The compelling story of the Kade family continues, written by a master story teller. Danger and intrigue mount as the Kade's’ son, James, strives to shield the Prophet Joseph from assassination. Join the Kades in all the color and pageantry, intrigue and suspense, of old Nauvoo. Its legacy as a place of promise will stir your heart and kindle an excitement in church history.
As you can tell I am a slow reader. I had to renew the book 3 times. Not the books fault though, I am just very busy. I am loving the series though. The first book was told with Christian and Lydia Kade as the narrators, this one is told by the children, Elizabeth and James. They both encounter things that weigh on their mind and try their testimony of the gospel. At the end of the book Joseph and Hyrum have been murdered. Brigham Young is not yet the official prophet or president of the church, but he is the spokesman and suggested very strongly that the saints pack up and leave Nauvoo. Some followed his counsel and others did not. I just started book 3 and it picks up with the Kade family and many others pushing and pulling wagons and carts across the prairie in search of the perfect place in the west. I am excited to see how the author narrates this book and what happens on their journey. Also their daughter Elizabeth decides to stay in Nauvoo, so I am interested in following her story as well.
Not as good as the first book in the series but still interesting. It is very fast moving and again, not very well written. A LOT of redundancies. I read in about 3-4 days
I really like this series. This book was about the Kade family while living in Nauvoo. It centered mainly around the 2 older Kade children and their experiences while living there. Of course we know that once again those against the church destroyed any peace the early saints had and they were driven out. They are heading west this time.
An interesting continuing saga about a Mormon family. Reveals parts of our American history that I wasn't really aware of. Exposes hatred toward a religious group. It is alarming to learn that there were plans to exterminate the Mormon people if they would not leave Nauvoo, Illinois. Not one of our finer moments in American history. The mass movement across the country is about to begin and families are being torn apart.
Interesting historical saga of the kade family and the Mormon faith. Lots of American history in these novels and the discrimination brought on to this particular religious sect.
I enjoyed the book, but I liked the first volume more. However I’ll continue to read the saga! Can’t wait to see what happens next with the Kade family!
I enjoyed this one! The only thing that kind of got on my nerves was Elizabeths seemingly pointless dislike for Christian. I know she has all those mixed feelings about her Mother remarrying Christian and how she misses her biological Father but it sometimes did not feel believable. She was just so young when he died that I feel like it could have been so easily resolved if she would have just spoken with Lydia and gotten to know more about him.
