He will be lord of his own solar system, but he can’t claim the homeworld until he takes a bride. He needs the right mate to win his mating rings, but choosing one female from among the neighboring systems while slighting the others could start an interstellar incident—and this ex-mercenary starship captain has finally had enough of war. Where in the universe can a runaway cyborg prince find a naïve female willing to risk her life on the dangerous frontiers of space?
I grew up reading SFF, buying the biggest books I could with my chore money. While I loved the action, adventure, and exciting worlds, most of those stories were missing…kissing! Now I read and write paranormal romance and science fiction romance which I think mix the best of all worlds. I also write urban fantasy romance as Jessa Slade and sexy contemporary romance as Jenna Dales.
I spend most of my time at my computer thinking about stories, in my garden thinking about stories, or walking my dog thinking about stories. Hmm, I think there’s a theme… 🙂
Three and a half My first book by this author but I can see that she clearly has a good imagination and more stories to tell. This took an unexpected turn as when Sin turned up collect his ‘bride’ she had absolutely no idea what on Earth he was talking about. Turns out someone else has applied to find their perfect match which leaves Sin in rather a quandary. Zoe is someone who has been through a lot and physically she is still having issues but that doesn’t stop her from standing up to Sin, I liked this juxtaposition as even when fragile Zoe could be strong. So if I liked it why not a higher rating? Well actually in spite of obvious and physical differences at times Sin just didn’t strike me as particularly alien ! He’s possibly a lot nicer than I wanted , his manner is sweet and even his crew whilst admittedly physically very different to humans just felt very ordinary. I think I must prefer the more dominant types that often appear in alien romance but I do hasten to reassure my fellow readers that this was an entertaining book and one I would recommend.
I really liked the Hero, his alien-ness was so interesting in that he absorbs the metals of his homeworld into his body. And when he finds his fated mated, he gets metal rings as a manifestation of the match. I didn’t like the heroine so much but I guess I understood her reluctance to go right away with the Hero as she didn’t sign up for a dating agency and she had no idea what he was talking about. I wanted more smexy times too.
I'm quite impressed with this book. First-time author for me and I'll be sure to read more.
I found it by looking into the Intergalactic Dating Agency series...this is book #3 but the 1st one by Elsa Jade.
Loved the concept of the mating rings and Sin's spaceship crew was reminiscent of Guardians of the Galaxy. Zoe was not a typical heroine...she's got some substance to her and some physical injuries that still plague her.
I’ve got to admit, I’m sure the later novels are better since this appears from other reviews to be a debut novel. However, I struggled to enjoy the story (not in the “it was bad” but in the “it made me sleepy” way), especially when they were on the ship.
In an engaging mashup, Elsa Jade weaves in shifters, and cyborgs, two other hugely popular tropes. The result is the LOL antics of the couples paired by the Intergalactic Dating Agency -- where Tinder and Match.Com meet spaceships and blasters.
With space opera-esque good vs evil to leaven the romance, these books are fast paced, and relatively short at ~ 150-170 pages. To borrow from fellow author Rachel Chanticleer, these types of books are 'cotton-candy reads'. Sweet and satisfying but not particularly substantial. All the more fun for being a guilty pleasure.
*Note - my original review was meant for After Burn- the covers are similar.
The matriarch of the clan has bequeathed Sin, the fifth son of a fourth son of an eighth son, a solar system. The only condition to claim said solar system is that he gets a bride. And the easiest way to get a bride is to ask the Intergalactic Dating Agency for help.
Even before they reach Earth, Sin gets the good news. They found his match. And she's perfect for him...But when he goes to meet her, and take her with him onto his spaceship, he realizes Zoe has no idea what he's talking about. And she has no intention of being his bride. She has no intention of even dating him, least of all mating him.
So Sin does the gentleman-y thing (probably for the first time in his life) and leaves. But there's one peculiar thing about a fated match: you don't mess with Fate.
I loved this story. Loved it to bits. It had it all. Sexy hunk of a hero, a spunky heroine, sweet and hot romance, alien tech, fraternal rivalry and a little bit of suspense-driven damsel-in-distress-ing.
