Logan Brothers #1-2

The Logan Brothers

Rate this book
Meet The Logan Brothers! One has spent his life living down his father’s criminal legacy, and one has spent his life defying it. Either way, they’re both about to lose the women they love.

In TELL ME NO LIES, Dan Logan is the Citizen of the Year. Literally. And he worked hard for his stellar reputation after the disgrace his father caused the family. Now a successful district attorney, husband, father and, most importantly, well-respected by his community, he relishes the world he’s created.

Tessa, Dan’s wife, is committed to her family, loving and well-liked. But she hides a secret that threatens their marriage and their perfect existence. When her past comes to light, can she count on Dan to support her?

Reunion should be easy for these two people who believed nothing could tear them apart. But first, they must come to terms with their flaws and inadequacies. The question can do this and they stay together?

THE WRONG MAN is the story of Nick Logan, Dan’s younger brother, who left home at sixteen and fell into the seedy side of life on the street. He got his act together, though, went to school and became a psychotherapist at the Crime Victims Resource Center. There, he fell in love with Madelyn Walsh, but he leaves her because he can’t open up and commit.

Maddie was devastated by Nick’s abandonment, but has had three years to recover. Now she heads the Center where they both worked. Not knowing this, Nick returns to counsel troubled kids--teen like he was--and finds Maddie is his boss.

Only their commitment to helping others keeps them working together and in proximity to each other. Maddie won’t trust Nick again and Nick can’t come to terms with his dysfunctional past.

Ironically it is the young victims of alienation, bullying, rape and homicide who reunite the two in a stunning conclusion that will have you on the edge of your seats.
Kathryn Shay presents her usual emotional, heart-wrenching portrayal of contemporary issues, flawed characters, the plight of troubled teenagers and the power of forgiveness and redemption in these two full-length novels.

“TELL ME NO LIES is interesting and has an attention-holding, unique plot that will hook readers.” RT Book Reviews

“THE WRONG MAN is both sensual and fraught with tension as Maddie and Nick fight their continuing attraction for one another.” RT Book Reviews

Kathryn Shay is a lifelong writer. At fifteen, she penned her first 'romance,' a short story about a female newspaper reporter in New York City and her fight to make a name for herself in a world of male journalists - and with one hardheaded editor in particular. Looking back, Kathryn says she should have known then that writing was in her future. But as so often happens, fate sent her detouring down another path.

Fully intending to pursue her dream of big city lights and success in the literary world, Kathryn took every creative writing class available at the small private women's college she attended in upstate New York. Instead, other dreams took precedence. She met and subsequently married a wonderful guy who'd attended a neighboring school, then completed her practice teaching, a requirement for the education degree she never intended to use. But says Kathryn, "I fell in love with teaching the first day I was up in front of a class, and knew I was meant to do that."

Kathryn went on to build a successful career in the New York state school system, thoroughly enjoying her work with adolescents. But by the early 1990s, she'd again made room in her life for writing. It was then that she submitted her first manuscript to publishers and agents. Despite enduring two years of rejections, she persevered. And on a snowy December afternoon in 1994, Kathryn Shay sold her first book to Harlequin Superromance.

Since that first sale, Kathryn has written twenty-one books for Harlequin, nine mainstream contemporary romances for the Berkley Publishing Group, and two online novellas, which Berkley then published in traditional print format.

Kathryn has become known for her powerful characterizations - readers say they feel they know the people in her books - and her heart-wrenching, emotional writing (her favorite comments are that fans cried while reading her books or stayed up late to finish them). In testament to her skill, the author has won five RT BookClub Magazine Reviewers Choice Awards, three Holt Medallions, two Desert Quill Awards, the Golden Leaf Award, and several online accolades.

Even in light of her writing success, that initial love of teaching never wavered for Kathryn. She finished out her teaching career in 2004, retiring from the same school where her career began. These days, she lives in upstate New York with her husband and two children. "My life is very full," she reports, "but very happy. I consider myself fortunate to have been able to pursue and achieve my dreams."

