I wasn't sure what to expect from this book and that is probably the best way to come to read any book like this, preconceived thought can always rob Utd of blessings, healing or just plain joy. But that's Julie's job to explain and she does have a great gift to do that. I had been taught for many years that to take a paracetamol for a head ache was a sign of a lack of faith, there is so much advice out there that to find a book like this is a gift from GOD. The title on the cover tells you what you need to know before you start to read so all i can add is to say that i have found this book a great help and a strong place to put my trust and foot on to move forward. Thanks Julie you make a difference.
The book was okay, but I felt it was a bit simplistic. Written from a Christian perspective with good reminders about Scripture to meditate on. But, I didn't feel it talked enough about depression and anxiety that is clinical in nature and biologically based. I don't disagree with anything the author said, but as a mental health professional I think some people need more. It's important for them to know this so they don't feel like they're doing something wrong if they don't feel better.
As I've gotten older, like others I'm sure, I've developed a cynicism toward certain things in society. My goal is to try and move away from thinking about what makes us different, and more closer to what makes us the same. A lot of those who get older feel that the time they grew up in is now lost, and it's a struggle to come to grips with that and embrace the ways "of those crazy kids." Some of us take it well, some of us don't. I enjoyed listening to this for some perspective and thoughts about finding what you personally need to renew yourself. It's easy to get swallowed up in negativity and forget what's really important in life. All I know is, God made us all and although there are a lot of differences in the world today, we need to try and work toward loving each other. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Touches on physical, mental, and spiritual realms of our lives and how we can make improvements to battle anxiety and depression. Thought questions at end of each chapter, makes a great daily devotion of sorts
I'm always on the lookout for good resources for pastoral care. This book qualifies. As a chaplain and a community care partner, I periodically engage with individuals who are anxious or depressed. The frequency of those interactions is increasing, so it's helpful to have good tools at hand.
