This was a wonderful adaptation for young readers with text that doesn’t insult their budding intelligence (cheers Wendi Lowery!) and just enough pictures (great artwork too, cheers Greg Becker!) to keep them engaged. I read this to my 2 and 4 year olds and they both loved it. My 2 year old got excited at bedtime every night and would chant “Peter Pan! Peter Pan!” until we read our nightly chapter.
I didn't know this was a condensed version made for children when I picked this up. It still gave me a pretty good idea of the story though. Pretty whatever, I've never really liked the classics so idk why I was expecting to adore this. One of my favorite booktubers, MyonnaReads, said this was her all-time favorite classic and that she loved it so I thought 'eh what the hell' and read it too. Maybe it's been a long time since I saw the Disney version but I don't remember Wendy being dubbed everyone's mother? literally everyone in this book told Wendy that she -a child- had to be their new mommy?? even captain hook was like 'mmm yeah ur mommy'. ?!!!?? ur a grown man ew she's like 12. whatever I guess. Its possible ill like the unedited original version of Peter Pan but not right now. I need a while to forget how much I dislike classics before I pick one up again. lol. It was a very quick read, like 2 hours max
I hope one day to read the full version but for now all I could get is this lovely shortened edition but I loved it all the same Peter was something else and Windy held her growned well. I normally only annotate books I think will be five stars and of course me having an obsession with every Peter Pan movie I've ever seen which is literally all of them I made it a point to XD. I knew I'd love the book. The lost boys were adorable and Tinker Bell was mischievous but caring towards everyone except of course Wendy Darling. The writing set the mood even more which I was happy to see. It was so fun to read and made me smile through the whole thing truthfully. I will forever be in love with Neverland and the amazing Peter Pan. <3
