Christmas Lights: A Collection of Inspiring Christmas Novellas

Rate this book
A Synopsis of Christmas Lights
Amazon best-selling authors Chautona Havig and Vikki Kestell join debuting authors Cathe Swanson and April Hayman to present Christmas Lights , a collection of four Christmas-themed novellas. From historical romance to contemporary cozy mysteries and Christmas wonder, these four "light" reads will warm your heart and ignite your Christmas spirit!

The Heart of Joy (Vikki Kestell): Joy Michaels, grieving mother and widow, resides in an aging but remarkable Denver home known locally as Palmer House: a most extraordinary refuge for young women rescued from prostitution. Joy and her mother, Rose Thoresen, share the responsibilities of ministering to and mentoring the young women who live under Palmer House’s roof.

But now Joy faces an agonizing decision: Remain true to the memory of her first love or open her heart to the possibility of new love? And she wonders, “Can true, enduring love happen twice in a lifetime?”

Snow Angels (Cathe Swanson): When Lisa Marsh is roped into serving Thanksgiving dinner at the local community center, she meets lively teenagers, stubbornly independent veterans, eccentric elderly people, and one particularly rude and scruffy homeless man named Pete. She sets out to find him a decent job and make him respectable—whether he likes it or not—but her small project of helping Pete snowballs into an extraordinary Christmas ministry. And the vagabond can be very charming when he wants to be...

Trip the Light Fantastic (April Hayman): Lance “Trip” Devereaux is an FBI agent tasked with the nearly impossible job of tailing and, hopefully, arresting Landry Crawford, the wiliest conman east of the Mississippi River. But during his investigation, things go horribly wrong for the klutzy G-man. Will Trip nab his man in time for Christmas? Or will he be left out in the cold?

Christmas Stalkings (Chautona Havig): Wendy Nabity is known for her superfluity of cats and her “seven-tree obsession” every Christmas—but when strange things happen around her house, it appears someone is out to get her! Revel in comedy, suspense, and a garnish of romance.

"Christmas Lights" Box Set
-- multiple authors

An enjoyable and interesting box set. No two novellas are alike. A collection written by four talented authors.

Humor, life lessons, hope, and love all come through in each of these novellas.

"Christmas Stalkings" by
Chautona Havig

"A truly fun mystery/suspense novella" ~ a.k

Chautona Havig has written an enjoyable and arresting novella with "Christmas Stalkings."

At times serious, others pensive, and yet others full of hope and love, this novella covers a lot of ground.

The reader is pulled in from the first word and the author keeps the reader fully engaged throughout.

Ms Havig has developed some wonderful and enjoyable characters and has written a plausible plot line that focuses on one woman, her 7 cats, and someone who seems to dislike them. In addition, the incidents that occur are slowly driving her crazy.

A charming and arresting story about the love and joy cats bring to ones life, even when others think she is a "crazy old cat lady."

Readers can't go wrong with this holiday novella. Fun, laugh out loud, serious and mysterious...

"Snow Angels" by Cathe Swanson

A magical and spiritual story that will bring light to your heart and faith to humanity.

A story of a woman who decides to help a man she believes to be homeless. She decides that she can get him involved in the community and he be paid a small sum in order to get him working in some capacity. From her initial "community service idea" for him, her project snowballs into many different services they are able to provide for the elderly in one community. Thus, the number of people who are "working" increases. Suddenly she has created the "Snow Angels" project.

I loved Lisa and Pete, the
main characters. They
both learn a great deal from one another and from all the other characters along the way. And they teach the reader many, as well. All of the characters are authentic and relatable. They have their strengths and flaws. Their faith is tested on and off, but they are able to come around again.

I really loved the storyline and the whole premise of the "Snow Angels" concept. The author never lost site of the many services the project bloomed into and was able to truly carry the reader through them without dropping any of them or losing her initial premise (job for one man). It all flowed well and the really kept the reader engaged.

For her debut novella, and in general, Cathe Swanson has written a marvelous story that any reader, make or female, will enjoy and suggest to their friends and family.

"The Heart of Joy" by Vicki Kestell.

A historical romance of finding love the second time around.

Joy lost her husband, Grant, to a long illness three years ago and her child has been missing for some time (not sure what happened with that). Despite it being three years since his death, Joy is having mixed feelings about moving forward in her life.

Edmund O'Dell was Grant's best friend. Grant asked him to take care of Joy as he knew Edmund cared about her deeply.

Slowly, Joy begins to listen to her heart and seems guidance from the Lord.

This is a dated novel that is period specific in many ways, yet has some modern overtones. They are subtle, but are there.

The characters were interesting as was the message, but it felt as if there was something of substance missing in this novella.

It is a quick read and I didn't feel the need to step back or stop reading. Yet, I felt like the ending just dropped off abruptly.

An interesting novel and premise with characters that really needed to be brought forth stronger and be more relatable, even in a historical novella.

