Boy Meets Wolf

Rate this book
Matthew’s never had a boyfriend, let alone had sex before. So when he winds up being rescued from a wolf attack in White Mountain by a hunky woodsman called Alric, he can’t believe his luck.

That is, until Alric tells Matthew that he’s the head of a pack of wolf shifters, and that he and Matthew are ‘soul-bound’—an alpha and omega pair. Matthew just wanted a normal college life, but now that he’s stumbled into the complicated world of the wolves of White Mountain, there’s no going back.

Alric is beautiful and caring, but he’s not telling Matthew everything. Matthew doesn’t understand the conflict going on between the wolf packs, especially not his significance within it. When wolves follow him back onto campus and harm not only him but also his friends, he knows he has to face up to his fears and go to White Mountain.

With the other packs hot on their trail, will Matthew and Alric be able to save not only their future, but the entire forest?

This book contains plenty of steamy MM scenes, as well as Mpreg, and is not suitable for readers under 18 years. It has an HEA, does not end in a cliffhanger, and is roughly 55000 words long.

Ariel Eaves has been writing MM romance for as long as she can remember. She loves mixing genres, dropping paranormal elements into scifi and fantasy settings. Above all, she wants to create heros who are strong but flawed.

She'd love a werewolf or dragon shifter of her own to come and sweep her off her feet, but maybe that's too ambitious! For now, getting lost in her written worlds will have to do. She hopes you'll join her.

This was so full of wrongness I couldn't finish it. Here are some of the things that bugged me (in no particular order):
1) If you have a cabin that you don't normally live in and has no power how can you make pancakes with *butter* (refrigeration how?).
2) If you are wolves that live like cavemen in the forest with no outside contact with humans, how do you have knockout drugs?
3) How do you live near hiking trails, in the forest, knowing rangers, but have never seen or heard of a gun (hunters?)?
4) If there was a violent break in where someone was attacked severely enough to go to the hospital, wouldn't the police be called rather than just campus security and wouldn't you have to give a statement right away?
5) How does a werewolf who's been living in the forest manage to enroll in college? Transcript? Werewolf scholarships?
6) One character has wounds that send him to the hospital and on one page an eye witness says the wounds are "pretty serious" then on the next page the same character says that they are "not that bad".
It was like the death of a thousand cuts, so many things piled up that didn't make sense. On top of all that Alric, alpha of the pack, was no alpha at all. Sonia, his female beta, was much more take charge and sensible!
I was hanging in there because there is a sort of mystery and the plot is built on suspense but, finally, I just decided to give it up. Unfortunately I see that this can't be written off as a first book. I don't see myself picking up any of the author's other works in the future.

I really enjoyed reading this book. There was the occasional Britishism that threw me out of the story since 99.8% of the book was written in American English, and is set in the US (things like dropping articles and word order). I also wondered a bit on the big deal that was made about wolves not being able to sustain themselves on human food; can't they just eat a lot of meat and still live in human society? I mean humans eat deer and rabbit too, so...

But despite that, I found this book to be a very satisfying journey and not what I was expecting, in the best way.

3.5 stars (I rounded up). I read this through KU. The editing in this book was amongst the better end of the spectrum so that goes far with me. However, the first 50% of the book was like WTF? The primary issue I have with this story is that the main Alpha (hereafter "MA") isn't written like an Alpha.

*****MINOR SPOILERS*****

It is important to recognize that this was primarily recommended as a romance book. The MAs actions come across as cowardly and in contravention to the established ideas of an "Alpha." Breaking the mold is great, but in this case it resulted in establishing a fairly epic were-drama that felt so major that it dwarfed the romance to the extent that I couldn't stop asking myself why this supposed Alpha was mooning over a sort-of mate instead of focusing on saving his pack. Honestly, it might not be such a problem if it wasn't billed as a romance.

I had hoped the second half would make up for the first, but again I was disappointed. The bad guy, Beo, was just weird; his pack's culture was different but not really explored by the author. Beo used the word "gauche" at one point which seems inconsistent with an isolated culture (or a bad guy). Matthew gave up his education aspirations with no explanation and his friends moved away. Greater interaction with humans was an expressed desire that never materialized. And we still don't know if Matthew's daughter (or future children) manifested any special abilities (since he is special).

In sum, the author had some creative ideas but for me, as a reader, those ideas seemed rather half-baked. With a little more time devoted to things here and there, the story would have been much better. Also, the MA needed a personality transplant; being different is okay, but having the MA neutered is just frustrating to read.

Wonderful story

A wonderful story. The characters are well developed and scripted. An interesting take for this genre. It should receive five stars but it does need grammatical review.

“You don’t have to follow the rules of your world, or the rules of mine… choose your own path.”
I really enjoyed this mpreg, it had a great balance of romance and tension as Alric, an alpha, fought the escalating threat from an encroaching pack that kept him separated from his newly found omega, Matthew. Freshly bonded and with no understanding of what it means to be an omega, I thought Matthew took the news that shifters exist remarkably well, barely blinking when he found out that he could communicate with Alric in their dreams but it would be too dangerous to meet his werewolf lover face to face. I found myself snickering about the huge contrast between the ongoing social drama the college students face while the pack fights for its survival, and was more than a little repelled by the unbalanced alpha, Beo, who fully intended to claim Matthew as his own.

2.5 stars, rounded up. This is a m/m romance with mpreg, and I found that this was overall an enjoyable story, if you are able to overlook a lot of plot holes and just go with it.

That was my biggest problem with this story, there were too many things that were not explained, that were not possible (I know, werewolf mpreg romance and I'm still complaining that things aren't possible. You know what I mean), and just didn't work. Or things happened that we were never really told why. And I kept wondering what happened to the other wolf in Alric's pack that was pregnant.

I liked the characters, and most of all, I did enjoy the romance and chemistry between Alric and Matthew, that is what made me get through the story.

I received this book free for my review, i read it right away but the book was not up yet for review. So here it is. Loved the story. A better look at the savage side of being a wolf shifter, looking at their wolf side. Poor Matt never even had a boyfriend, then by chance he he rescued by a wolf shifter named Alric. Its true mates immediately, but Matt just wants his college life and Alric has problems of his own with other wolf pacts taking over his territory and endangering his pact mates. The ups and downs and the danger around every corner, Matt needs Alric, he's pregnant. Matt did not even realize it was possible, now not only is he in danger... he is about to be a dad. Can he find Alric? Can they ever be together and safe? Love the HEA

MM shifter, male pregnancy story. Matthew is a human Omega and he discovers this when he meets his Alpha, Alric, a wolf shifter. Alric's wolf pack does not have much contact with the human world and are experiencing traumatic upheavals. Alric wants to be with Matthew but all their lives are in danger. Matthew also knows nothing of shifters and male Omega pregnancies. Matthew is young, discovering himself and Alric must step up as the leader of his pack.

I really enjoyed this one.. Some parts did confuse me because things like not knowing guns when you know of park rangers.. or how do you know pancakes but not the human world... but overall.. the concept and characters were interesting and very fun to read.. I loved the yummyness of it all and loved the preg parts. I really enjoyed most of this.. and I'm glad I got to review it

I enjoyed this story. I really enjoyed Alric, its rare that you have a alpha who doubts himself as much as Alric did. I loved Matthew and how he was confused about how he was feeling. The drama was good, Matthew's friends were wonderful and Beo had just the right amount of crazy. Let's not forget Dawn, she was so adorable. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
