When Wyatt turns his back on the world—and her—Gillian knows he’s hurting and needs time to recover from whatever wounds were inflicted on his bear by the military. He reluctantly accepts her help as they flee from a secret group sent to eliminate the shifter-soldiers involved in a black-ops experiment, though he’s determined to maintain an emotional distance from her. But bears mate for life, and his human mate is just as stubborn as he is. Nothing could hurt her more than losing him, and she's just the one to help her wounded warrior move from the past and into the future—if they have a future…
Kit Fawkes is the pen name USA Today bestselling author Kit Tunstall uses when writing steamy paranormal (especially shifter) romances. It's simply a way to separate the myriad types of stories she writes so readers know what to expect with each "author."
Wyatt and Gillian got engaged when she was 18 because he had recognized her as his fated mate while they were in junior high school. After graduating HS, he joined the Army for 3 years. But he didn't come home. He had re-upped when he was recruited to a special program a secret part of the military that was trying to create super soldiers using shifters. A few years later (3? 5?) he comes home - with some serious PTSD. The program apparently left him out of control of his bear. So he goes up into the mountains, his brother the only person he tells. Eighteen months later, Gillian comes knocking at his door to tell him his old team mates were dying mysteriously, or disappearing. After some futile argument about whether or not she'll go with him, they take off together, with the agency, having now created super soldier 2.0, in pursuit. There are a couple of somewhat graphic sex scenes, as well as a couple scenes depicting violence. There are two very short flashes of attempted rape that didn't get far, and are non-descriptive so they shouldn't trigger anyone. Seriously, the violence those occurrences trigger is enough to take your attention away. I read this as part A Growling Good Time: Paranormal Romance Boxed set, and so far, it's the only one I have found worthwhile. The premise isn't exactly unique, but the plot hanging on it is riveting, and the characters have some depth. This story in the ebook is good in that Grammar and usage ate excellent, and I didn't notice any typos. I will provide individual reviews on GR of the books l like in the set, but do a blanket review on the whole set at Amazon (which should transfer over).
Quick shifter story of the US Military taking shifters and doing unspeakable experiments on them. The shifters like Wyatt want out , and think they have succeeded, but it's not long before the Military shows up with "super" soldiers made up of shifter DNA, computer bits and what used to be humans. Wyatt will do anything to save his mate, including turn himself over to them, especially since he's never forgiven himself for the atrocities he doesn't completely remember doing. But his mate refuses to allow it and she along with some unexpected friends show up and show him what's worth fighting for. Lots of action, some hot se, and the beginning of what I hope is a new series !! 4☆'s for Kit Fawkes and her Wounded Warriors . I recommend it to anyone lover of paranormal romance and/or military second chance stories. I received a gifted copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
I would rate this about 3.5 stars. I read this book in part of the box set of this series. I'm a little on the fence about this book.
I was annoyed and angry at first that Wyatt was leaving his mate, even after she stuck by his side all through his time in the military. But I could understand the version of PTSD he was experiencing and trying to control his beast. Gillian is determined to show Wyatt she'll be by his side no matter what. When she discovers he's being hunted she'll stop at nothing to warn Wyatt and help get him to safety.
I've read a variety of different military shifter books. But what I liked about this one is the variety of shifters that are involved as well as the trauma they experienced in the military.

Fast paced, a little seamy novella length story with a happy for now epilogue. This book has been re released as Hunted under the pen name Aurelia Skye
Title: Running Bear Author: Kit Fawkes Format: Audio Narrator: David Quimby Genre -romance, paranormal, shifter (bear), military, suspense Standalone: For the most part The couple’s story is complete but the overall storyline is still ongoing Part of a Series: Wounded Warriors Book 1 POV: Wyatt, Gillian Steam Level: Warm 4/5
Running Bear is a cute paranormal, shifter romance. It's light on steam (although there is some) and heavy on the suspense. Wyatt is running from himself and away from his mate to protect her. However, when his military team starts disappearing and dying mysteriously Gillian comes to find and warn him. The action and adventure, like this story, moves quick when they become the hunted. I’m intrigued on what’s to come in the larger story.
I received this audiobook for free from Free Audiobook Codes. This is my honest and voluntary review.
My first book from the author and I enjoyed it. Short but full of suspense, a few hawt scenes too, I think it is a great start to the series. Wyatt and Gillian almost lose each other several times, but they fight for each other. I wanted to smack him a few times, so like a man, ready to make decisions for his mate without asking her. Love Gillian, she is human but a strong character and she shows him that she can be his mate and he can be proud of her. It ends in HFN which is great. Looking forward to the next one. - 4 stars
I picked this story because it sounded good after reading the blurb, I love shifter stories, but mainly because Mr. Quimby is one of my faves and love listening to his voice, pleasant, warm with enough variation to make it interesting.- 5 stars
(Wyatt and Gillian): Wyatt is a bear shifter. While in the military, he signed up for an experiment for shifters but their experiment went wrong and his teammates were affected in a bad way. Gillian is his mate and has been so since he met her in elementary school. When he got back from the military, he called off their engagement and went off grid. Now 18 months later, he's in trouble and needs her help. This story was pretty basic but there's some really messed up military experiments in the story that make it so mysterious. It becomes a romance on the run and they avoid being caught by the government. There are some really hot scenes and some vicious action scenes but other than that, I didn't find anything spectacular about this book. It was ok.
