Seasons of Love #4

Winter Heart

Seasons of Book Four

For over ten years, Wyatt Dolan defined himself as the lover of Howard Wallace. Howard made sure Wyatt’s self-worth depended on that role. So when Howard dumps him, he is lost at sea in a storm without a rudder. If it wasn’t for his supportive friends, he doesn’t know what he’d do. Finally, after a series of disasters, he escapes to Camp Sanctuary—a sacred place to him—where he can be alone, try to put his past behind him, and find a new direction for his life.

Kevin Owens is a lonely man. He is very intelligent—several apps he created have gone on to make him a comfortable living—but he is also quite shy and is uncomfortable making conversation. The death of his dear friend and former lover after a long illness leaves him grieving, confused, and adrift. Then a dream guides him to Camp Sanctuary, only to find that the one cabin with a wood-burning stove has already been reserved. And worse, by a man he’s had a secret crush on for years—Wyatt Dolan.

When a snowstorm knocks out power at the Camp, Wyatt and Kevin must share the same cabin to stay warm, and very soon, magickal things begin to happen.

B.G. Thomas lives in Kansas City with his husband for nearly fifteen years and was legally married in 2014. Ehey have a fabulous little dog, Sarah Jane. He sees his wonderful daughter just often enough to miss her when she isn't there! He has a romantic soul and is extraordinarily lucky to have many friends.

He loves science fiction & fantasy, horror, romance and more, has gone to SF&F conventions his entire adult life, and been lucky enough to meet many of his favorite writers. He is a “Star Trek” and Joss Whedon fan from way back!

He has written all his life, it is where he finds his joy. In the 90’s, he wrote for gay magazines, but stopped because they wanted him to cut out story and romance, and write only sex.

Then through a few friends, he discovered the growing market of M/M Romance and was thrilled beyond words. FINALLY, a way to write the stories he always wanted to write. Adventure, romantic comedy, science fiction, and more, but with gay characters. And he wouldn't have to fade to black! People wanted to read the erotic as well. Plot and sex! HURRAY!

B.G. Thomas very much believes in The Law of Attraction and that "thoughts become things." A lot of things all started happening at once. He heard the words, "Leap, and the net will appear," and something re-kindled inside. He sent out a story and was thrilled when it was almost immediately accepted.

He believes that we are divine expressions of the Universe, each and everyone. "It is never too late!,” he states. “Pursue your dreams! They will come true!"

Back in 2014 at GRL in Chicago, when Ben and I first met and talked about the first two books I'd already read, and my thoughts about books three and four, I already knew that Wyatt's book would in parts break my heart and in other parts make me super happy.

You see, I hated Howard, Wyatt's "husband" of ten years, from the start. I hated him when I got the first glimpse of him in Summer Lover, when he treats Wyatt worse than the dirt on his feet, and I hated him even more when he's caught cheating and nearly raping Blue, that sweet young boy who totally needs his own book.

I hated Howard all the way through Autumn Changes, and I raged and ranted when he dumps Wyatt so callously halfway through after being caught mid-fuck.

Wyatt deserved so much better than Howard. I had shared my thoughts with Ben on how Howard must have been a different man when they first met, how he must have been someone Wyatt could have looked up to, and how down and out Wyatt must have been to have fallen for the lies, to stay with him for so long.

I saw clearly how this despicable man had over time browbeaten Wyatt into believing himself less than he actually is, and how this jerk had convinced Wyatt that he'd be nothing without him. That people only liked him because he was with Howard.

Lies, all lies. I once knew a man like that. I was married to a man like that. And I divorced a man like that. I know exactly what Wyatt felt like.

Wyatt is my favorite of the Fab Four. He's the heart of the group, he's the glue that binds them, that keeps them together, bad jokes and all. He's inherently kind, albeit a bit naive at times, but he's deeply spiritual too, and he believes in nature and the gods.

When we meet Wyatt again in this final book to round out the series, he's sad, lonely and unsure how to move forward.

It's porch night, and he's preparing a feast to celebrate Asher and Peni's return from Samoa where Peni got his pe'a done, and the Fab Four, plus three significant others, descend on Wyatt's house (Sloan's house, where Wyatt lives for now) to eat, drink and be merry.