"Trip the Light Fantastic" by April Hayman

Author April Hayman had written a fun and quirky novella about an FBI agent who is prone to accidents. Hence his nickname, Trip.

Just before Christmas, Trip's boss gives him an assignment. Track down a man named Landry Crawford and gather evidence in order to arrest him.

What happens after his is mugged and received a major concussion is nothing but wonderful. Trip learns about justice and the several meanings it can have. Not just the one he assigns it. He learns that what is on the inside is more important than what is on the outside or how others present themselves. He learns to listen to his heart and let that affect him more than using only his logical mind. He learns to respect the negativity of one twin sister in order to realize that even though the two sisters bicker, they do so with love. He learns that there is often more than meets the eye when it comes to assumptions or what we think we see as reality and that it is not always just black and white. He learns what forgiveness truly means and how it affects oneself and others. He learns to have faith in God, himself and others. And he learns what it means to have family and friends to count on, to learn from, and to recognize that differences are just as important as similarities with others.

The author uses a lot of different techniques to bring forth all these concepts and more. She had a great storyline and absolutely wonderful and well developed characters that come together in a novella that is full of humor, kinship, hope, friendship and trust.

I have not previously read any of Ms Hayman's books, I did find this one to be a bit long winded and not able to hold my attention at times. I felt it could have been condensed a fair amount. It did pick up here and there during the first half, and did so for the last quarter. Despite that, info look forward to reading some of her other books in the future.

A collection of four very different Christmas stories by four different authors. I was excited to get this and reading these stories.

The Heart of Joy
by Vikki Kestell - 2 stars
While I enjoyed most of this story, I felt cheated. Things were mentioned yet never explained, and, since I had never read any of her other books, I didn't know what had happened to the baby. And it wasn't until near the end of the story that I found out how Joy's husband had died. I felt rather lost and confused when I reached the end. It seemed as though this was pulled out of one of her other books and you need to read them before you read this.
(And then she mentioned a few things that wouldn't have been happening or felt very out of place for the time period.)

Snow Angels
by Cathe Swanson - 4 stars
I wasn't sure I would like this at first. It felt a little confused, but things quickly dropped into place and I had to smile several times over these characters. This is one I'll read again.

Trip the Light Fantastic
by April Hayman - 2 stars
I sort of liked this story, but mostly didn't. I mean, I can't imagine this guy landing a job with the FBI. Sorry, I just can't. Then there were too many uses of the Lord's Name that I wanted to white out. And at the end, well, I wasn't sure if the bad guys really got caught or if they weren't because they weren't "really bad" only doing wrong things for the right reason. That sort of thing doesn't sit well with me.

Christmas Stalkings
by Chautona Havig - 4.5 stars
This was my favorite in the collection. I cracked up several times and I just know the author must have enjoyed writing this story. I was about half way through when I began to get just the smallest suspicion of who was responsible for the events taking place. Now I want to read more about these characters. I like them. I'm not a cat person, but I'm going to enjoy reading this story again.

What a fun read this was. The collection, made up of four books by four different authors, was a pleasant surprise to me. I wasn’t sure about a couple of the writers that I had never read before. As it turned out they were just as fun to read as the ones with whom I was familiar.

The collection was a great combination; each book was totally different from the others. The variety made an enjoyable holiday book as a whole. The approach in each one presented a different aspect of Christmas. Each author had a distinct style that made each book stand out with its own character and personality.

The Heart of Joy revealed how God can bring joy out of sorrow; that when we trust in Him and wait on Him with patience He will reward us with joy and peace; that’s why He came to earth as a babe and saves us by His sacrifice on the cross. Joy and O’Dell went through great sorrow, but saw God bring all things to good in their lives. It’s a great love story, not mushy!

Snow Angels taught a great lesson about having a heart for others and not making judgments based on appearances. Lisa and Pete are wonderful characters. The story is full of great humor and great lessons of love between people here and between people and God. There are good spiritual truths, but no sermonizing. Another good romance, too. I really loved this book!

Trip the Light Fantastic was another tale with good humor, a good story, and lovable characters. Once again Christmas is the time frame and loving others is one of the themes of the book. There’s a bit of mystery as well as Trip, an FBI agent, is given a case that will hold the potential for an arrest he hopes will earn him a promotion. But the twists and turns keep Trip puzzled and the reader guessing.

Christmas Stalkings brings a whole new meaning to Christmas! What a fun, humorous book. True to her style, the author has brought us a great story, some funny scenes, great characters, a little romance, and Biblical principles all rolled up into one great book about Christmas. Put together Wendy, who loves cats and owns seven, one very shy Peter, the neighbor to whom Wendy is attracted, one very cranky Neal, the neighbor whom Wendy could definitely live without, and one unknown stalker, and you have a story from which you can’t tear yourself away.

