First off, I must confess that Oliver has some of the best cover models and for this book, she's outdone herself. Le sigh.
I digress. So, I didn't love this story. Why?
It's got a really nice premise and a nice cast of characters. Moreover, individually, Eliot and Rafe, our protagonists, were extremely likable.
I'll tell you what didn't work for me.
1. The book was less than 300 pages with double or triple spacing; so, if it had been single spaced, we would have less than 200 pages. Even for Oliver, who is a gifted writer, that was too short to have a proper story arc. I like to know my book characters. I want to hear their inner musings and feel their emotions. And that wasn't possible. Plus we had all these other characters who did nothing but subtract from the time our protags ought to have spent with each other.
2. There was so much dialogue. Perfectly written dialogue, but blimey, it was too much. These 2 just talked and talked. As did each and every support cast. Again, this detracted from the plot and deprived us of getting inside the heads of the MCs. A longer book could have accommodated the constant dialogue but not one that was this short.
3. Oliver might have just written one of the strongest book heroines ever. Eliot was studying Biology in college, worked 2 jobs to support her mom and sister and was selfless and kind to boot. Yet, the overarching impression the author gave the readers was that Eliot was sorely lacking in self-confidence as well as being a push over. That didn't quite work for me.
4. Lastly, I wanted, no, needed more time with Rafe and Eliot besides the 6 weeks spent on the set of the Bachelor. I needed to see them grow closer and to feel their love blossom but alas, all we get is a couple more chapters and even more dialogue with other people.
Overall, this wasn't for me but please don't let my opinion deter you from checking this out.