The Logan Brothers is by Kathryn Shay. This two-book series is bundled together as a book set. The two books cover the lives of two brothers, Dan and Nick Logan. After their Father was sent to prison and their home broken up, Dan adjusted by becoming the “perfect child”. He tried to control his environment to the point that everything was perfect. Unknowingly, he married Tessa Lawrence who kept her “imperfect” past a secret. He has to deal with that secret when her ex-boyfriend gets out of jail after having served fifteen years. Nick did not adjust to the change in his life. He rebelled to the point of having his Mother kick him out of the house when he was sixteen. She could not handle him anymore. Instead of causing Nick to change, he continued to rebel for years. Finally, he straightened out and went to college and became a counselor for troubled teens. He made peace with his brother; but refused to have anything to do with their Mother and definitely not with their Dad. Now he has to deal with his past in order to have a future. Both books keep the reader enthralled until the end. Both books are extremely realistic and definitely hit on topics that need to be addressed in today’s society.

Superb

These books deserve more than five stars. They are the kind of stories that keep you up all night to get to the end. They leave you with things to think about and maybe affect your own life. One thing I look for in a book is whether the writing itself is good enough to let you keep your mind in the story without being pulled aside by a big grammar error or misspelling. These passed with flying colors.

I loved reading the Logan Brothers box set. The books are about two brothers whose personalities were shaped by their father’s betrayal when they were younger. In the first book, TELL ME NO LIES, older brother Dan, tries to do everything right and follow the rules. He pursued and married Tessa over 10 years earlier, but didn’t really know much of her past. Tessa hid her past from Dan, knowing that he wouldn’t approve of the things she did in her youth and her former boyfriend. When her former boyfriend comes for her, Tessa does all she can to protect her family and keep them from finding out about her past. When Dan does find out, he struggles to forgive her for lying to him all these years. However, when circumstances conspire against them, can they must come together and try to forgive and forget.

In THE WRONG MAN, Nick, the younger brother who was kicked out of the house when he was 16, must overcome the resentment he feels towards his mother and ultimately his father for the path he took. Three years ago he left his girlfriend Maddie because he couldn’t get over his past. He is now back and working with her and the feelings are stronger than ever, however, he still hasn’t dealt with his issues. Together they counsel youth at an Crime Victims Resource Center and the lessons they are teaching the youth are lessons they must face themselves in order to finally be together.

I enjoyed reading about both of these brothers and ultimately the love that is strong enough to help them overcome their past.

I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.

The entwined story of The Logan Brothers is incredibly deep and heart rendering. In Tell Me No Lies, Dan's need for control and the perfect shine to his image make it difficult for Tessa to be honest with him and to let him into her deepest, darkest secrets. When her past comes back to haunt her, Tessa finds Dan's reaction is beyond hurtful. Without warning Dan finds himself drawn into the vortex of Tessa's problems and his image is not only being severely tarnished, but the whole fabric of his life starts to crumble. Tessa withdraws from their relationship, especially when the beautiful Allison steps up to the plate to rescue Dan with her money and her defence attorney skills. Apart from Tessa's own juvenile indiscretions, Dan is also dealing with the fallout from his father's criminal activities and the effect it had on his life. Brother Nick had his own set of problems, but he assists Dan to face his dilemma, his being the voice of reason as the dust begins to settle. How does one bounce back after revelations have been made, hurt and betrayal experienced and being ostracised by a community? Both Dan and Tessa have to look deep within themselves to find the original kernel of truth regarding their love for each, and find ways to work with what they have left.

In The Wrong Man for Her, emotionally damaged Nick follows Dan and Tessa back to Rockford, where they all plan to start a new life after the horrors they have been through. Nick gets his old job back at the Rockford Crime Victims Center, but finds he has been misled by his old boss, and that the woman he had run from in panic is now his new boss. Nick and Maddy find that despite all their best attempts to avoid each, they are forced to work together more than originally anticipated, but not without stirring up very deep feelings. Working with the victims of crime also takes its toll on them, however they find that together they make incredible headway with the teenagers that have been allocated to their therapy sessions. Both therapists have their own unresolved issues, and in an attempt to persuade the children to open up to them, Nick and Maddy start revealing their own issues. The more they open up to the children and to each other, the more fragile they both become. When tragedy strikes, both Nick and Maddy have to take a fresh look at themselves and decide whether their attraction, which hasn't diminished one iota, is worth rescuing.

Both stories were sad but ended on a hopeful note.

Tell Me No Lies – Dan Logan

Dan and Tessa Logan were blissfully happy in their marriage and raising their two sweet daughters, Sara and Molly. The only off thing was that while Tessa was extremely close to her sister, Janey, Dan had a non-relationship with his father. This made issues for him trying to be the perfect DA and keep everything under control in his life. When a very ugly situation from Tessa’s past in the form of an old boy friend shows up in town, everything spins out of control for this family.