I was privileged to be an advance reader and receive a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Worth every minute of my time!

Christmas Lights is a collection of four contemporary festive tales. Each one unique and totally fabulous reads.
The Heart Of Joy by Vikki Kestral is a delightful tale that explores love and loss. Joy fears loving again as everything she loves, she loses. God does not wish us to live a life of fear. Fear is the opposite of faith. God wants us to trust Him and live again.
The novella is beautifully written and it really spoke to my heart. I loved Blackie, a small dog. Vikki Kestral is a master story teller. She made me smile and she made me cry. A delightful tale.
Snow Angels by Cathe Swanson is a story about compassion, healing and judgment. People can be quick to judge and label based solely on appearance. There is also a tendency to treat people differently based on the categories we have assigned them.
The novella shows how some are totally filled with compassion for others. They are willing not only to give without expecting anything back, but they are prepared to walk the same road as others. People give even when they may have very little possessions which reminds the reader of the widows mitre.
The homeless shelter in the story is a place filled with warmth and camaraderie. People are sometimes homeless through no fault of their own. There are war veterans in the shelter. It is sad to see that people who fought for their country can become invisible to others when the conflict is over. The subject of PTSD links in to this topic too.
A wonderful tale set at Christmas that reveals the heart of God.
Trip The Light Fantastic by April Hayman is an intricate tale where things are not always as they seem. Appearances can be deceptive. The reader is reminded that God looks at our inward appearance more than our outer one.
The novella is about forgiveness and new beginnings. You are never too old to have a new start with God.
There are some highly amusing moments. The lead character is not called Trip for nothing! There is also a pair of highly amusing elderly twins called Sissy and Sassy.
An amusing read.
Christmas Stalkings by Chautona Havig is such a delightful tale concerning a mystery and a household of many cats with the names of Santa's reindeer. I had complete empathy with Wendy, the main character, as I, too am a crazy cat lady. I recognised a lot of my character traits in Wendy.
Appearances can be deceptive. Too often we make snap judgments based solely on what we think we see in others. God always sees beyond the external and looks at the heart.
There is the subject of grief in the story. Grief can be all consuming. Grief can bring regrets and guilt. Pets, particularly cats can be theraputic and help with the grieving process.
Christmas Stalkings was a wonderful read that really 'spoke' to me. I adored Wendy and her cats.
Christmas Lights is a wonderful collection of stories that are just perfect to read in the run up to the festive season. All were delightful reads but my favourite was Christmas Stalkings as I could associate with Wendy and her love of cats.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

What a cute collection of Christmas novellas! Each one unique, no two stories alike.

In Vikki Kestell’s “The Heart of Joy”, readers are treated to more of Joy Michaels’ story – a young widow who was first introduced in the third book in Kestell’s Prairie Heritage series. This one is the only historical novella in the group and is a tender romance between two longtime friends. Lots of very sweet moments in this one… but if you’re a dog lover and have a difficult time with books like Where the Red Fern Grows or Marley & Me, etc. there are also some moments in this story that might be too disturbing for you to read. Also… I really must know what happened to Joy’s son. Please tell me there’s another book coming up that will answer this question?!?

Cathe Swanson’s fiction debut “Snow Angels” is a heartwarming, humorous, romantic novella that I could absolutely see made into a Hallmark movie! In fact, if I’m allowed a wishlist for that channel-of-all-movies-Christmas, “Snow Angels” currently is at the top. Vivid characters, the perfect dose of laughter, a nice touch of swoon factor – and a touching reminder that there but for the grace of God go any of us. Swanson’s story is my very fave of this collection, and I’m eagerly looking forward to her novel in the same series which comes out in early 2017.

“Trip the Light Fantastic” by another debut author, April Hayman, is a quirky story about a quirky FBI agent who takes a Christmastime assignment to track down a quirky conman and ends up with more than he bargained for. Even though this is a contemporary tale, it has a certain “Sam Spade Private Eye” vintage feel to it – which I loved! It abounds with … wait for it … quirky (there’s just no better word for them) characters whose endearing and gentler qualities sneak up on you when you least expect it. A few twists seem a tad farfetched but hey – it’s fiction and it’s fun!

Chautona Havig closes out the collection with “Christmas Stalkings”, a blend of suspense, humor, and a dash of romance. Wendy is a pleasantly-kooky cat lady who could be any of us really (minus all the cats) and she’s sandwiched between two socially awkward gentlemen as neighbors. Mayhem abounds, Havig-style, so be prepared to giggle a lot in this one too!

Bottom Line: If you’re looking for a nice respite from the holiday chaos, pull up your coziest chair and turn on some twinkle lights and then open up this fun collection and settle in! You’ll go through a range of emotions – from heartbreak to happiness and a little bit of everything in between – but most importantly each story will keep you focused on the most important Christmas Light – the Light of the World. I am especially impressed with the debut novellas in the bunch and look forward to more offerings from each of them in the future!

