A short and enjoyable old collection of Churchill wit and wisdom, prefaced by a brief encomium on Churchill by his longtime colleague during war and peace, Dwight Eisenhower. 3.5, really, for the fun.

In the long history of political figures, no one had more adventures and impact on the world as well as more words penned about and by himself and the world than Winston Churchill. Unlike so many of the political war hawks, Churchill was a member of the military and was in harm’s way in India, Sudan and Southern Africa. It is arguably the case that he was the only British leader in the years of the Second World War that could have led the British to their ultimate victory. Churchill was the author of many books and in 1953 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature.
An inspiring and brilliant orator with a sarcastic wit that was difficult to equal, Churchill uttered many profound things as well as some that were rather quaint then and in retrospect. He was a product of the British imperial mentality, so much of his thought was based on an inherent superiority of the English-speaking people.
This book contains many of his most famous statements used to warn and then rally his nation when it faced the existential menace of fascist Germany. He also was a leading voice in warning about the growing power of the Soviet Union as it was swallowing up the nations of Eastern Europe.
This book is but a primer of the literary and political life of Winston Churchill, a man who knew how to write and deliver lines of power and influence.

📖Never Give In🖋Winston Churchill
This is a book of aphorisms and anecdotes by Winston Churchill. I will not review the book, I will just write you some of my favorite quotes.
📍I am going to make a long speech because I have not had the time to prepare a short one.
📍Courage is right esteemed the first of human qualities, because it is the quality that guarantees all others.
📍To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.
📍Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfils the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things.
📍Continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential.
📍You have enemies? Good. That means you have stood up for something, sometime in your life.
📍Kites rise highest against the wind, not with it.
📍It is better to do the wrong thing than to do nothing.
📍Success is to going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm.
📍It is wonderful how well men can keep secrets they have not been told.

First encountered this on a shelf of antique books at a bed and breakfast in western NY. Later bought for a friend, and I read it through before sharing the gift. So much wisdom in this short read! What a remarkable man, the likes of which we haven’t seen in politics since. If only we could have the privilege of witnessing such oration, wisdom, moral character, and wit in today’s modern world!

It was good primer in the mind of Winston Churchill for such a small book. It definitely sparks desire for further reading about him.
