About Single Candles
Single Candles is a series of fictional short stories exploring pro-life issues in modern America. In a culture that devalues the human person, the pro-life movement has long faced an uphill climb. While fictional, the stories in Single Candles are examples of the real ways we fight to protect life from conception to natural death.

Brendan's love affair with writing started at a very young age. His earliest series, the original crayon and pencil versions of Nukular Wars in Space (originally entitled Nukular Wars in Spac, the 'e' was added later) sprouted from his early love of science fiction.

Ever the creative type, Brendan found what opportunities he could to put his ideas on paper. Choosing creative options on assignments, jotting down poetry, and making up songs with his friends, Brendan laid the groundwork for what would become his true passion.

Though he had attempted on multiple occasions to begin a novel-length work, he never found the inspiration to stick with it until his freshman year of college. While walking through the snow on an empty field on the Villanova University campus, he conceived the beginnings of The Traveler. The first two installments from the series (The Book of Iden) are available now with parts 3 and 4 in the edit stage.

Oh, and he didn't write 'They Loved Him to Death.' Goodreads has ignored his messages about that.

This novel weaves together different characters in a way that makes the pro-life issue central. There is a teen who gets pregnant at 17, a couple who are both politicians who are fighting for the pro-life agenda, and an aging priest who discovers a remarkable man on death row who has repented and goes on speaking tours. This book will force you to wrestle with the ethics of abortion, and show you the struggles of people to stand up for what they believe in and do the right thing. For instance, the politician Max Conlin is offered an opportunity to become vice president, but only if he works with a would-be president who is fiercely pro-choice. The pregnant teen has to deal with a number of difficult options. She meets with a counselor who tells her she will have nothing to be ashamed if she gets an abortion and all her problems will go away. But she is deeply connected to the growing fetus within her. Luckily for her, she has a supportive boyfriend. An interesting part of the novel is how the boyfriend initially is asked to stay out of his pregnant girlfriend's decision-making process. Everyone says they will support the girl no matter what she does without giving her any substantive advice about what exactly she should do. Some of the dialogue in this novel is artificial, especially the figure on death row, who sounds like someone in the lives of the saints, not a convicted murderer. But, overall, this is a thought-provoking read.
