She’d been in love with the man since her first day on the job. And that love had grown deeper the longer she worked for him. But the man was obsessed with another woman, the lovely Delilah Jamison, singer extraordinaire, international jet setter. Rebecca was just the assistant. The assistant with a secret. A secret love for her boss and a secret music passion that her boss could never know about. From the moment he’d spotted her behind the receptionist’s desk, Marcus Benton had thought she was the sexiest, cutest and most interesting woman he’d ever met. He couldn’t get her out of his mind and, as she worked her way up in his company, he wanted her more and more. Working alongside her, he was determined to get to know the adorable Becca who buttoned her shirts up and wore prim clothes. He was dying to know what was beneath those conservative cardigans – and he wanted to know what else she was hiding behind those beautiful, amber eyes. When Rebecca’s secret comes out, could she trust Marcus with her secret? Could she handle the repercussions?

One of my top three favorite EL till date! Rebecca has been in love with her boss Marcus, but she thinks he's having the hots for the pop star he manages- Lila. Marcus on the other hand reciprocates her feelings and adores Rebecca. When a chance encounter exposes their feelings, they embark in a sweet/ erotic journey of love and lust. Marcus will be my favorite EL hero. He was so sweet and so utterly devoted to Rebecca. He loved her and did not let her run or pull away. He also wasn't overpowering and yet an alpha. Rebecca on the other hand annoyed me with her insecurities and doubts. She didn't trust him despite repeated proofs and that's one reason this isn't a five star. Can't wait to read about Lila and Jake. Safe?? though he has been with women before, it's not mentioned if he's slept with more since meeting Rebecca
I returned and refunded this book. I’ve read quite a few books from this author. Some good. Some meh. But this one took the cake for pissing me off.
The zero who is supposedly yearning and wanting the heroine for years doesn’t let her presence in his life stop him from screwing other women, sliming from one female to another. Apparently the heroine isn’t that different and his feelings for her arent powerful enough to stop him from kissing other women and sticking his overused dixk into them. “You’ve dated so many women since I’ve known you! How was I supposed to know that I’m any different from the others?”
That’s a great question. One that’s never answered. His feelings for the heroine would’ve been believable if he had been UNABLE to stick his dixk into skanks, but he did, so where is his love and obsession and devotion to the heroine? Nowhere. It’s completely absent. I don’t want to read about a hero who can still screw other women after meeting the heroine. If SHE (the heroine) isn’t ALL and ONLY what he wants, then his love is pathetic and weak and worthless.
So besides a zero who can’t be faithful to his soulmate, and still needs to get off in skank females, there was the fact he treats her like any other skank, using condoms to keep a protective barrier between himself and her, placing not just the physical barrier between them but one that is psychological, symbolic and emotional, as well. She’s just another vagina he has to put a barrier between himself and her. Every sex scene in the book was ruined from the lack of becoming truly one and intimate.
Then there was the horrible abrupt ending with no satisfying conclusion to one of the main plot points, namely, what his big plan is to launch her singing AND protect her privacy. It’s not answered. Just drops off with no resolution whatsoever. And no epilogue. GTFOH. So this pile of steaming pig excrement is getting returned for a refund. It’s not worth a penny.
The ONLY positive thing I can say about this book was the heroine. She was wonderful. Strong and vulnerable, sweet and sassy. And she had self-respect and virtue, saving HERSELF for the man she loved, even if he was an unworthy scumbag.
I'm definitely interested in reading books 2&3 since that's who the series is really about. This book was about the side characters Marcus and Rebecca and that's exactly what it felt like. Side characters; an afterthought.
Marcus is the Jamison's music producer. He's a big shot millionaire. Rebecca is his assistant. They have loved each other for a few years now and finally decide to go for it.
I liked it but during the whole read I kept waiting for the drop, you know the drama, the climax that sucks you in. It never comes. It's just a short, quick, cute story that should have been more of a book 3 not book 1. I'm also hoping as the series goes on we get to finish Marcus and Becca's story. What is Marcus going to do with Becca's songs? Do they get married? Have Kids? Can they last through the limelight?
Anyway since the series is about the Jamison sisters I really want to read the next books.
A very quick read. I liked both Marcus and Becca. They were cute together, and sometimes funny. They seemed to really like each other. The basic story was Marcus and Becca following through on their attraction with a subplot regarding Becca's secret. Not much attention given to the subplot which could have been really interesting.
This book would have been more interesting to me if Marcus and Becca had continued to interact with other people after they got together. Also, if the book hadn't ended so suddenly. There were things I felt were left unresolved, such as the confrontation when Marcus and Becca found out each others secret. There was never a real conversation although Marcus had time to come up with a plan that was never revealed.
The end of the book makes you feel like it was a rush to the finish. Especially once one of the people from the beginning of the book pops up out of the blue. What was the point? It would have been nice to have some type of epilogue. This was not a bad book. It was not a cliffhanger. It left me feeling as though it was not completed. It left me wanting more. I'm more inclined to give this book 2.5 stars.
Marcus hovered over Becca in an annoying, unromantic kinda way. It's meant to be romantic that he makes her change her mind/plans for her to be with him, but really its irritating. It's frustrating when he makes her dress sexy for him and makes her spend time with him and she doesn't really want to be there. I'd have preferred if he'd done something for her to really want to be with him instead of him simply getting his way. And it's also meant to be romantic that he knows all her likes/dislikes, but really it's the opposite--its like there's no more thrill for him to discover. True there's the twist in the end, but its dramatic irony so its not that intense.
this would have been a good book, but major emphasis was given on sex rather than story development. the end was seriously annoying...he promised to do something for her....then how they managed, wasnt even revealed (which was a major concern in the plot line) dont get me started on the time line!
This is a very good book, according to the author, this is a bonus book because the H was a character in the actual series. The h is the private assistant to the H. They have been secretly in love with each other for years but were afraid to show their love. They were able to find their way to each other. Good ending.
I love all of Elizabeth Lennox's life stories. They feel so real yet so fantastical at the same time. I constantly wish that I was the heroine in her stories because her stories are so romantic and fun and hot! My only complaint about this book was the lack of an epilogue telling us what happens with Rebecca's music. I wonder if we'll find out in one of the next books in the series? Anyway, I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys easy-to-read contemporary romance books with guaranteed HEA's.
I loved everything about this book. Enjoying it so much I haven't left the couch. Marcus is everything you could want in a hero. Tough, tender and knows what he wants. Becca is his perfect compliment. They started as friends and took that bond and made it something more. ❤️
Great start for the new series by Elizabeth Lennox. This first book sets up the second book involving singer Lilah Jamison's need to escape her busy life and recuperate from exhaustion. This first book is about Lilahs manager and his PA.
I really enjoyed reading this book this is the first book I have read from this author. It was well written and the Characters were well developed. Looking gorward to the second in this series.