The Winter Solstice is shortly thereafter, and Wyatt asks his friends, his true friends, who love him no matter what (as he's finally come to realize), to celebrate Yule with him, and to perform the ritual of that night.

Many, many miles away, in New York City, another man sits with his former lover and still-friend who's dying of complications from AIDS, and their female friend, to also celebrate that same night.

Magick happens during the rituals being performed, and both Wyatt and this other man catch a glimpse of what might be.

Then Wyatt gets a call from his mother - his father, a hateful man, had a stroke and asks to see him. Wyatt, being the dutiful son to the man who threw him out of the house at barely eighteen for being pagan and gay, drives the many miles to his hometown to visit. It does not go well, as expected.

On his way home, the land calls to Wyatt, as he passes by the location of the Heartland Men's Festival, and he decides to spend a few days in one of the cabins to center himself and find his spirit again.

The man in New York City, upon his friend's death, decides the same.

I won't tell you, other than that his name is Kevin, who the man in NYC is. You've met him in a previous book. Wyatt knows him, and Kevin knows Wyatt.

I also won't tell you what happens next, or whether Howard gets what's coming to him, but I will urge you to read this book. It's not a standalone. To get the full impact, to really know the Fab Four, you have to read the series, starting with Spring Affair.

B.G. (Ben) Thomas created four stories of lasting friendship, of finding the one you're meant to be with, of renewal, of love, of coming into your own.

Each book spans a season. Pay good attention during the Yule Ritual when you read about the story that Wyatt tells about the Holly King and the Oak King, and how the Winter Solstice is the turning point, when one King loses and one King wins, when the days get longer and the darkness recedes. It's a parallel to what Wyatt goes through in this book - how he emerges from the darkness to see the light, to find his way, to forge his own path. How he begins to believe in himself again, how he realizes the lies Howard told for so many years.

And Kevin too finds new meaning to his life, gets a chance to love again, and find the one meant for him.

The author draws such complex and fully formed characters, and they became part of me. Even though the romance is slow burn and there is but little steam, it shines ever so brightly because of how well the characters are done, how completely we get to know them inside and out. Ben has a knack for writing the Grand Romance, where emotions rank first and foremost, and you cannot help but be swept away by the depth of feelings inside. I cried, I smiled, I feared, and I rejoiced at their very happily ever after.

Kevin turns out to be exactly what Wyatt needs and deserves. And Wyatt too is perfect for Kevin.

A fitting end for this gorgeous series, I highly recommend you read them all.

When this post goes live on the last day of GRL 2016, you can betcha that I'll have hugged Ben a few times, and probably gushed to him about this fabulous book. I hope you'll love it as much as I do.

I loved this story. Wyatt is an endearing character, so you find yourself rooting for him every step of the way. He has his flaws and weaknesses like everyone, but his essential hopefulness always shines through. Winter Heart does well as a standalone, but the experience is richer if you start with Spring Affair and read the series through. That lets you get to know Wyatt through his friends' eyes first, so when you get inside his head you can revisit the essential moments and characteristics with a new level of appreciation. In addition to the sweet story promised by the cover (and I love the covers to the Seasons of Love series so much I bought them all in print), B.G. Thomas gives his characters interesting things to discuss about religion, love and forgiveness. Kevin in particular gets to say such wonderful things about how to be a true lover that I marked the passages. I highly recommend this book.

Wow! All I can say is that B.G. Thomas absolutely knocked this one out the park, yet again.

I've been waiting for Wyatt's story since book 1 and this didn't disappoint. With all the Fabulous Four having been single for so many years, at one point or another, and now in relationships, it's amazing to see how they all gather round to help Wyatt, as his relationship with Howard crumbles. Not just helping him with the general issues, but also by dealing with the holiday seasons and making sure his emotional needs are met.

Quite honestly, I cried so many, many, many times! I mean, the testing, the ritual and so many more things – the snow storm! The hospital! – had me bubbling like a baby. And Howard really is the puki'o of the entire series!

And, Oh. My. God! Hodor! Hodor!

I loved all the new characters, as well as the old ones that I already love with my whole heart. Geoff was incredible! Gods, I loved him. I wish we could see more of him. In fact, can we go back to Spring, have a whole other Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter book series with Geoff, Blue, Nikko and Logan...or, Hell, anyone! I would be happy if this series never ended.