There weren't as many faux pas due to cultural differences and language barriers as in the previous two stories, and I must say it worked very well without that (unnecessary) repetition. The two leads were awesome, their first encounter funny, and their budding romance cute and sweet as heck, until it went hot. Really hot. Sin was a sweetheart with a merc mentality, but a heart of gold and a code of honor that knocked that merc-mentality out cold when the moment called for it. Zoe was your typical non-believer Earthling, but with a solid head on her shoulders and a sharp mind that didn't let her be blind or in denial for too long. She had her issues (thanks to the brick to the head incident) that held her back for the duration of the story, but it didn't make her whiny or idiotic. She actually came through as pragmatic and a realist, which is a breath of fresh air in a romance. Especially one involving drop-dead gorgeous aliens. ;) The supporting cast didn't have much of a role, except to propel the story forward with nicely-timed explanations or expository scenes; I still loved Sin's two crew mates, Honey and Ivan, though. I hope their stories are the two remaining ones in this mini series, because I'd love to see more of them.
I loved the narrative style and voice, the pacing was spot-on (maybe the whole thing dragged a little in the second half, during the "suspense" part, but I didn't mind, since I knew the ending was near), the characters were rather well fleshed-out, and the premise worked well. Overall, a great story.
I swear if I read the words brick, merc, or the phrase high and mighty one more time, I'm going to start throwing things. It seems like the author just grabbed on to these three things and couldn't let them go. Seriously, the first time I read that Zoe got hit with a brick, I got it. I didn't need the idea revisted every three pages. And, yup, I also got that Sin was a former mercenary. He didn't need to have his every decision or action referred to as merc-like. And the way Zoe uses high and mighty to describe Sin? Honestly doesn't make sense half the time. Context is important!
I thought the idea of the book was good, but just too much was lost in the execution. Ideas that weren't complex were given so much time (stupid brick, I don't care about you!), and things that could actually be good were brushed past. Like why does Sin wipe Zoe's memory without asking? She turned him down once at the beginning of the book, and then he just continues to believe she would never agree to be with him without ever asking her again. It makes no sense. And suddenly his brother shows up? He apparently wants to steal Sin's solar system, but I'm still unclear how that would work. Wouldn't Sin's grandma find out that Sin didn't have it? That part of the book was just shoved in there with no rhyme or reason just to have some kind of fight scene at the end.
Honestly, I hated Zoe. She was a boring and annoying MC. Sin was ok, but not super interesting. Honey and Ivan were much better done, and I was looking forward to their books while I was stuck in the middle of this one. Hopefully, they'll be worth trying out.
I picked up this book as part of an anthology and loved it so much I immediately put the other three books in the series on my wishlist. Sin was...complicated. The galaxy he lived in was complex. I was already onboard with those two things and then he started...I don't know what you call it. He was fricking forming mating rings out of his body. Let's just say that was the thing that made me go from like to love with the story.
I enjoy a strong man who finds his special someone and ends up so completely smitten he can't back away no matter how much he might think he needs to. Admittedly, Sin gave it a good try. He was willing to risk his life to give Zoe her freedom. I dunno. I just liked the guy. He was surly and growly and he went all in when he needed to.
Zoe, on the other hand, was...fragile, for lack of a better word. She's recovering from a brain injury that's completely derailed the life she had planned. While she was never meant to get pulled into the weirdness of the Intergalactic Dating Agency, she's drawn to Sin. I guess I should mention that for all her fragility, Zoe's not weak. She's still trying to adjust to the injury and it's throwing her off her stride.
Bottom line, I was entertained by Zoe and Sin and was ALL OVER his random piercings that appeared. *thumbs up*
The hero and heroine were both very inconsistent. He's complaining there was a mix up and she opened up his dating profile by accident. She doesn't know aliens exist. Yet he sleeps with her anyway.
A different sort of alien/cyborg type of story that I haven’t read before. It held my attention, but something felt a little off to me, that I can’t put my finger on what that is. The flow was smooth. The world building was alright, could have been a little better. There were a few places, I felt like Déjàvu or like I read snippets from another book at some point in the past year. I know I haven’t read this before though. I did like the Hero - Sinn, he was interesting, in need of some humbling with dealing with Earther women, or atleast Zoe. But the heroine, Zoe, was a bit off putting to me & not because of her problems recovering from a brain injury. It was worth a read, even if it could have used some smoothing out.
This story is well written but I found that I didn't like the heroine much, and because of that, I found her unworthy of the hero. Aside from sex and being true mates, I am not sure the hero could see likeable qualities in her. There just wasn't time. Only my opinion of course.
There were several typos, repeated words, and misplaced words. I felt the female protagonists was extremely boring, and super whiny, however I liked the other characters. The beginning of the book was a little confusing because it repeatedly referenced the past and trauma without any context. There is no cliffhanger but it does kind of lead into the next book.
Probably more like a 4.5, but I was entertained so I’m rounding up.
