This book continues where book 4 leaves off where the protagonists are once again Dean, Jaz and their daughter sent from the future Joanna.
While waiting for a suitable planetary alignment for the witch coven to send Joanna back home, she and Dean help Jaz with the paperwork of her family's destroyed house and discover much to their dismay that a wooden box with three super dangerous jade idols was destroyed and they only recovered one of them. The other two were stolen by a construction worker.
Now, while the plot of this book is fun and more action vs medical than other volumes, this is just a huge plot whole screaming out loud. Why put a fragile wooden box with something super dangerous in a non fire resistant room of a super wealthy and powerful security company? The book never mentions why the three idols were stored together, whether the box was sealed in that specific way or it was "safer" to keep the 3 idols together rather than putting the three idols in 3 separate boxes and placing them in very far strung parts of the world. So yeah, this part of the plot made little sense.
Joanna is supposed to be a teenager and the dumb decisions I guess to a certain limit are supposed to be believable. The book doesn't focus too much on Joanna's mindset so we don't understand why she feels compelled to risk herself in such a dumb way not once, but twice in the book. So annoying! I also don't understand the whole scene of Joanna stealing an arrowhead from a museum which only diverts the story into now Joanna is wanted by the police and yet the arrowhead is never used once she gets it. Very inconsistent.
If you pardon those bloopers of the plot, it was still a fun read. 3 1/2 stars!
Jamie Davis’ The Paramedic's Witch (Extreme Medical Services Book 5) is yet another perfect continuation of this wonderful series and easily worth five stars. I love the whole concept of a paramedic who takes care of hidden supernatural creatures in his city is wonderfully original. Adding in teen witch Joanna (Fsmily name left out to prevent any spoiler effect) who comes from the future to help mom and dad is a wonderful plot twist. Really, this is yet again a book that provides just what I want, is well written, with excellent world building and a great plot full of magic and adventure. Add to that a lead and cast of supporting characters are perfectly crafted. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, with the caveat that while you could read this standalone you’re much better starting off from book 1 of the series.
Bottom line: this book is easy to highly recommend.
This is an amazing urban fantasy adventure series and or paranormal mystery adventure series. Great cast of characters and a unique and entertaining storyline. Dean Flynn is a paramedic in a special paramedic unit for unusual. Unusual are paranormal/supernatural beings living among us. He graduated the top of his class in paramedic school and was assigned to the EMSU unit. For a time he was dating a nurse who also happened to be an angel of healing. Their last adventure concert to go back to the higher plane for a time and met a paranormal hunter/demon hunter. In this book we see the relationship between Dean and this hunter Begin. That is all the spots you’re going to get because anything else I say will spoil it. Read on and see what evil is heading their way and what assistance and from who they are going to get it from. Can they stop it can they save the day. Well we shall see. Read on and find out.
You think your teenagers are hard to deal with, try having your teenage wiccan daughter sent back in time to help you with your quest to save your Angel girlfriend... Dean, an unusual paramedic, is neck deep in demons and other unusual when he learns his daughter can't be sent back until a demon is killed. Not to mention his supposed future wife and mother of his child is a hunter who doesn't even like him, yet. Talk about back to the future and missteps, danger, confusion, and problems. Can a paramedic fix this? Read and see!
STICK with iT. The SERIEs starts a little slow ..the author loves medical lingo which I love but others may take a bit to get into. Im not going to lie by the end of the First book I was on the fence about continuing the series. I started BOOK 2 of the Series ..first half started still very slow but by the end of 2nd Book the storyline started getting good..the books just got better and better as the series add another book. I will give the Whole SERIEs a solid 3.9🌟. 😍.
Family is everything and when you lose your own, you realize how important those you have are. Dean and Jaz work together to stop evil from taking over the city, with the help of Jo. They realize that they are all that's left of their families and so this case is everything, unfortunately it's dangerous.
Jaz is fighting to banish evil and protect her own Dean is discovering something about himself that know one seems to understand Jo is being a typical teenager who thinks she knows what's best.