Oh, Cauley! He broke my heart so many times, despite being a minor character and hardly in the story at all. Howard made me so mad that I was clenching my teeth, grumbling and sobbing for Wyatt over everything he'd ever done and confessed to. He was such a skeasy bastard and it drove me up the wall. But I am soooo happy that Wyatt got his closure in the end. He might have used and taken advantage of the innocence Wyatt showed in those early days, but the one good thing he ever did was introduce Wyatt to the Men's Festival.

The entire medical issue is totally understandable; I had a horrible experience of 2 years worth of pain and a horrendous surgery for my gall bladder, so I winced through every minute of the hospital scenes.

The fact that that majority of Wyatt's story is true (as mentioned in the Author's Note at the end) was utterly heartbreaking, but only spoke of just why it was so touching and moving to read. The realism wasn't just in my imagination, which only made the whole thing more incredible.

Favourite Quote

““Well you did tell a customer to kiss your ass,” Sloan said.
“My rosy red ass.” Wyatt crossed his arms. “Because she called me a fag! And I told her that I was more man than she was ever going to have and more woman than she would ever be.””

“I think it would make my happy if I came back as a snowflake and I could fall on your face.”

“Wyatt smiled.
Somehow, he was feeling hope.
Somehow he was feeling he just might be ready to fly.”

Series Review

Often, when I come across a review in this genre, the books are all the same. Not in a bad way, but in a thematic way. By the time you get to book two and then every successive one, you discover that somehow, all of the main characters in all the books know each other. Then, within the plot, you discover that there is a theme within the series – each book has the same location, the same drama issue (usually a small crime, homosexuality or a disastrous love life) that weaves the books together.

This series – Seasons of Love – has none of that!

Not only is each book wholly original in concept and execution, but each of the characters are far from the carbon copy same-person-different-name that you often find. The characters all begin book 1 knowing each other as only a group of best friends can; intimately and with a deep affection.

For me, that was the real jewel of the series. Not only did sex take a back seat to the plot – which was perfect! – but the friendship between Sloan, Scott, Asher and Wyatt is the real treasure. The love these men have for each other, the friendship they share, the support system they have become for each other is really something quite magical. No matter whether there were romances or how powerful they were as stories and journeys of self-discovery, it really was the strong bond between the men and their friendship that moved me the most.

With diverse characters who are all equally strange, brilliant and beautiful in their own ways; a change of location that suits each character and their individual story; the struggles that they all face, there is really only one commonality. All the men are facing a personal crisis that includes self doubt and a religious journey that is very much individual and important to their overall mental health.

The first book will hook you. The second will make you fall in love. The third will make you think and question everything. The fourth will give you tingles.

No matter what, you will never regret starting this series.

For ten years Wyatt was the only one amongst his intimate group of friends ( the fabulous four) who was in a relationship. Wyatt's world fell apart 2 months ago, when his lover Howard, dumped him and kicked him out of the house they made a home. Heartbroken and alone, Wyatt moved into an empty house, (fab-four member Sloan, inherited from his mother) to lick his wounds and rebuild his life.

Like sands through the hourglass...
The minute I read this Days of Our Lives reference, Wyatt piqued my interest. I knew right away that this was a character that I wanted to get to know and boy did Wyatt, deliver. :)

Check your instant gratification at the door

Wyatt is what I call a 360 character. You know everything you never thought you'd care about. Why is Thomas imparting all this "unnecessary /filler" information about Wyatt. Why am I being bogged down with all this? Let's get to the plot! Let's get to know Kevin! I want Wyatt on that road to HEA so that I can sigh get misty eyed and move on to the next book. Thomas' approach proved to be the wise and accurate choice. If he did what I expected, Wyatt, would have been just another character from another book that I would vaguely remember. The information I thought "filler" was in fact, writing gold. I know Wyatt. Knowing Wyatt so intimately, being that deeply entrenched in his psyche is not something I've experienced with a vast majority of mm characters. The "filler" made me care about Wyatt's friends, made it easy to understand the bonds of friendship these men share that to some degree transcends the relationships shared between their respective blood and kin.

I know I didn't go in depth about the plot. I know I didn't discuss the romance. I did this on purpose. The blurb summarizes the book perfectly. I also think this is a journey you should experience solely through Wyatt's lens. The treasure in this story is Wyatt. I got an unfiltered look into his heart and what I saw is unforgettably beautiful.