This was actually really quite good. I picked it up based on the title/series alone, expecting something super cheesy and totally cliched.
I kinda got that, but it was very well written and entertaining. The story was definitely in the specific genre, but the characters and setting were interesting, and frankly I just enjoyed it for what it was.
The only real issue I had was in the first few pages. There are a group of people on the bridge of a ship, 4-5 of them, and it was really confusing trying to keep up with who was talking, who was being described, etc. once I got past that, it was smooth sailing.
I really liked Zoe. She’d gone through some bad stuff (bad lite, nothing terrible or horrifying), but she’d healed herself up, was standing on her own, and was ready for an adventure, ready for something new.
She had some physical limitations from some injuries, and I liked that those weren’t just hand waved away. They were just part of her character and was something to be aware of, not a major plot point to agonize over. Gave her more depth.
Sin (yes, that’s his name), was for the most part built around the stereotypes you’d expect in this kind of book, but he also had some depth and while he had a commanding presence, he wasn’t an asshole and was self aware enough to joke about his “high and mighty” tendencies.
*3.5* Very cute and fun book. Not the usual kidnapped/rape vibe of alien books. The banter between the love interests is amazing
“Follow me.” Though there was no way she was strong enough to lift him, he stood so quickly she felt as if she’d levitated him from the couch. “Anywhere.”
“I haven’t shaved since it got too cold to wear shorts,” she said in the hurried voice of an apology. “If I’d know you were coming…” He wasn’t sure why she was apologizing. “Never shave again.”
I especially love this one👆🏻women’s natural bodies shouldn’t be so shamed.
Of course, not super probable and very fast paced. Also it took me awhile to catch on to the style of writing. I think I’m a pretty good reader but there were parts where I was really struggling. Lots of alien words where the meaning wasn’t obvious. But I’m just here for the love/sex, so my brain just skips over the pets I don’t understand.
I hated the epilogue. I feel like a epilogue should usually be used in the future and show with a couple slices like then. This epilogue was literally probably hours or a day after the event to the book. I get it was probably to start from spoiling future books, but it just felt unnecessary. Just make it it’s own chapter, not an epilogue.
The writing was kind of confusing... things are mentioned but don't get explained until much later, and that's annoying for me. For example, Delaney is mentioned in the third paragraph of the first chapter, and several times after that, and in chapter 3 we learn her last name is the same as the protagonist, but it's not until chapter 4 that we learn (in a kind of confusing way, I might add; I had to read the paragraph twice to get it) that she's Zoe's sister in law. Really, it's frustrating. Also, there are some things that didn't make much sense, The worldbuilding is decent, although there are some things that don't get fully explained. Some I expect to find them in the other books of the series, but others I'm pretty sure won't get explained ever. The Jaxian society isn't fully explained, and I doubt it will ever be.
For me this book landed somewhere between a 2.5 & a 3. Similar to other reviews I felt like this had a lot of potential and I still might be interested in finishing the others in the series… but we’ll see. I think the toughest part for me was so much was never explained. You can’t throw in brand new species with no explanation and that’s how this book felt to me. It never truly laid out the main character is 1/2 human 1/2 machine, it’s just implied but they never truly explain how all that works so it feels unfinished. Same with MMC’s crew mates. I think one is a version of a dragon? Or either the fire guy from fantastic 4, but it’s never explained so….. idk. I think the other closest crew mate is a version of an alien vampire… but again it’s never laid out for you. The story also felt rushed with the whole meet each other & fall in love in all of like 48 hours. Like this went from hate to love in under 48 hours and just felt too rushed for the “grand” emotions trying to be portrayed. It’s not a bad alien book, but it wasn’t great one.
First time reading from the author. I liked the book cover and the description. It pulled me into wanting to read the story. The first ten percent was a little slow, almost boring. It didn’t seem to introduce us much to the characters, as I would have liked. But we get to know them more as we keep reading. I thought the story gets better as the two meet. Sure she thinks he lost his marbles. The story even makes you smile in spots of the story. The pull of chemistry is there. Once they get to know each other a little, this helps to heat the chemistry between them up even more. The story turns out to be a nice read. Few bumps here and there but not walls to stop someone like me from reading, if into Sci Fi Romance.
Got for an honest review. Thank you for sharing your book with me.
