This book is about a young adult named Kallie. She is having a hard time at work because her boss is not very kind. She decides to take a lunch break in the peaceful Salt Lake City cemetery where Brigham Young is buried. There, she sees encounters an old man with a timepiece and a key. Suddenly she is whisked away back into the 19th century, with a pioneer family who claims she is part of their family. To have a change of heart, first, try to calm yourself down. Next, be surrounded by different things. Last, meet new people and look at a different point of view. In The Passage Way, Kallie Garret goes on a walk, then gets put into a different situation completely. Then she creates new relationships with people that helped her see things differently and have a change of heart. I really liked this book because the whole thing had me going, "How is she going to get back? Will she ever see Caleb again!?" All the characters were different and I liked all of them. I haven't read a lot of books like this so I think it was unique. Overall it was a great book and I loved it!
The beginning of the book felt angsty and cheesy to me I thought for sure I would not like it. So much so it took me weeks to read more than the first few chapters. But i actually really enjoyed this book! The description of their clothes, and bottling fruit, making candles, or working on the farm was so intriguing to me. And Kate and Caleb’s story was very sweet.
I first read this book when I was a teenager and loved it. I just read it again, and I really enjoyed reading it this time as well. I love how it gives so much of the Utah history and the different perspective about the Utah War and the pioneers and polygamy they practiced. Good book and an easy read.
I liked the concept of the book and the characters, but I got tired of all of the extreme detail about pioneer life. I really do not need a three paragraph description of the matress she slept on. And while the stories shared in the book were interesting, the way they were written just didn't hold my attention that well.
I read this book in one sitting. It's well written and has a clever story line. The book would probably be more interesting to an LDS audience because of the autor's intended references to LDS history and her effort to have the main character learn some "important lessons" about life. It does have a nice, happy ending - which I tend to like.
This was the first of her books that I ever read. It was given to me as a gift and I loved it. It has a fun time travel twist that allows you to see how pioneers lived and how it would affect us today. I totally recommend it.
If I'd found myself back in time, I'd probably be kicking and screaming to get back home. Kallie seems to fit right into place as Katherine Walker. Just as she falls in love with Caleb Hollister, time shifts back. With increased faith, Kallie is strong enough to change her future.