“Winter Heart” by B.G Thomas is the forth book in the “Seasons of Love” series. This story boasts a very sweet and powerful romance along with addressing some serious issues like : abuse, acceptance of homosexuality and religion. I loved the author’s way of narration. It is detailed and very effective in touching any reader’s heart.

Wyatt Dolan
is a very sweet and charming character who had suffered a lot before coming to a place where he can start to accept his own self-worth. His ex was a douche of platinum grade, who verbally abused him and chipped away his confidence completely. Wyatt’s first exposure to the gay world was through Howard, his ex who brain washed him in thinking that “monogamy is for straight people” because he himself wanted to sleep around and be a slut. Now when Wyatt is free of Howard, he can truly realize that he deserves to be loved (like the “Forever” kind) and cherished for who he really is. His best friends (The Fab-ulous Four!!) have all found their significant others and Wyatt though surrounded by supportive and loving friends, feels lonely and craves for a “Forever Love” of his own.

Kevin Owens is a self-made man who has nursed a crush for Wyatt for many years. They are acquaintances who meet once a year and for several years during the event, he had watched Wyatt from afar and pined for “the sweet little bear”. He is a man of few words but with the most kindest and compassionate heart. After burying his ex-lover, Kevin finds himself craving solitude. His impromptu vacation soon turns life changing when his crush for Wyatt turns to love after spending few snowed-in days together in a small cabin. Kevin is a gentle giant who was the best man to provide the fairytale love Wyatt deserved so badly. He helps Wyatt with his insecurities and in gaining confidence and providing support in every way he could.

The flow of the story is very meaningful and compelling. Wyatt’s journey from an unaccepting family to finally finding happiness is beautiful but also heart-breaking and sad at times. In the first half we get to see the aftermath of Wyatt’s harmful relationship to Howard. Also balancing that pain, we see the bond that he has with his best friends and how supportive they are of him and his beliefs. His relationship with his family is another big part of the story. I loved how the author brings that part to its conclusion. It made me teary-eyed.

The MCs don’t meet until almost 52% of the story but that part was used to give a complete inner view within the hearts of the MCs, their past, life, friends, dreams and beliefs. It would put off many readers because of the delay but I would advise them to stick with the story to experience the true brilliance of the story-telling.

I don’t want to delve into the religious believes that are described in this book in detail but I would like to just say in the author’s words:

“I think God is Love. I think that is all that God is. I don’t think ‘It’ hates or gets jealous or punishes and floods the Earth or sends anyone to hell. I don’t even believe in hell because how could a God that the Bible said is unconditional love—have any conditions?”

“God is love, that’s all God is.”

There is a higher power that lives within all things living and provides us with strength and love and which do not judge or pass punishment and that’s exactly what i found in this book. The Yule celebration in the story seriously gave me chills and I can guarantee you will feel the subtle yet decisive power of the gods through the pages too. And that epilogue will make anyone smile and whoop with joy.

You need to read this beautiful and amazing romance and experience Wyatt’s touching journey in search of true love for yourself. Wyatt is going to charm you with his innocence and naivety, make you cry and also make you fall in love wholeheartedly!!!

Happy Reading!!!

Guys, this book dragged on forever and was completely boring. Apart from a few awkward wording here and there the book was pretty well written, so it was a bummer that this was one of the most boring romance books I’ve read in a long time. We’re supposed to be intrigued and rooting for these people to get together. This would have been a one star book if the writing and grammar weren't as good as they are.

The two halves of the book are like reading two completely different stories. The first half of the book was complete torture because it was a full-on pity party for Wyatt. Kevin has a pretty bad situation going on too, but the focus is on poor Wyatt. I don’t know why the author chose to use half the book to show how bad off they are, when they could have focused on developing their relationship.

Also it had random pagan rituals fully written out for a huge part of the book. This doesn’t inherently bother me, but when I am reading a book I like things to progress the plot and not just be there for the sake of proving someone is a pagan or something. It got really really boring, and by the time these two met I didn’t really care about their relationship because both men bored me to death.

