had all the main ingredients that I like in a romance story, but it just felt flat. The characters lacked any real depth to them and were a bit one dimensional, the story itself felt a bit stilted and dint really 'flow'. It just didn't work for me. 2 1/2 stars

Good book

This was an easy read. The story was about a female.romantic novelist who goes to Ireland. The plot was simple and straightforward. However I encountered some technical issues with downloading the book had pages missing for no known reason. Amazon wasn't much help fixing the problem
