Please don't read my review/comments if you haven't read the book or hate spoilers.

Overall a really good read (5 full stars) throughout the whole series of 6 books and a good finale for the good guys' story-lines.
I liked that there was also development of the side characters stories and their points of views were included.

Just a few aspects I didn't like/agree with.
I didn't really understand Slater's story and actions, he seemed to just do bad stuff to give the books an antihero character that .

And what about Bobby? I didn't like we were encouraged to support
A big disappointment how This development felt forced and out of left field.

Is there maybe a separate followup book for Bobby's story once he's out? hopefully a better man gaining an early release for good behaviour? Maybe even an MMM with ?

A Joyfully Jay review.

The last book in the series is finally here to tie up all of those open story lines. This book opens with Shontay as she is recovering from the attack at the prison and then attempting to make it in the outside world. That is the general theme here as a majority of the main characters are released from prison and they all have different hurdles to overcome.

The connections all remain as Shontay seeks out Trey and Trey is desperately trying to get anyone to believe him that Jeremy is innocent. There is closure for every story, but what I enjoyed so much about this series all of the way through started to work against it here. There are many characters and storylines that needed a resolution and there was almost too much to cover in the shorter length of this book. I suppose I was led to believe that at the heart this was Trey and Jeremy’s story, and while we do spend time with them together and they are one area of focus, there were also many other characters that needed page time.

Soaring Angel is the last installment in the Life Without Parole Series and as such we finally get to find out what happens to everyone.
I must say that I really liked the way that Jeff wrapped up all the loose ends in this serial. In this last instalment you not only find out what happens with Trey and Jeremy but you get the answers to all the question raised about the secondary characters through the previous instalments.
Shontay gets out of hospital after being shot saving Jeremy in prison, the first place she goes is to see Trey. Getting to Trey she finds Jeremys ex Chord attempting to murder him so that his secret won’t get out. After all is said and done, Sam gets the ball rolling on Jeremy’s release from prison.
After Jeremy is released from prison he tries to settle things with his family and discovers he has effectively been disowned more because he is gay than the fact that he’s been in prison for a murder he didn’t commit.
Corey Levins realises that what he has with Bobby isn’t real and luckily the path away from Bobby is eased by Bobby being moved to another level of the prison. Corey doesn’t let a failed jail-house romance stop him from finding happiness with a man that is singularly suited to him.
Rick Slater makes the biggest mistake of his life when he tries to entice Darren Anducci into killing Jeremy to shut him up about things he thinks Jeremy knows about Rick’s deal he’s got going on within the prison. Within a matter of days Rick finds out what it’s like on the other side of cell bars.
Jeff ties up all loose ends with the all of the secondary characters and then gives you the added bonus of revealing a bit into their future after everything is settled. Trey and Jeremy find a way to have their very own happy ever after as well.
I must say, I’ve never read a serial before but the way that Jeff has written this one I’m definitely going to be reading more in the future. Make sure you pick up your copy of Soaring Angel you won’t regret it!

A wonderful ending to the series. The only things that would have made it better would have been a boo for Shontay, even if it was something very new, a flirt anything?? And closure with Bobby. The epilogue was five years later. That's about the time Bobby would have been getting out with good behavior. We should have revisited that somehow. I am happy for Corey and his boo, and of course it's realistic that all the couples couldn't have ended up together and happy, but still. I really liked Corey and Bobby together, and would have liked Bobby to find happiness even if it wasn't with Corey.

4.5

All in all, this was a GREAT series, and one I would read again.