The second half of the book has them finally meeting and getting together, but at that point I was rooting against them because of how childish and immature their approach to the relationships was. The way that Thomas set everything up made it really far-fetched. I think he was trying to tie fate and paganism together to show how they were fated, but it was all very passive. A lot of stuff seems to happen to them and not because of them, if that makes any sense. It made Wyatt and Kevin seem like high schoolers instead of grown men.

Fair warning: this book has paganism and a lot references to the bear community (gay bears not animal bears). These are two communities I have no real knowledge of or connection to so I cannot tell you how accurate their portrayal was, but they were a huge part of the story so if their portrayal is inaccurate you’re kind of stuck with it for the whole book. Something to look into or keep in mind if you are planning on reading this.

"Winter Heart" is the fourth and final book in the Seasons of Love series by B.G. Thomas. The series focuses on a group of four friends, dubbed The Fabulous Four, who long to find love. At the beginning of the series, the beamingly positive jokester of the group, Wyatt, is the only one with a lover, Howard. But, as the series progresses, it's clear to the rest of the group how controlling and callous Howard is to the man he supposedly loves. By the time "Winter" arrives, Wyatt and Howard have broken up while the rest of the group have found their loves. While happy for them, Wyatt longs to have that feeling again but must first let go of the past to move on.

Kevin Owens, a quiet, gentle giant of a man who lives in New York, is grieving over his lost relationship with his lover. Also needing to move on, Kevin finds comfort in a Kansas City retreat that he attends every year. Except this time, he goes during the winter when the camp has closed and he uses the solitude to meditate over his life. It just so happens that Wyatt had the same thoughts and the two end up meeting at camp at the same time, knowing each other only briefly from previous camp years. This starts a brand-new relationship for both of them.

This is the most engaging, heartbreaking and uplifting story out of the whole series and is one of the best stories written by B.G. Thomas. What makes the story so amazing is that a lot of it was lifted from the author's own life, creating characters that are so true-to-life. The situations that Wyatt goes through to reach his "happily ever after" are astonishing and show how much strength and optimism he has.

Wyatt was my favorite character from the beginning of the series and, at long last, his story is told and it was well worth the wait. B.G. Thomas poured his heart out in this story and it shows without a doubt. Highly recommended, BUT read the entire series to see how each of these men in the Fabulous Four grow and develop.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4.5 stars

The final season in B.G. Thomas’ Seasons of Love series is here. Winter Heart is Wyatt’s story and if this little bear of a man has not already captured your heart by his terrible joke telling or his propensity to always see the best in people, then his heartache and rediscovery of love will definitely do so. While Wyatt has been so very happy to see each of his friends of the “fabulous four” find their true love, when his own lover rips his heart out and throws him away, he is worried that perhaps in order for Sloan, Asher, and Scott to remain happily in love he must now be alone—a sort of cosmic balancing act if you will where all his friends enjoy their new found partners and he must suffer loneliness in order for them to remain happy. If you have read the other novels in this series, then you know that Wyatt has always been this way—slightly naïve, easily swayed into thinking things that really aren’t exactly true, and often ending up so terribly unhappy as a result. But this man is nothing if not optimistic—unfortunately that optimism hides a deep well of self-doubt and pain—planted their by a hating parent, a loathsome, belittling ex, and Wyatt’s own tendency to accept less than he deserves.

Wow! I have waited a long time for this book. Wyatt is my favourite member of the Fabulous Four and his story has been a long time coming. I defy any reader not to fall in love with Wyatt. He has a true generosity of spirit and deserves all the good things that come his way in this story. My heart is happy that Wyatt finally got to fall in love and be loved in return by such a good man as Kevin. I was sad when this book was finished as I didn't want to say goodbye to Wyatt and all his friends but I hope that the author might give us a little glimpse back into their lives at some point in the future.

This could have been easily a 5 star book. Loved the characters and the story. Interesting and engaging. The main problem for me was the endless repetition of certain scenes, situations and dialogues. Felt at times as if it was an exercise in copy and paste. There was no need for that. The writing was good, why pad it in that way?

“Winter Heart” is, emotionally and in terms of sheer verbiage, the grand finale of B.G. Thomas’s Seasons of Love series. Set up by the events of the last book (“Autumn Changes”), this is the story of Wyatt Dolan, the short, adorable, cuddly Little Bear we’ve gotten to know in the previous volumes. Wyatt is the one member of the Fabulous Four who always seems upbeat and enthusiastic. In “Winter Heart” we meet the real Wyatt, and we travel with him as he takes his longest journey.

