Stuart Jaffe is the madman behind The Max Porter Paranormal Mysteries, the Nathan K thrillers, The Parallel Society series, and a fellow North Carolinian author.

Stuart's unique brand of pulp adventure mixed with a contemporary sensibility brings out the best in a variety of SF sub-genres. Kobo (second edition): 9781386569589 (Epub 2 - DRM Free, 322 pages)

A fine, though complex mystery set in the early years of a colony on a new planet, Verde. The colonists arrive to find that the pre-landing terraforming programme is incomplete, so it's even harder than had been expected to make progress. Nevertheless, and in spite of rumours of a Monster making off with colonists a settlement has become established, using materials from the colony ship. Five years after Landing Day and Candice Hill is feeling unwell - and seems to be being chased by mysterious Men In White...

That;s the start - and the narrative follows what happens as Candice's Family members (unrelated people have been allocated to family groups to encourage support away from the wider connections of relatives and friends back on Earth) try to find out what has happened to her... The truth that emerges is even more shocking than can be imagined.

Excellent!

I received a signed copy of the book through a Kickstarter by Silence in the Library. A great way to support authors and discover new work.

I like this book a lot. Take an Earth that is decaying. Add a trillionaire who funds several colony ships to a new planet. No warp speed here - in stasis for hundreds of years. But not the best/brightest go. It is the desperate, the downtrodden looking for a fresh start. And they get that fresh start. But not without a few bumps.

Each of the characters have a back story that unfolds in flashbacks along with way. Truth has consequences. It is a neat sci-fi story that peers into human needs and faults.

My only gripe is the book needs another round of editing. Missing modifier words or misspellings of same sounding words (break vs. brake). There was also a place where there was a big inconsistency with time. At the beginning of the scene it was said it would take hours to reach their destination. Then a couple pages later it says they arrived in 10 minutes. Nothing a polishing pass couldn't easily deal with, but it did make me stop and go back to understand the inconsistency.

This a great sci-fi book that should be read by fans of the genre.

Be Prepared! This sci-fi book by Stuart Jaffee will surprise you at almost every page turn. No way can you predict what happens, as a group of humans leave earth to settle a planet light-years away. This book has everything in it. Love, hate, thrills, chills, war, high-tech and wonder plus more. The ending is astounding. I highly recommend this book. It is one of the best sci-fi books I have read. It's not a fluff read. You have to pay attention to figure out what is happening. I had to go back and read parts over to fully understand what was going on. I couldn't put it down. Don't miss out on one of the best reads out there. I can't wait for the next one Jaffee puts out!!

Founders plays out the realities of human nature. The good as well as the bad, and the bad is some of the worse. The main characters face problem after problem that keep getting more and more out of hand. Who to trust, who is the puppet, who is the puppet-master? Who are the men-in-white?

Stuart Jaffe has written an intriguing tale of life in a colony far from the planet Earth that shows the true nature of mankind.
