He does everything in his power to be noticed but to no avail: for Inés it's as if he does not exist. Hope arrives one day when he gets "glasses to see", and is convinced that finally she might notice him.

Charlie does everything to get the attention of Iris, a girl in his class. But she just doesn't seem to see him. One day she announces that she will be getting new eyeglasses, and Charlie thinks that surely now she will notice him. But even with her new glasses, she just ignores him. Charlie thinks that maybe HE needs glasses, so he tries on his brother's sunglasses, some rose-colored glasses, some 3D glasses, and even X-ray glasses. But nothing works. Finally, he gets a real pair of prescription eyeglasses from the eye doctor. The next time he sees Iris, she walks right past, but Charlie notices someone else behind Iris... her best friend Rose. Maybe Charlie needed to be the one to see properly and take notice.
I did not like that when Charlie tries on the X-ray glasses the story says that he can see everyone naked and that he can see the mailman's bottom. First of all, that makes no sense. Since if you were looking at people through an X-ray, you would just see their bones. Secondly, why is this book teaching that it's okay to spy on people naked?!?!?!
I'm also confused about why Charlie is obsessed with this Iris girl. That can't be healthy. First of all, he 's too little to be getting involved with girls. Why is that such a focus in his life? And then secondly, why is he wasting his time on a girl that is obviously not interested in being his friend? It just seems like his priorities are skewed or something. I get that the book has a positive message at the end, but it seems like it could have been handled in a more healthy way rather than just focusing his obsession on yet another girl.
The illustrations are cute. Most of the story is funny. I just don't like the moral messages in this book.

Carlitos is in love with his classmate Ines. Determined to be seen by her, Carlitos tries various ways to appear taller or wider, such as standing on tippy-toe or holding in so much air that his head inflates like a balloon. He acts chivalrously, opening the doors as Ines walks along. But unfortunately, Ines does not see him. One day, Ines makes an announcement to her classmates that she will soon be getting glasses so she can see. This makes Carlitos think that she is finally going to see him! But the next day, when she arrives at school with her new glasses, Ines still does not notice him. Astonished, he notices that she and her new glasses catch the attention of others and gets the idea that maybe he should wear glasses too. Carlitos searches everywhere for a suitable pair, until he finally goes to the eye doctor where he gets the perfect glasses. The next day, he puts on his father's cologne and his new glasses and goes to school ready to dazzle. But when he arrives something very unexpected happens. Does Ines finally notice him…? Find out what happens in this tender and amusing story that reflects the innocence and purity of childhood and the freshness of first love. With the accompaniment of sweet and funny illustrations, readers of all sizes will laugh and feel empathy for Carlitos. A beautiful tale that offers the message to not to give up and to receive life's surprises with a smile!

Because of his size, Charlie, this picture book's protagonist, is often overlooked by others. This doesn't particularly bother him until he develops a crush on Iris, a classmate. Despite his efforts, she just can't seem to see him. When Iris comes to school with new eyeglasses, she still ignores Charlie, but she gets lots of attention from everyone else. Charlie decides that he needs glasses too so that she'll finally notice him. He tries on glasses belonging to various individuals, but none of them works right. Finally, he gets his own prescription, but Iris STILL ignores him. Someone else sees him quite clearly, though. The final image and line makes the book worth reading even though the shift from him trying on glasses to presumably being prescribed a pair is a bit awkward. I don't love this series with its minimal line drawings and brief text, but I can see its appeal for its intended young audience.