Wyatt’s Prince Charming is Kevin Owens, a successful smartphone app designer from New York who has previously only been known to us by his faerie name – Hodor. Kevin has known Wyatt slightly for years, but has always resisted his attraction.

Then, circumstances happen. As they do.

Now, I need to step back a little and explain something about this relatively epic m/m romance and its companion volumes. As I’ve noted in my reviews of the other three books for PRG, these have a complex cultural underpinning that is drawn very much from the real-life experiences of gay men of my generation. There is a kind of visceral truth to a lot of what Thomas presents in “Winter Heart” that resonated with what I remember from thirty years ago. There are big issues here—faith, family, fidelity, sexual freedom, monogamy, mortality. Central to this seems to be a universal truth for gay men that hasn’t really changed during my lifetime: we have the need—indeed the right—to define ourselves as we want to be, not according to what others expect us to be. Even if those others are also gay men.

So, although “Winter Heart” has the requisite sex and HEA upon which the m/m world insists, it does so through the lens of an author who—according to his own notes at the back of the book—has experienced what he writes first-hand. And I could tell. This is a romance, but it is not a fantasy. The pain and the joy and the wild emotional swings that the reader experiences are infused with truth. It hits hard.

Because this story is so personal to the author, I will note that it is messier than the earlier books, a little untethered and less controlled in its writing and its plot. I found myself forgiving most of this because of the way it touched so many tender buttons in my psyche. At sixty-two, I’m actually more romantic than I was at 22, because I look back over the minor epic of my own life, adding the nostalgia of memory to who I am now. I was prepared to feel left out of this story of twenty-somethings struggling to find happiness and authenticity in the 21st century. I was surprised to find myself drawn in and embraced. This is a tale of kinship and brotherhood enriched with an insider’s wisdom and pain. It reaches across generations and welcomes us all.

Although presented as a pseudonymous pop singer in the text, Thomas cites at length a song titled “Fly” by a gay artist named Bobby Jo Valentine. I looked it up online, and immediately saw why Thomas wanted it in his book. You should look it up too.

The writing is so good. The emotions feel so real. The things happening are so touching, tragic, heart-wrenching.

But oh my God all of that happens while the MCs aren't even in contact yet. The interesting thing about the stories we read are how the couple work things out together, emphasis on couple. The plot should happen around the couple, not both having their journey separately until meeting and coming together near the end.

Everything happening is relevant for not only the gay community but everybody. Being save, being careful, not throwing your health away, staying true to oneself and ones beliefs. All very important topics.

But why let the MC's experience and deal with everything alone. It makes you wonder why aaalll those scenes are even relevant and if they couldn't have been tales they tell each other to get over them. Especially flashbacks to fex. the time Wyatt first met Howard. How can you root for a couple, how can two people grow closer and fall in love when there is nothing to live through together, to overcome together if the partner isn't there to experience everything with one another or to be the anchor. You know? ... all of that is happening in the second half, and though one might appreciate the "backstory" so to speak, it was waaayyyyy too long and might make many a reader loose interest before they even get to the good part.

What I did love was the second half of the book, when they finally met and really got to know each other. Some topics came up at different times, being triggered by questions or events, some so innocent like if Wyatt wanted to play a game. This was so much more emotional for me than the first half of the book. IMO I could have done without the whole part before they met up at the cabin. What was important was their talks, them finding their way together, Wyatt letting go, Kevin taking a chance, Kevin taking care of Wyatt and showing him that he was here to stay, them figuring out where to go after their initial "honeymoon phase". The whole plot, character development, drama, resolution happens in the second half of the book. I even started relating to Wyatt and didn't feel like he was just some random person sitting next to me in a café.

Rating only the second half of the book it could very well have been a 4* read for me - even though the author loves describing everything in detail, like whole songs, rituals, foods etc..