I liked Running Bear and plan on reading the rest of the series, but I think it could have been better. The story is told in third person POV. With the story being a novella, it should have been written in alternating first-person POV, or in Wyatt's POV. First-person POV would have made it easier to connect with the characters, especially Wyatt. He comes off stubborn and closed off, and because we don't get to read his inner thoughts/struggles we don't really understand why until later in the story. Reading his thoughts would've given readers to really picture his conflict with his past and second nature, as well as, see him as broken and not difficult.
3.5 stars. This book is listed under more than one author name. Whilst I enjoyed this story, where it was going and the characters we met, I never really connected with Gillian or Wyatt. I cannot pinpoint why but partly it was due to Wyatts woe is me attitude, yes he had suffered in the military, but it just seemed overkill. Gillian just did not come over as a strong character even though she proved she was. I think the lack of fire between these two was part of it. Even though this plot has been done many times, I would like to read more in this series as it has intrigued me and I want to know what happens.
3.5 stars. This book is listed under more than one author. Frustrating.
Wyatt is an emotionally and psychologically wounded bear shifter fresh out of the army. Gillian is his human mate and fiancee. Wyatt had a tough time in the army. His superiors figured out his secret, and used his bear to their advantage. Wyatt is so damaged by the end, he thinks it's unsafe to shift, and it's unsafe to be with Gillian. So he breaks up with her and disappears for 18 months. Gillian finds him with terrible news: his fellow army buddy shifters are being hunted down and murdered. Gillian and Wyatt flee from the government, and fall in love all over again.
I loved this story. It was fast paced, sexy, and exciting. Can't wait to read the others.
This is a quick read when you want something to read but don't want to get caught up for hours. It's good enough writing to keep you going from page to page to the end of the story, but easy enough to break away when real life distractions (phone, coffee refill, etc.) rear their heads. More details in some areas and less in other areas would have made this a better book, but all in all it was fun to read.

The book is great It has shifters, romance, suspense and intrigue. The characters are well developed and the plot is unusual. It has some steamy romance and military action. Overall it's a great story.
It's always interesting to see how each author views shifters. I found this interesting, as the author included the military, and things that can be hidden. I enjoyed the story line and the character's, I can't wait to read the series.
I loved that she didn't give up on Wyatt. I understood where Wyatt was coming from. I liked that she was in on the rescue of Wyatt. I loved that Wyatt came around and accepted that Gillian was his mate. I will be reading the next one in this series!
Paranormal meets military in not so good a way. The author writes a wonderful story about what happened when the military experimented and enhanced shifters. Read what happens when it comes to hush hush.
I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.
DELIGHTFULLY ENTERTAINING !!! Title: Running Bear Series: Wounded Warriors Author: Kit Tunstall (Kit Fawkes) Designation: Book One of Series, Novella Length Paranormal Romance, Can Be Read As Standalone(App 100 Pages), No Cliffhanger, HEA Reading Platform: Kindle Unlimited My Rating: Four Delightfully Entertaining Stars**** This was my first time reading Kit Tunstall's (Kit Fawkes) work but it definitely won't be my last. I'm completely smitten with the Wounded Warriors Series. By the time I discovered Tunstall (Fawkes), the first two books of this series had already been released so I binged and read both, back to back. Fortunately for me, the third book of the series is scheduled to release in only a couple of weeks. Sweet! (Although my review is not shown as a verified purchases, I read both books using Kindle Unlimited so it kinda is a purchase of sorts since I pay Amazon $9.99 per month to borrow and read an unlimited number of books available in the program. The only catch is I can't keep the books in my permanent library; I have to return them when I finish but I can always borrow them again or buy them if I wish. Love Kindle Unlimited!)