The Wrong Man For Her – Nicholas Logan

Nick and Maddie had a history, which included heartbreak. Nick has a lot of issues concerning his mother, so he runs from commitment. When Nick takes a job at a crisis center working with troubled teens and finds out Maddie will be his boss he thinks this is a bad idea. Once they start working together they do great things for the kids needing their specialized abilities. When one of the teenagers decides he has had enough Nick and Maddie wonder if they will be able to open up to each other about their treat feelings.

Kathryn Shay writes fantastic stories about real life heartache, tears, laughter, love and second chances. You will find strong but broken heroes and women who aren’t perfect but love dearly. The plot in both these stories was so well written you just keep turning pages and before you realize it you are at the end. Also, there is a bad guy who is truly evil but broken himself. I thoroughly enjoyed both of these books as well as many others by this author.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

This double feature is all about two brothers. The first novel - Tell me no lies is all about Dan Logan and him seemingly perfect life with his wife of ten years Tessa Logan and their two daughters Sara and Molly. Their relationship is based on trust, so when Dan discovers that his wife has lied to him, it brings back hurtful memories from his past and he begins to push her away. However, things take a turn for the worst when an unexpected person from Tessa's past shows up. Many lives are hurt in the process and Dan and Tessa must work through their issues to try and keep their marriage alive.
The wrong man for her - is the second novel and is all about Dan's brother Nick Logan. He has had a very turbulant upbringing, being estranged from his family after getting kicked out of home at the age of sixteen. He took many wrong turns, however he managed to turn his life around for the better and became a councellor for at risk youths. He was in love with Maddie, but left her because he couldn't handle commitment or the fear of rejection if she was to leave him. Now three years later, by chance he finds himself back working with Maddie as his boss. Old feelings are re-ignited but can Maddie trust that Nick won't run again. Brilliant support cast of all the at risk teens, and hearing their stories was heartbreaking but it is so great knowing in real life, there are people out there like Nick. Brilliant read!

I was given this book free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. Both books were very emotional but the first was a lot more so than the second, you re live what Tessa had shut out of her life over ten years ago when she married Dan and made herself a family with their 2 daughters. She faces it in the only way she can by hiding it from the man she's loved and who kept her safe and feeling loved since they got married. It's a very powerful set of books telling 2 very different stories, but both of are about trying to leave your past behind without having closure or coming to terms with what happened to you. You see that keeping things bottled up doesn't work. I cried through parts of both books more so the first book, but the second was very close to my heart and I could understand how Maddie and Kara felt. I was drawn into the storyline it felt like a true story and how people reacted was spot on as how some people are with others. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes a great story that also has a romantic side to it, it's very well written and another book I will re read more than once. I'll also read a lot more from this author in the future.

Tell Me No Lies
Tessa and Dan have been married for 10 years when her secret past comes back to haunt her.  By keeping it from her husband, she is in danger of violating his strict insistence on truth instead of lies and omissions.  There are real issues that come between them and they react in their own way.  It seems that that they may not get over the truth once it comes out.

This book is very suspenseful and the issues raised are intriguing.  Book clubs would find much to discuss about the main charactors, actions and emotions in this novel.

The Wrong Man
Nick finds out that he will be working for his ex-girlfriend Maddie on the morning he starts his new job.  As a teen victim counselor, he has to work closely with Maddie who hasn't forgiven him for breaking up with him because of his relationship fears.   They work closely together to help the teens in crisis.  Their relationship is complex and their compassion for the teens is heartfelt.

The Logan Brothers is a collection of two previously written books by this very talented author. Whenever I pick up one of Ms Shay's books , I know that it will be a thought provoking story and this one is no different. In both stories nothing is black and white . Our formative years influence our present. That if we don't get the support , love , and understanding of those who are suppose to take care of us and love us, as adults we might not be able to develop emotionally. In addition, the author reminds us that we should not judge others. In both stories, the couples need to overcome obstacles and need to remember that love, trust and respect will conquer all.
So do not hesitate in picking up this book. You will not be disappointed.

I enjoyed this 2 in 1book. The stories are about two brothers who were hurt by the betrayal of their dad when they were young . Dan lived as a perfectionist and almost lost his wife as a result of keeping the secret of her past from him which almost led to the breaking down of their marriage. While Nick lived with fear of commitment and almost lost the love of his life. But along the way the two of them did the right thing and got their happily ever after. The book is very captivating and interesting. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review".
