Helpful book. Wide variety of vocabulary.... animals, sports, plants, foods, places, days of the week, time, numbers, and some grammatical terms. It seems to be a good starting place if you're at zero. Unfortunately it didn't have a lot of words I need (like under, over, before, after, etc) and there aren't any pronunciation guides.
I picked this up at the library because I'm taking online classes in Portuguese (class is on hand embroidery... language spoken is Portuguese). My communication at this point is basically limited to smiling, giving thumbs up, and using Google translate to interpret the chat on zoom..... but I did understand the words canguru and mergulho.... so progress, right?
There were some odd word choices for the English examples ("pumps" instead of heels... my great grandma wore pumps. I don't think my older kids even know that's a kind of shoe).