“Christmas Lights” was a delightful collection of Christmas stories. I really liked the variety of styles and settings between the stories while each kept to the meaning of Christmas. Each story was so unique and enjoyable that it would be difficult for me to choose a favorite. I actually have not read previous novels by any of these authors but I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for their books in the future.

The Heart of Joy seems to be a follow-up to a previous novel and features Joy, a grieving widow and her late husband’s best friend. I enjoyed this historical Christmas romance, especially the happy ending. I do hope that there will be another companion story to clear up the one mystery that remained unsolved.

Snow Angels was a more modern story that was rife with misunderstandings, especially concerning the true identity of one of the characters. What a fun but romantically sweet story! I felt like I got to know the characters quickly and would love to read more about them and their mission center.

Trip the Light Fantastic was not what I would consider a romance but that didn’t stop it from being entertaining. I loved the good-hearted yet bumbling Trip and all his exploits. What fun! I loved him and the three elderly characters featured in this story and how they all discovered the true meaning of the season. Yes, I would love to read more stories about Trip. Maybe he too might discover love in the future!

And then there was Christmas Stalkings! The crazy cat lady on steroids with a themed Christmas tree for each of her well-loved felines was another fun read. With an attractive but shy male neighbor on one side and a pretty grouchy single guy on the other, Wendy had hope that romance might develop between herself and the shy fellow but he ran every time she tried to strike up a conversation. On the other hand, cantankerous Neal always seemed to be underfoot and making Wendy feel inferior. As Christmas approached, it became evident that someone was entering her house while she was away but very little evidence was left behind. I enjoyed this one so much and although I had an inkling of how it would end, I still loved it.

I am delighted that I agreed to review this Christmas collection. I discovered some new authors and had a good time reading while being reminded of the real reason for the season. This would be great for those long winter evenings leading up to Christmas after the shopping and baking are done and the gifts wrapped. Take a well deserved break and treat yourself to “Christmas Lights”.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that was provided by Celebrate Lit Publicity Group. A favorable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.

Great start to the Christmas seasonal reading!
I love finding new authors to read! This collection had three that were new to me and I can’t wait to read more of their books! These novellas were a great way to get ready for the Christmas season that will be coming up soon. I received a complimentary copy of this book and chose to review it. All opinions are my own.
Each book features related themes that we all find more prevalent during Christmas such has hope, joy and generosity and yet they show values that will make you think about your own.
The Heart of Joy was delightfully set in historical Denver. It deals with grief, healing and renewed joy. I wasn’t aware this was an addendum to a series by Vikki Kestell until the end. It was enjoyable by itself and I will be looking to obtain the other books in the series.
Snow Angels was the book by new author Cathe Swanson. Loved this novella! I can’t wait to read the rest of the Great Lakes Collection that will be coming out. The humor and depth of characters as well as the lessons God is teaching Lisa Marsh regarding her past and present preconceived ideas, makes for an enjoyable and thought-provoking read. I was left with a longing to find out what happens next to many of the characters! You’ll love it too!
Trip the Light Fantastic by April Hayman was based on an FBI agent who is different than your normal run of the mill agent. His character is one that grows and changes as he takes a closer look at his own priorities. I thoroughly appreciated the quirky sisters and the hilarious situations that are developed as they stumble through the circumstances they face! It was such a delight to read and to see how an outlook on the Christmas season can change.
Another charming book by Chautona Havig! Christmas Stalkings could be considered to have a “crazy cat lady” but as you read you’ll love the way she adores and appreciates her pets. There is mystery and frustration as the scenes unfold, along with two intriguing neighbors and lots of good humor! Ms. Havig never disappoints in the intertwining of different characters and their unique traits. You’ll love this and learn to appreciate Christmas through the eyes of Wendy Nabity and her lovable cats!

I highly recommend this collection!

This is a fun Christmas collection from 4 authors. I was well acquainted with one of the authors, Chautona Havig. I had read at least one book by Vikki Kestell. The other 2 authors, April Hayman and Cathe Swanson, were completely new to me as this is their debut. I enjoyed each story. Each novella revolved around Christmas. Each one had a large element of hope through rough circumstances. The Heart of Joy has a historical setting. It is actually part of a series, but the author did a wonderful job of setting the characters and telling the story without making you feel like you had to read every other book in the series to enjoy it. The other 3 books are funny, sweet and the perfect books enjoy during a busy season. This collection is a cost effective fun way to enjoy authors that are new to you. I read an advance copy, but would have definitely found it worth purchasing this collection.

These stories are perfect for the season and will give you the warm and fuzzy feeling we are all craving this time of year! They will certainly not disappoint. This is the perfect gift collection for the book lover in your life all wrapped up and ready to give!

Christmas Lights is a collection of four novellas written by four wonderful authors. Each novella is Christmas themed and range from historical romance to contemporary.