Now they must work together and destroy evil before it destroys Elk City
When your plot line depends on a main character making a horrible mistake, going against years of training for some "time off" in the middle of an adventure, getting innocents killed, you have a problem. When your character then DOES IT AGAIN, going solo to "save the day" it's time to scrap the plot and rewrite the book. I am enjoying the series, all 4 star to now in spite of some lack of basic firearms research, and will continue reading, but this one almost had me tossing it aside and not finishing. Former FD/EMT so enjoying the parts done right!
I'm enjoying the Extreme Medical Services series. I find them to be well written and well edited. This book has been my favorite of the series!
There has been a somewhere predictable storyline but it's been done in ways that were very surprising. I like the way the healers don't choose and the way the "good guys" do everything they can to avoid hurting the "bad guys".
I would recommend this mostly clean series and am looking forward to the rest of the books!
Dean, jaz, and Jo must deal with the threat posed by a demon released from a idol who's inhabiting human form.plus dean discovers a ability he didn't know he had.bought this book early in the morning and read it by midday.liked jos interaction with her female werewolf friend whose part of Gibbie the vampire's group.
I have been reading this series and have found it enjoyable and fun. Highly recommend this series, really like the characters and interaction s between the various people. The unusual are some interesting characters, especially the chef, and Bobby and the stuff he always seems to get mixed up in.
Time-hopping teen daughter with parents who have not yet dated, never mind getting intimate. Never mind the trouble with the ancient vampire feuding with them, my mind boggles over the possibilities for overwrought melodramatic familial mayhem. Talk about a recipe for a truly dysfunctional family!
A bubbly witch a twisted weird family dynamic and Jaz growing into the story as more frequent character but far less of Byrne which was a shame. I hope she comes back at some point. Demons are the flavour of the day which was different but at the same sorts of challenges with plans unravelling. It is a very clever look at the older magic as well as the balance of evil and good. It drew me in. I love the characters and their interplay. I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.
Dean, Jaz and Jo have a rough time, seeming to be in the sights of some wicked demons. All three grow and learn better survival skills. The demons are scary. U191 is still hard at work treating some of the most interesting beings. I’m glad there’s another one, I’m not ready to say goodbye.
Dean, Jaz, and Jo have their work cut out for them when a demon lord finds a way into their world. And that is just the beginning. Their life is being interrupted by lesser demons and new vampires. They have to find some special figurines, track down demons, and basically save the world.
The destruction of the Errington compound caused mayhem in more than way. Not only the cost in human lives, but the destruction of safeguards for safely stored evil relics. Jaz is panicked to learn some of them are missing and the trio have to find them. It’s a matter of live and death. Excellent read.
I think I enjoyed this one the most. All of the characters are becoming more lifelike and less cardboard. The dialog is definitely improving although not natural yet. A few name problems but again that is editing. It wasn't bad enough to hamper my enjoyment.
Love how the author incorporates real life medical experiences into his fantasy world, it makes the stories come to life even more. Really like the fact that there is a medically trained team for the Unusuals working alongside humans. Really enjoyed this and didn't want to stop reading.
Have to admit, this book was boring. I'm not sure where does the main storyline about Dean's future family with Jaz, and Jo goes, but I was bored with this part. I was glad when Jo returned to the future.
This series really takes you for a ride. I mean that’s understandable when you are dealing with overwhelming personal issues along with life threatening real world problems. I’m looking forward to the next turn on this rollercoaster.
What's a head a demon partially summed. Wants to complete it's entering this world.
Dean has problems a daughter from the future and a teenager at that, a woman who is her mother but not very friendly with him. To top it all a Demon determined to enter and rule earth.
GREAT series - I have the 3-book Box Set's 1-3 & 4-6. I have these books thru CHIRP Audio Books. The narrator is easy on the ears. The stories suck you in and keep you interested to what happens to everyone. I'm looking forward to the next Box set (7-9).
Can I just copy what I've written for the last couple books? Good story and characters. I'm still reading the series so they must be at least fairly decent. Need to start the next book so I can see what happens to Dean next.
This was the book I expected before now. It was good, the story progressed but it wasn't up to par with what I expected. Read it, it was a good story, just not spectacular as the first 4. On to book 5.
