Turning Point by Laurel Mouritsen.

This is a great book for young adults and teens. The main issue in the book is that Savannah the main character goes through a lot of trial in her life but can over come them. She is a great example for all teens and young adults to follow after.
Turning Point takes place in Nauvoo. In Nauvoo it takes place in a hospital, the weeks home, LDS temple grounds, church historical sites, Bridger's job site and the art shop. These places really add to the story, without some of these locations there wouldn't really be a story.
The main characters in this story are very important. They are Savannah, Carly, Bridger, Jaden, James, Mckell, LDS missionaries, and the other girls staying at the weeks home. The antagonists in this book are Jaden and James. Jaden is Savannah's boyfriend when the accident happens. James is Bridger's boss of the construction going on in Nauvoo. The protagonists are the rest of the characters are protagonists.
The short summary of the book the Turning Point starts on a road trip. Savannah and Carly decide that they want to take a road trip. They bring their bikes so that they can ride on the country roads and watch the view. While riding their bikes Savannah gets hit by a car. She falls off her bike and has severe head injuries and other injuries. She is rushed to the hospital. Carly stays with her to make sure that she is going to be okay. Once Savannah is doing better she gets a visit from Bridger who was a passenger of the car who hit Savannah. He goes to see if Savannah is going to be okay. Bridger was not the only visitor that she got. She also got a visit from her boyfriend Jaden. Jaden stays for a couple days to stay with Savannah to make sure that she is going to be okay. One of the days that Jaden is there at the hospital Bridger shows up again. That makes Jaden very mad and jealous. Savannah gets released from the hospital. She decides that she wants to head into Nauvoo to see if there is anyway that they could fix her bike. While she is there she tries to get a hotel but none of the hotels are open until tourist season. She randomly runs into Bridger on the street. He helps her find a place where she can at least stay the night. They find a place called the weeks home with a couple of other girls staying there. She stays a couple days there with a girl Mckell and a couple other roommates. Mckell and Savannah decide that they are going to stay the summer. They both get jobs doing what they like in Nauvoo. Savannah gets introduced to the LDS church. She doesn't know what to think of it. Her and Bridger spend a lot of time together. Savannah gets stalked by a car for a couple of days. Savannah goes to help Bridger find out if his boss is lying to him about something. She is on watch and Jaden her stalker shows up and tries to shoot Mckell and Bridger. He takes Savannah and shoves her in his trunk. She finds a way out and hears the gun go off. She finds out no one has been shot. They call the police and get Jaden taken care of. Savannah gets into family history and starts taking the LDS missionary discussions from the missionaries. Eventually decides to get baptized as a member of the LDS church. Bridger proposes to Savannah and they get married and live happily ever after.
I liked this book because it took place in Nauvoo and I have always wanted to travel there. Turning Point also shows that if you believe in having faith that miracles do happen. Two quotes from the book that help back up why I liked the book. On page 11 " you have an opportunity to do a great work among these people... Be faithful to your trust" Then on page 168 "Savannah Marie grasp the handle and raise the floor of the trunk... find the handle Savannah Marie." These two quotes show how Savannah had to believe in order to get out of Jaden's car and to do family history work.
The theme of this book is: Miracles do happen you just have to believe. When one door closes in your life you have to look at the one that has just been opened for you.
I recommend this book to anyone who is going through any type of trial because Savannah shows that you can make it through any trial no matter how hard it is. The unique thing about this book is that it takes place in Nauvoo. It relates to the pioneers and family history. I rate this book a 5 star.

Turning Point (not 'The' Turning Point as listed above) is a great read. Laurel Mouritsen has written several LDS books but this is the only one of hers I've read. It fits the romantic intrigue genre that I like. Its a great conversion story told in all the right ways for all the right reasons. Most of her other ones I believe are written in earlier times but this one is a modern day romance. If you are looking for an enjoyable, well-written conversion story with all the right things in all the right places, I think you'll like it.

A recent college graduate goes on a bicycle road trip with her friend. She is hit by a car and hospitalized in Keokuk, Iowa (near Nauvoo.) She has an out-of-body experience in which she meets a woman, who leter keeps appearing to her. Apparently she has made a promise to this woman. Because of the influence of a handsome Mormon guy, and the Nauvoo influence, she ends up joining the Church and finds out who the mystery woman is.

Following a miracle survival after being hit head on by a car while riding her bike, Savanah is persuaded to stay in Nauvoo for the summer. Four amazing LDS roommates and Bridger Caldwell spark her interest in the LDS Church. The ultimate conversion tool, besides the Book of Mormon, is reading one of her ancestor's journals that her mother sends to her. I do have to say this, "YEY SISTER MISSIONARIES!"

I really liked this book. It talked a lot about ancestors and temple work and didn't ahve feel of being "too preachy" as some church books are.