The Heart of Joy by Vikki Kestell: Joy Michaels is a grieving mother and widow who lives in the Palmer House in Denver. The Palmer House serves as a refuge for young women who have been rescued from prostitution. Joy is unsure if she wants to open her heart up again.

Snow Angels by Cathe Swanson: Lisa Marsh is roped into serving Thanksgiving Dinner at the local community center but meets some lively teenagers, some stubbornly independent veterans, eccentric elderly people, an one particularly rude and scruffy homeless man named Pete. What Lisa does for Pete is something no one as ever done for him it truly is a Christmas to remember.

Trip the Light Fantastic by April Hayman: Lance “Trip” Devereaux is an FBI agent tasked with the nearly impossible job of tailing and, hopefully, arresting Landry Crawford. But things go horribly wrong. Will he get the conman in time for Christmas or will he be left out in the cold?

Christmas Stalkings by Chautona Havig: A story of comedy, suspense and a pinch of romance. Wendy Nabity has a lot of cats and has a “seven-tree obsession” every Christmas but when strange things begin happening, Wendy can’t help to think someone is out to get her.

These were great stories to read, I really enjoyed how each story was different and led you down a different road. Each author has her own personality and it shows in their writing style. I can reassure that you will thoroughly enjoy this collection of four novellas!!

The Christmas Lights collection has two seasoned authors who are favorites of mine (Chautona Hartvig and Vikki Kestell) and two authors who are debuting with this collection (Cathe Swanson and April Hayman).
The first book in the series is part of the Prairie Heritage series by Vikki Kestell. One of my favorite series of all time. A gentle, romantic story of how Joy found the courage to love again after losing her first husband filled with humor as well as Christian values, The Heart of Joy is a good read.

Snow Angels by Cathe Swanson is set within the context of ministering to the homeless. There are moments of heartbreak and moments of great humor in this story of how a widow deals with the guilt of failing her husband, finds healing and finds new love.

Trip the Light Fantastic has aspects of mystery, humor and romance. Honestly, I laughed more reading these four novellas than I have in a long time. Characters like the hero in this story, Trip, who are a bit quirky but have real problems they deal with as Christians fill all four books. The mystery aspects in this one kept me guessing and reading to find out the answers.

The final offering Christmas Stalkings has one of the funniest scenes to wrap up a mystery I have ever read. Wendy is a cat lady raising seven cats. Each has its own Christmas tree and Christmas stocking. Someone is making changes to the trees, someone is stalking Wendy. Wendy's neighbors on either side are concerned for her safety. The final ending will keep you smiling for a long time, I promise.

Start your holidays with this collection and you won't be sorry.

I didn't really care for this collection. I thought the first story was okay, the second mediocre, the third one seemed to ramble all over the place, and didn't finish the last one. I was ready to move on to something different as the stories did not hold my attention. Granted, I usually choose historical fiction and most of these were not from that genre. I have read stories by two of the authors before which is why I thought I'd try this collection but it wasn't right for me this year.

The Heart of Joy:
I enjoyed this Christmas Novella about Joy and her ability to move on from her husband's death. I imagine it was no coincidence that Edmund was at the cemetery when Joy went to visit Grant's grave! What I liked the most was the pace of their relationship. It was obvious from the start that Edmund has feelings for Joy, however he never pushed her or made her feel uncomfortable.
There was one mystery to me however. It was stated that Joy had a son with Grant but he was not around, as if he was missing. I would have liked to have read a backstory for that (unless I missed it?). Was he kidnapped or was he sent away? I think it may have added to the depth of Joy's character.
All in all a sweet read showing that magic does happen at Christmas!

Snow Angels:
I thought this was a nice story. I had to laugh at the way Lisa thought Pete was a "visitor" of the community center. I was one of those readers who chuckled out loud every time I read one of their scenes. Although I thought perhaps this charade went on a tad too long, it was still comical to read.
I really connected with Lisa once she got into the Snow Angels project. I feel like her character came to life once the opportunity to serve presented itself. She needed something to get her past the guilt of her husband's death and this was the perfect way. I would love to see a future novella that shows the Snow Angels project expanding and helping more people!

Trip the Light Fantastic:
This story was just okay for me. I liked the storyline and enjoyed the way the author wrote, however I felt it just dragged on a little too long. It took me a bit to put the storyline all together and at times I felt a little confused as to what was going on. I may try and reread this one to gain some clarity - maybe second time around will be better.
I did like Trip's character development. After reading about him through the first few chapters I was hoping there would be some changes coming for him. And I really enjoyed the subtle ways the author brought change to him. It made me like his character even more. While I did appreciate his willingness to work hard in order to take care of his mother, but at what cost?