Sin had traveled to Earth to find a mate so he could claim his land and settle down. Zoe found a cube on her way home from work It sprung open in her hand to reveal a message saying it was from the intergalactic dating agency and her match had been found. Only Zoe didn’t know that the cube was meant for her sister in law. Zoe hung onto it and the next day Sin met her and knew she was his match. They had a stormy relationship until his brother shows up then Sin has to protect her at all cost I’m not going to spoil it only to say it’s a good story.
Zoe was on her way home when she stumbled over (literally) a metal box. As she picked it up it said a few words which she ignored as she put it in her pocket. But it was too late. The box had imprinted on her and decided that she was a perfect match for its client. Sinclarion Jax, alien mercenary Captain, is advised that his match has been found and goes to meet her. Since Zoe had never signed up with IDA she thought that he was crazy when he told her to follow him to his ship and that they were mates! In fact they were perfectly matched but a lot has to happen before they realise it. A very pleasant read as expected from Elsa Jade!
Sin arrived to collect his mail-order bride only to find that the recipient (Zoe) has absolutely no idea what he is talking about (plus having had issues of her own in the past she is not going to give in to him and will be standing her ground. Can Sin win Zoe over, can he avoid causing an interstellar incident and stay hidden from the general human population of Earth and can he avoid a vengeful sibling?
This was a lovely story that had a well thought out storyline, a credible source of danger and a sweet ending at its conclusion. Very enjoyable and a nice easy read to get lost in. Well written and easy to read and understand.
This dating agency is inept, but manages to bumble the bride our captain is seeking into the correct match for him. I thought it was a good story and I enjoyed the characters. I like having a female lead who is not perfect and has issues. She is a strong character with some health problems due to an accident. The male lead is haughty and commanding until he meets his mate, then he does things differently. I liked the story. I enjoyed this book. I liked the characters and there was some story to the book. There were graphic sex scenes so not for younger audiences. I would recommend it.
4⭐️ I really enjoyed this book and the author’s way of storytelling. It just grabbed me and pulled me along for the ride. Both MCs were interesting in their own way and managed to surprise me along the way.
I have been lucky lately finding alien romances that have managed to positively surprise me by being different from the usual - abducted and insta lusted.
Here Sin is coming to Earth to pick up his mail order bride, expect the application has fallen in the wrong hands. Zoe never signed up to be an Interstellar Bride and has no idea aliens even exist. Chaos, one night stand and action follows when Sin’s brother comes to cause shit.
I really enjoyed this one it was short but sweet, and well written for a sci-fi romance! I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this novel, although there was one element I could not take seriously. The author was trying too hard to put "sin" in everything. I mean seriously, SINclarion jax, SINners prayer, SINgilt rings. There are 470 occurrences of sin in this book. Yes, it is in one of the mc's names. BUT If a character is named something recognizable and suggestive like Sin, I don't need to see the name in all the other words the author comes up with.
Alpha Star: Big Sky Alien Mail Order Brides#1 (Intergalactic Dating Agency) By Elsa Jade is filled with wonderful characters and their storyline. This whole series written by a combination of authors is a brilliant collaboration with their talented imaginations and writing styles. You're going to be thoroughly entertained and completely captivated by the characters and storylines. I'm recommending everybody enjoy this wonderfully enjoyable series.👏👏👏👏👏🔟🔟🔟🔟🔟🔟😘😍💟
The first book in the Big Sky Alien Mail Order Brides and the third in the Intergalactic Dating Agency series by Elsa Jade. Sinclarion Fifth-Moon Jax or Sin, as he is called has come to Earth to find his match. He applied for a bride through the Intergalactic Dating Agency and she is in Montana. Zoe found a strange cube and is going to turn it in to the lost and found. But Sin finds her and thinks she is his mate. But Zoe refuses so...
It was entertaining and I will probably read more by this author. Loved that we met a bunch of characters that apparently have a story too.
I really did enjoy this book. Its a quick read. This is about a cyborg prince who will be lord of his own solar system but he can't take claim until he marries. He has to find a girl who will be able to accept all his rings, and there are 5 rings, from among the neighboring systems. He finds the girl when he goes to a dating agency but ends up with the wrong one. She doesn't believe him at all. Quite the connumdrum. Lots of action and some passion but all in all a great story line. Recommend.
Sexy. Good escapism. Fast read. Predictable but that is part of its charm. A way to forget your circumstances and disappear into some fun. Could of been longer but it would of had to have more developed characters and story line and worlds. It did have some hot love scenes but they were very brief . But all in all an enjoyable read. Some of the scenes were awkwardly described and relationships were skimmed over . The order people were introduced was strange.
Not that I could do better. But this app won't let me post my review unless I leave a longer one.