I adore sexy shifters and addicted to anything paranormal but give me the perfect combination of both generously seasoned with spine-tingling danger, pulse-pounding action, perilous adventure, gut-wrenching angst and heartwarming romance, and I'm in heaven! And that's exactly what Tunstall has delivered with Running Bear, the first books of the Wounded Warriors Series. Running Bear is an exciting, fast-paced novella length paranormal romance with a well written third person narrative. The dialogue is well executed and flows smoothly. There were a few grammatical errors and typos but all were relatively minor and nothing that actually distracted me from the story. I really liked the premise for this book but it's the characters who truly grabbed my attention and captured my heart. They were realistic, well-portrayed and very engaging. I was completely drawn into the story during the prologue and by the time I started the first chapter, I was already sniffling. I fell in love with the two protagonists, troubled bear shifter and former soldier Wyatt, and feisty, courageous and very strong-willed human Gillian. I became immediately vested in their lives and found myself railing at the injustice of their situation. My heart literally broke for both Wyatt and Gillian. I realize this was fiction but this story is based on a veteran suffering from PTSD made even worse by the fact that this brave former soldier was also a bear shifter who was traumatized and exploited by members of the very government he had volunteered to serve. I realize it's not quite the same but my ex-husband served in Vietnam and suffered silently for years before being diagnosed with PTSD so I know how this condition can affect a person. It's truly distressing as well as heart wrenching to witness. I felt completely helpless. Did I like this book? Yes, very much! Would I recommend it? Absolutely and I am! Each of the books in this series features a different couple finding love and can be read as a standalone but there is an underlying interconnected storyline with many of the same characters appearing in each story so I suggest reading all the books of the series in the order of their release. Will I read this author again? Definitely, just as soon as she releases the next book in the series! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! This one really tugged at my heartstrings and I shed a few tears but by the end, I was happy, satisfied and well entertained. Handsome stubborn bear shifter veteran suffering from PTSD who is determined to protect his mate even it means giving her up forever-check! Beautiful courageous human heroine determined to save the love of her life and make him realize how much they need each other-check! Action, adventure, danger, drama, angst, heinous villains and evil machinations-check! Heated attraction, fiery passion, steamy sexy and heartwarming romance-you bet! That and a whole lot more! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
Wyatt wants to protect Gillian, including from himself. After the military had run tests and 'enhanced' his soldier, he feared what changes in his bear were permanent and beyond his control. So, he takes off, leaving his love of 15 years behind. However, things go south quickly for his former teammates and she locates him to let him know he is in danger. Military intrigue and uncovered secrets provide the backdrop for a short, but intense read. I liked the idea of bears mating for life and neither Wyatt or his human mate being able to move on without one another. Even after 18 months apart, their attraction and love still ran deep.
Wyatt is an army veteran dealing with PTSD. To make matters worse, he’s a bear shape shifter who is trying to deny his wild side. Gillian is his lifelong mate, but brings out the bear in him. Wyatt tries hiding away from life and Gillian until his past threatens to kill them both.
Warning! This is only for grown-ups. There are a couple pretty graphic love scenes. There was a tasteful amount of dirty talk in each one. I scratched my head a bit at one particular piece of the action, but the world is a big place, full of things I’ve never seen before! Both scenes were well timed and enhanced the story. I was driving on the highway alone while listening to an ARC copy of the audiobook, and I found myself glancing out the windows like I was about to get caught! Not my usual fare, but who doesn’t like a romp in the daisies now and then?
It was nice that there was a paranormal element and a relationship that was about adults rather than teens. I think the teen love thing has definitely been overdone. Especially some ancient vampire that looks young fawning over sixteen year old girls. That guy must have never read a book, taken a class, or had life experiences if he found someone so naïve made a compatible partner. Yuck. Wyatt and Gillian were school sweethearts that stayed engaged during his entire military service, they had a refreshing dynamic in this neck of the genre.
I like the whole military group that Wyatt was involved in. It made for a very interesting plot and ended out with plenty of room for sequels. I just scanned the author on Goodreads and see a ton of shapeshifter books, but I think this is the only one in the series so far, makes sense since it was just published four months before my reading/ listening.
This was a short novel and I listened to the whole thing at once. I imagine the ebook version takes most people less than a week to get through. The paperback would make a lousy doorstop.
I hope to see more books in the Wounded Warriors series soon.

Fast paced, a little seamy novella length story with a happy for now epilogue. This book was previously released as Running Bear under the pen name Kit Fawkes
This is a wonderful start to Kit Fawkes new series. This first book in the series grabbed my interest and didn't let go till the end. Now I can't wait for the next one. This is Wyatt is a bear shifters who has served in the military. Having left the service after being in a special program he returns home . Gillian is his mate and is confused that he wants to leave her behind. Gillian contacts his old commander all is not well. Wyatt is unhappy when she tracks him down with terrible news. What happened to Wyatt when he seeks away for her safety? Will Gillian follow his instructions to Sanctuary and will he be there? What surprises await the team that are left? This is a definite must read is you like suspense and paranormal stories. I give it 5 stars. I received the free copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is a intriguing and interesting book to read and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. What you will find in this book is: drama, intrigue, suspense, a ex-military bear shifter (Wyatt), his mate (Gillian), a breakup, teammates eliminated, strange accidents, classified information, hybrid soldiers, action, danger, experiments, PTSD, mystery, lust, love, emotional feelings and erotic scenes. I found the story-line to be well thought out and written. The characters have emotional feelings according to the situation they find themselves in. I would recommend this book to people who like to read a well written bear shifter romance with a HFN.
4 stars Excellent bear shifter/military romance. Wyatt and Gillian have loved each other since they were young. All was well until during his military career entailed experiments on developing super soldiers. Wyatt feels he's dangerous and a threat to everyone. Gillian believes in him enough to die for him if need be. There are intense moments in the story and the characters are realistic. The story is a stand-alone with a HEA. I received a free complimentary copy book and chose to review it. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Fawke's books in the future.