Christmas Stalkings:
I found this novella to be rather comical as well. Wendy reminded me of the crazy cat lady that talks to herself and has no friends! Then when she claimed things were happening, it's no wonder people didn't believe her! I felt the author did an outstanding job writing this character!
I found myself going back and forth between how I felt about Neal and Peter and their ability to woo Wendy. I felt that after what she had been through in her past, Wendy deserved a really great guy. I like the ending - thought it was just the right ending for Wendy!

Four delightful holiday novellas.

I thoroughly enjoyed all of the main characters in each of these stories.

The Heart of Joy (A Prairie Heritage Novella) by Vikki Kestell

This story is a fantastic historical romance. It was obvious from the beginning of the story that there was some history between Joy Michaels and Edmund O’Dell. I haven’t read any of the novels in the series that this story belongs in. This led to some confusion for me by some of the things that were mentioned. After I finished reading the entire story I realized that it belonged in a series. Then I recognized that I would have understood things much better if I had read the previous books. The thing I loved the most in this story is the deep faith that was expressed by the characters in it.

Snow Angels (A Great Lakes Series Novella) by Cathe Swanson

This novella is a sweet contemporary romance. Lisa Marsh and Anders “Pete” Petersen are both big hearted people that want to help others. The story is filled with humorous scenes as conclusions are jumped to and communication breaks down. It was a delight to see how things got sorted out in the end.

Trip the Light Fantastic by April Hayman

This story is a contemporary bumbling FBI agent (Lance “Trip” Devereaux) trying to catch the bad guy (Landry Crawford). The comedy is hilarious and kept me chuckling. The cast of characters are some of the quirkiest I have ever seen. Two of them are Landry’s elderly cousins, Sassy and Sissy. One of the main topics dealt with is the need to forgive others.

Christmas Stalkings by Chautona Havig

Wendy Nabity is the crazy cat lady to the max. Not only does she have seven but she decorates seven trees each Christmas. Each of them is themed around one of her lovely pets. I loved the detailed descriptions of the decorations used on the trees. The way Wendy is always trying to encourage herself to be a better person really caught my attention. It is something we should all strive to do. Maybe we can skip the talking to ourselves though.

I received a free eBook copy of this novella collection through Celebrate Lit. I have chosen to write this review to express my personal opinion.

Joy for Christmas

I loved Joy. Her emotions, her grief and confusion is just so raw and honest, and though I have not lost a husband or a child, I felt that I was friends with Joy. I felt as well, that I worked beside her as she mentored and ministered to her charges. And when she longed for Grant and took flowers to his grave, I ached for her. O’Dell was so patient, so loving, so there for her when she needed him I was wishing I could encourage her. Those that were with her at the Palmer House were also real, and I made friends with them as well. A gentle romance story with a subtle Christian thread running through it that I know I would have loved as a teenager as well as I do now.

Snow Angels

Truthfully? I did not like Lisa. I did not like her condescending attitude to those that were not the same as she was. I loved how Pete played along with her, though I would have been beyond embarrassed at the way things turned out. I think Cathe did a great job of showing how Lisa changed, and the storyline was great. I just felt bad for Pete and his friends throughout the story. I think maybe the reason I feel so much this way is because I see this so much in the way I was raised, and am trying to leave.

Trip The Light

This story was a refreshing humorous look at someone who was so determined to win a promotion that all else seemed to fade into the background. I did keep looking for a romance to be happening, but it never did! The mystery of wondering how he would accomplish his goal when it seemed everything was going wrong for him kept me turning the pages.

Christmas Stalkings

This was also a fun mystery. Who was causing Wendy all this grief? I was quite put out with whoever was going into her house when that person started with her kitties. I am an animal lover (though really, dogs are more my joy) and as more and more things caused Wendy to become fearful, I worried with her. The ending was a surprise to me, which caused me to love the story even more!

Thank you to Sandra Barela of CelebrateLit for the opportunity to read this eBook. I received a free eBook from her. A positive review was not required. The opinions are my own.

Let me start by saying, I enjoyed reading all four stories. I am not familiar with any of the authors and had no idea what to expect. I am going to be completely honest with you, it took more pages than usual for me to get into one of the books because I'm not used to reading books in that genre. Exactly why I pushed myself to read it . . . for something new and beautiful.
Heart of Joy is such a beautiful story about a woman who is trying to live her life after a heartbreaking tragedy. Joy struggles with moving forward after a devastating loss. Is it right to love again? I found her inner thoughts about Mr. O'Dell hilarious. Who knew Historical fiction could be funny. LOL There were quite a few times I found myself clutching my chest. I don't want to give a lot of detail, but tissue is a must. Thank you, Ms. Kestell. For helping me discover something new and beautiful.
Snow Angels is a story about Lisa, an introvert who is looking forward to 6 weeks of vacation after a, lets say, peculiar experience feeding the less fortunate on Thanksgiving. Amazing what we can learn about ourselves when we help others and vice versa. Ms. Swanson created a great mixture of Bible principles and humor, which to me, is an excellent way to make lessons stick.
Trip the Light Fantastic: God never promised us an easy life and you never know what may come out of a situation. Ms. Hayman does a great job of keeping the reader interested with lots of humor, Trip, Landry, and the other characters along with a great storyline.
Christmas Stalkings: This story made me laugh out loud many times. I absolutely loved Wendy and all her cats. (I think she lives across the street from me. LOL) I appreciated her honest thoughts even though they weren't perfect. And the quirky neighbors were an added bonus. I was drawn into the story and felt just as desperate as Wendy, who has a hard time convincing the police that something fishy was going on. Awesome story, Ms. Havig.
I give this collection 5 stars. The stories are totally different, but the love of God is in each and every one of them. Must read. You won't be disappointed.