Very intensive book. I was reading it with big pleasure. Though I had my moments when they were having sex without showering for few days. I hope, they were using wet napkins, and it just was not specified in the book, as if it goes without saying. Though sex scene was good)))
And how they did all the lavatory things? When outside toilet is snowed?
I have question for Cauley (how to pronounce it?) - why did he die of aids? It's not 80s, even not 90s, he could live long if he used antiretroviral therapy.
House of Howard - I thought he and Wyatt were renting it, there was no specified that it's Howard's.
I am very glad, that Kevin and Wyatt found happiness together. I would also like to read if they visited that summer woo-woo-festival, and if Howard was there.
It also would be great to know, how all of the Four got acquainted with each other.
I like this series so much. I got to know a lot of very interesting things, and I liked author's look at the religion. I found something for me))
And second book, about Scott and Cedar - "Summer Lover", is my favourite. It made me cry sometimes, and sometimes - laugh.
Thank you, author, for such a great series💓💓💓

The angst & pain of Wyatt, MC who is this 4th installment of the 'Fabulous Four,' was palpable, and thus, at times this book was a difficult read. That I could actually feel what the emotions of the MC is a credit to the author's writing. As the novel progresses, it becomes somewhat of a tear-jerker: some of the key characters come forward to apologize for past behavior. Like all BG Thomas novels, WINTER HEART has a beautiful ending, or as is said in the trade, HEA.

SEASONS OF LOVE has been a wonderful, emotionally touching series of an extraordinary group of young men who live, work, and love in the middle in the US. I wonder whether I'll again have the privilege to enjoy their company...

I rocketed through this series. It was lovely. Interesting and fun and well done.

(My one ding is the going back in time when switching POV. It happened in this one and book 3, and it's a peeve of mine, but I was less annoyed than usual.)

“My excitement and anticipation for this fourth book were unparalleled – seriously. When I heard it was coming out, I was jumping up and down to snag a copy. I know, that’s a lot to live up to. And in many ways, this book exceeded my expectations – but there were a few things that irked me a bit, bringing it down from a 5. But let’s start with the amazingness, first.

Wyatt. Oh how amazing and loving and caring Wyatt is. I don’t remember him being so like-able during the first three installments, in fact, I remember him being just the opposite in some ways. But as a character, more than any of the other Fabulous Four (plus 4) – he was so well developed and created, it was impressive. Wyatt’s story shares so much more about who he is as a person, how he got to where he is in life, how important and loving his friendships actually are, and his place amongst it all. And I absolutely loved each moment of learning more about him. And let’s not forget the other part of this pair, Kevin. While we didn’t get as deep with him as Wyatt, for obvious reasons, his character and kindness were unmatched – and a pleasure to learn about. Not to mention, a perfect fit for Wyatt.

A few things to note in this winter book: there was a lot of nature-based religion conversations, which were lovely – but thought it could bear warning in case that’s something that you’re sensitive about. In addition, the thing that irked me more than anything else throughout the book, was the constant re-thinking/reiterating every single thing that was said and done. For example, Wyatt and Kevin have a conversation – then immediately after, Wyatt has to break down every sentence and overlay a reasoning or past association with it. I liked learning the associations, but abhorred re-reading the exact paragraphs I read on the pages prior. It felt like as a reader, I wasn’t being trusted to follow along… and I was! Perhaps it was more annoying because I read this book almost all at once – either way, it greatly affected my experience and the pacing.

That being said, if you’ve read the other three books, you MUST read this final installment. There are some special guests from some of Thomas’s other series which always makes me smile, and honestly, the characters in this book at the best yet – by far. It’s a great conclusion to the series and worth the wait!

The beginning of this book left me in awe. The grief coming from Wyatt for losing Howard, rarely I have despised a character so much as him btw, but especially the friendship between the Four and their lovers who joined them for their porch parties, the fabulous four plus.

I can not forget to mention the Yule celebration. It had me captivated, absorbing the information author B.G Thomas was giving in those pages, it is fabulous…

This story grabbed me and didn’t let go and it had me up reading for hours.

One of the most impressive things for me was the fact that almost half of the book takes place without Wyatt and Kevin being together or even meeting in person. It tells both their stories from each of their own views. It tells for example Wyatt’s life with Howard and his past and it tells Kevin’s relationship with best friend Cauley.

When they do meet is strangely the part where I did lose a bit of my concentration. It takes them quite some time to get together although you feel it coming for a long time. That is the only slight bit of criticism I have for this book.

When Kevin and Wyatt get together in more than one way it opens up opportunities but instead of having the pleasure to enjoy them, life throws them a curveball and it’s a hard one.

