Carl Barks

He is best known for his work in Disney comic books, as the writer and artist of the first Donald Duck stories and as the creator of Scrooge McDuck. He worked anonymously until late in his career; fans dubbed him "The Duck Man" and "The Good Duck Artist". In 1987, Barks was one of the three inaugural inductees of the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame.
Barks worked for the Disney Studio and Western Publishing where he created Duckburg and many of its inhabitants, such as Scrooge McDuck (1947), Gladstone Gander (1948), the Beagle Boys (1951), The Junior Woodchucks (1951), Gyro Gearloose (1952), Cornelius Coot (1952), Flintheart Glomgold (1956), John D. Rockerduck (1961) and Magica De Spell (1961).
He has been named by animation historian Leonard Maltin as "the most popular and widely read artist-writer in the world". Will Eisner called him "the Hans Christian Andersen of comic books." Beginning especially in the 1980s, Barks' artistic contributions would be a primary source for animated adaptations such as DuckTales and its 2017 remake.

«Ο σερίφης της μαύρης κοιλάδας» και «Το μυστικό του παλιού κάστρου» είναι δύο από τις πιο σημαντικές ιστορίες του Carl Barks. Ειδικά το δεύτερο έχει φοβερή ατμόσφαιρα και το σχέδιο κάνει εκπληκτική δουλειά προς αυτή την κατεύθυνση, με τις σκιές και την αρχιτεκτονική του χώρου να παίζουν πρωτεύοντα ρόλο.

Αυτός ο τόμος καλύπτει τα τέλη του 1947 και τις αρχές του 1948, και βρισκόμαστε στα πρόθυρα της πλέον δημιουργικής περιόδου του μεγάλου παπιανθρώπου Carl Barks και ήδη οι ιστορίες του έχουν γίνει συναρπαστικές και αυτός ο μοναδικός χαρακτήρας που τις έκανε να ξεχωρίζουν πάντα έχει διαμορφωθεί.
Οι δύο μεγάλες ιστορίες του τόμου (η ομότιτλη "Ο Σερίφης της Μαύρης Κοιλάδας" και "Το Μυστικό του Παλιού Κάστρου") ανήκουν σίγουρα στη λίστα με τις σημαντικές δημιουργίες του Barks.
Το Μυστικό, μάλιστα, είναι η δεύτερη ιστορία όπου εμφανίζεται ο Θείος Σκρουτζ και αρχίζει να διαμορφώνεται ο χαρακτήρας που θα κατακτήσει το Ντισνεϊκό (και όχι μόνο) κόμικ τα επόμενα χρόνια, ενώ και το σκίτσο φαίνεται πιο πλούσιο και πιο λεπτομερές.
Όλες, όμως, οι ιστορίες του τόμου είναι διασκεδαστικές - είναι εμφανές ότι πλέον ο Barks διασκεδάζει με τα παπιά του!

This tome covers the period between the late 1947 and the early 1948; the great Duck Man's most creative period is right around the corner and his stories have already become exciting and those special character traits of a Carl Barks story have formed.
The two big stories of the tome (the title "Sheriff of Bullet Valley" and "The Old Castle's Secret") certainly belong in the long list of Carl Barks' important creations.
It should be noted that The Old Castle's Secret is Uncle Scrooge's second story and the character that was destined to conquer the Disney (and not only) comics.
However, all stories of the tome are fun - it is obvious that Barks has fun telling his duck tales!

Απ'τους καλύτερους τόμους της σειράς. Ειδικά το Μυστικό του παλιού κάστρου είναι ό,τι καλύτερο. Εποχές που ο Μπαρκς είχε γίνει ήδη μάστερ της φάσης.