“Christmas Lights” is four novellas about Christmas by four different authors.

These four stories made this reader experience sadness and joy and laughter and a little bit of pity for some of the characters in these stories.

These stories have romance and Christmas as the common theme. But the stories are each different. Each story is also about a character missing someone that they have lost.

I think the titles all described the stories pretty accurately.

I enjoyed each of these four novellas but my favorite is a tie between “Snow Angels”and “The Heart Of Joy”

“Snow Angels” is a story about how first impressions are often wrong!

I hadn’t read anything by Vikki Kestell and Cathe Swanson’s and April Hayman before reading this collection but after reading these stories I will be reading more by these authors.

I had read books by Chautona Havig and enjoyed them and “Christmas Stalkings” was just as enjoyable. I loved her Christmas trees for each of her cats, Yes, “Christmas Stalkings” is for readers that likes mysteries and cats.

“Trip the Light Fantastic” was a fun read for me, not that the story was funny, but that “Trip” reminded me of me as he was accident prone.

“The Heart Of Joy” is a spin off story from Vikki Kestell’s Prairie Heritage series and features one of her most beloved characters, Joy Thoresen, from book three, Joy on This Mountain. After three years of widowhood, Joy mourns not only the loss of her husband but the child someone has kidnapped as well. Only her faith sustains her through difficult days. (The above is from Guest Post from the Author but I wanted to include it so that anyone not reading this review from my blog will know that is from a series ). This story is about how the morning turn sorrow into joy ( yes a play on words from a song I did that intentionally.)

I have given “Christmas Lights” five stars.

I was given a complimentary copy by the authors and Celebrate Lit. These opinions are my own.

"The Heart of Joy" by Vikki Kestell:
I felt a little lost as to what was going on with Joy's missing son, but discovered that Joy was introduced in a book called "Joy on This Mountain", so I am guessing I would have known what happened if I had read it first. I liked Joy and Edmund and their desire to follow God's leading. The story didn't flow as well as some for me.

"Snow Angels" by Cathe Swanson:
I enjoyed reading this story. I was a bit confused at first when Lisa mentions Lee as I had no idea who he was. There was a nice Christian thread running through the story and Lisa, in particular, grows a lot from the beginning of the story. It was interesting to read about the ministries offered at the community center in the book.

"Trip the Light Fantastic" by April Hayman:
This story wasn't what I expected in that it wasn't a romance. It had moments that made me think of the old Laurel and Hardy movies with Trip's clumsiness. There is a small hint of romance towards the end of the book, but that is not the main emphasis. I'm not sure what genre I'd classify this story. I liked Trip and was glad that he found the peace he was looking for.

"Christmas Stalkings" by Chautona Havig:

I think this was my favorite story in the book. I understood Neal's behavior almost right away, but wasn't 100% about who Wendy's home invader was, although I had a little bit of an inkling. I'm not really a "cat person", but I enjoyed Wendy and her interactions with her feline friends. I'm glad to know that there is a "sequel" to finish the rest of the story. I have a feeling it will have more romance in it.

I have not read anything from any of these authors and it is always fun to find new authors. I also like collections of novellas as you can read them faster if you don't have as much time.

I got a free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and given voluntarily. No compensation was received.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
Christmas Lights is a collection of four wonderful Christmas novella’s. I love this book! The stories are awesome! The characters are fun! Here is a list of the stories, and their author.
The Heart of Joy by Vikki Kestell. This story is part of  Prairie Heritage Series. This is Joy and O’Dell’s story, and though it was obvious this is a story in a series, this was a great story. These two characters had faced a pretty sad past, but through patience and waiting on the Lord, their lives were greatly changed.
Snow Angels by Cathe Swanson is part of Great Lakes Series. Lisa and Pete are special characters that truly shows how to love and care for others. I really enjoyed the humor throughout the story. Another wonderful Christmas Story.
Trip the Light Fantastic by April Hayman kept me laughing throughout the story. The bit of suspense with FBI agent Trip, and the twists and turns this story brings kept me reading. I read this one in one setting.
Christmas Stalkings by Chautona Havig is another fun and oh so hilarious story that I thoroughly enjoyed. I loved all of the Christmas trees, and the details in decorating them.
All of these authors are new for me, and it is always exciting for me when I find new authors. I will be checking out the other books by these wonderful authors. I also enjoyed the Biblical truths and principles taught throughout each of these stories. This is definitely a book everyone will enjoy during the Christmas holiday’s.

