A dog and young hunter become inseparable friends. Together they explore beautiful country in search of the glorious dancers in the sky. Their dream of running free is threatened and becomes a search for the last stretches of surviving wilderness in which to continue a legacy. With each new adventure, their friendship grows, carries them past fears, and leads them to wonders beyond imagination.
The ending made me cry so hard. Tisha was the most amazing dog to have saved her family many times, gone on the craziest adventures, survived things that should have killed her, and shown what true love and loyalty means. I almost think she was too good for Max, her owner, because he hesitated going to the vet when she broke her leg. I wouldn't hesitate even if I had to spend all of my money. She did so much for Max and the family, like only dogs could. My favorite part was when she saved little Anya from the neighbor's very mean kid. I also really enjoyed the story about how Max had to escape from the UFOs, although that was with the "old Tisha."
A sweet, gently humorous story about a puppy and a boy growing up together. All they care about are birds and freedom, and their love of adventure brings them to wild country still untainted by civilization. It is indeed bittersweet because their bliss is met with the growing encroachment of a not-so-nice society that foreshadows something dark. A great collection of memories that reminds how short and sweet life can be.