I am not going to go into detail about what happens as I honestly believe that it is for the reader to find out. For me the last part of the story was healing, fulfilling, eye-opening and more. The way Mr. Thomas show us the true meaning of love, friendship and family is outstanding.

This story is a beautiful sum up of life’s passings, of understanding love, religion, beliefs, friendship and relationships and couldn’t have been a more fitting ending to this series. The epilogue deserves a special mention though. It is the literal cherry on top of the cake. It leaves you smiling and a little choked up after you set yourself time to process this long but very worthwhile novel.

I have been following this series from the beginning and had the pleasure of reading and reviewing each story , with this fourth one the series ends , But as we know if you are a follower of B.G Thomas in his writing somewhere the characters will appear

I love this series. There are four books, one for each season, but they do stand alone fairly well. You will understand the characters better though, and why Wyatt is feeling so down if you do read them in order and they are worth the read. I have been waiting for Winter Heart forever. Well at least a good year, and it was well worth the wait.

Wyatt is a short, small bear of a man. His Faery name is Little Bear. He is a Pagan and its close to the Winter Solstice and without Howard he has no one to celebrate it with. His friends celebrate Christmas and are of other religious beliefs. Howards has drummed it into his head that no one loves him, that they only tolerated Wyatt for Howard, he soon finds out how many friends he has as they all help him celebrate and participate in his ritual. I loved this ritual. It was beautifully written and I could feel the Magick as it happened.

The story wasn't what I had expected at all, it was more! There is a lot of angst. and there are tons of sad spots so keep a tissue close. Lots of twists too. There was so much going on it seemed like one bad thing after another for poor Wyatt but god mixed with it.

I liked the songs and jokes that really made Wyatt's character pop. I love B G Thomas and he really outdid himself with this story.

If you like angst, believe in Magick, the fates, fated love, like stories of true friendship, don't mind other religions or religious talk,Like Pagan rituals, lots of twists and some sweet, loving man-sex this is for you! I highly recommend this series!

I've been waiting for Wyatt's story after reading the first three books, and it was even better than I'd hoped. Wyatt is such a sweet guy and deserves the happy ending he gets here. However, his journey isn't an easy one and he goes through quite a bit when Howard (the jerk!) dumps him. Fortunately, we get to see all the guys from the previous three books rallying around Wyatt, once again proving that the family you make can sometimes be the best.

It was fitting that we get to return to Camp Sanctuary which played a huge part in Summer Lover, and it's where Wyatt and Kevin get to know each other better and to fall in love. I loved all the scenes of their romance, but my favorite part of the book is the epilogue where we get to see all eight guys from the series celebrating together. I highly recommend the entire series.

There has never been a B.G. Thomas book that I didn't like, and Winter Heart is no exception. This is the fourth book in the series, it can be read out of order but you ABSOLUTELY should buy the the other three and devour them! We finally got Wyatt's story, and it's wonderful!

Wyatt's just gotten out of a very long relationship with a crappy guy. He's sad, he thinks he'll always be alone. Then along comes Kevin.

What I really want to talk about though is B.G.'s masterful ability to make each character fully realized, flaws and all. The other thing I love about each of his novels is that he always manages to sneak in stealth bomb of spiritual/magical wisdom on the reader, and I finish each book feeling like I've learned a something important while reading about to guys falling in love.

Gorgeous cover as has been the theme throughout this series and it alone deserves 5 stars. The book however is a solid 4 for me for various reasons. It was long, which is no bad thing, its a good thing but this was an an packed book, full of emotions on top of emotions which I needed to process by reading it in two sittings (I had a break half way through). It was also quite a personal book. The author literally put his heart into it, from the spirituality, the references to folklore and mythology I felt a little overwhelmed by it in places. That said, Wyatt was and is a gorgeous character and has been a favourite of mine since book 1. I'm so glad he got his happy end with Kevin.

I loved Wyatt and Kevin! And even before I read the afterword I could tell this book came from a very personal space for B.G. He always puts a bit of his experiences in a book but this one must have made him bleed. Wonderful story!

Winter Heart

B.G Thomas out did himself with this one. I have loved Wyatt from the beginning and I'm so glad he found what he didn't even know he was missing.
