Up until the Revolutionary War this was a very good book detailing the advances in weapons and their influence on combat beginning with stone tools. Unfortunately, from that point on it became very American-centric to the point where advances from other countries were ignored. The final chapter on the Iraq War came across as a political diatribe. Ultimately I was very disappointed.

There's an anecdote in a side box about one of the very first snipers (during the American war of independence) that is a must read.