I am glad to have the opportunity to read this delightfully diverse Christmas novella collection! These are heart-warming, inspiring, intriguing, humorous and well written stories; each one quite different from the other.

Book One (The Heart of Joy, Vikki Kestel) – Impeccably written and I was immediately drawn into and mesmerized by the story. Thoroughly inspiring message of abiding faith and love despite pain and loss. Redemption. Engrossing. Beautiful. Inspiring. Want much more from this author – she is a truly gifted writer!

Book Two (Snow Angels, Cathe Swanson) This smooth writing pulls you right into the story and the characters immediately engage the reader. Such a sweet, sweet story. Deep characters, strong storyline, unique and meaningful. Something everyone should read and ponder their own motivations, reactions, biases and judgments.

Book Three (Trip the Light Fantastic, April Hayman) Initially I was confused by the two seemingly separate storylines but it all came together beautifully with a very satisfying ending indeed! My husband could relate to poor Trip as he was being schooled in the important differences between a pillow sham and a pillow case. Interesting characters with an intriguing plot twist!

Book Four (Christmas Stalkings, Chautona Havig) Learned a great new word = superfluity. An unusual Christmas story with interesting details and development that pulls you right in. I couldn’t put it down until the mysteries were solved! A must-read for both cat and Christmas tree lovers!

(I am a member of both Cathe Swanson and Chautona Havig's "Street Teams". With that in mind, I am choosing to review this 4-book Christmas "box")

Sure, it's easy to review work from authors you are familiar with. I've been connected with Chautona for a while, and Cathe not so long. I loved Chautona's addition to the box. "Christmas Stalkings" is a bit of a departure but a welcome story that fits the season about making assumptions." Snow Angels" is also a little about assuming things but all working out in the end.

When I started Vicki Kestell's contribution "A Heart of Joy", I'd never read her work before. However, Christian Historical Fiction always intrigues and I was pleasently surprized that Joy, who had been through so much alluded to could find that God had different plans. And then, the final of the quartet, "Trip the Light Fantastic" by April Hayman...this one started really slow and I felt it dragged. I was really angry at how Lance treated people, and hid "grinchiness", especially with Wendy, his work partner was a tough read. As I continued, I saw what God can do in the most uncomfortable of places and in the end, my heart just embraced the whole motley crew.

Yes, this box deserves praise and contemplation and a well deserved five stars. It would be a marvelius gift for youself or for others. Highly recommended

Like most of us, I love Christmas time! I have things I don't like about the season anymore, but this book isn't one of them. This book is a collection of four stories, each one light and happy in it's own way. I hadn't read any of Vikki Kestell's series that this story is based off of, but I found it moving and sweet. I also hadn't read Cathe Swanson's work before. I would have sobbed my way through that story had she not used humor, simply because this topic melts my heart. I have deal with some things, and I have friends who are Vets with PTSD as well. I have watched what it does. She worked wonders in making Snow Angles a melt your heart and be moving at the same time.

April Hayman's Trip The Light Fantastic had me at the title, and the state it is set in, Mississippi. It was a really fun read! Yes, I'm interested in more of her books for sure! The last book in this collection, Christmas Stalkings was so much fun as well. I hope the author is doing amazing things with the next book in this series as well. This diverse but yet fitting collection of books read so quickly I was surprised when it ended. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a good set of Christmas reads.

My copy came from Celebrate Lit. I was not required to leave a review, I do so of my own volition. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a set of 4 novellas. There is The Heart of Joy by Vikki Kestell. This one is historical and takes place at the Palmer House in Denver, Colorado. Joy has to decide if she is ready to find a new love since her husband died. Joy must decide if O'Dell is the new man for her. This is a good romance.
The second novella is Snow Angels by Cathe Swanson. There are many misunderstandings between Lisa and Pete when she is roped into serving Thanksgiving dinner at the local community center. Lisa and Pete have a few adventures once they meet. This is also a good romance. Both Lisa and Pete learn some valuable lessons.
The third novella is Trip the Light Fantastic by April Hayman. I think this was my favorite of the 4. Trip, an FBI agent is sent to find an elusive conman right before Christmas. Trip finds Landry the conman but nothing quite goes the way he thought it would. This one had great characters and was a fun book. I did not want to put this one down.
The fourth novella is Christmas Stalkings by Chautona Havig. This was such a cute story. There is just a bit of intrigue and a little romance. I love the cats and the Christmas trees. You keep hoping that Wendy is not going crazy throughout this story.
I received this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion.
