My favorite part was section on insults. Who knew that the ancient Romans used "mushroom" as a pejorative term (you fungus you!).

Half a century ago many of us learned a little Latin through the Catholic mass. Latin is seldom offered in schools today. This book contains a fun way to learn some fundamental Latin [the roots of many languages] through songs, games, puzzles, and jokes.

After taking several years of Latin in high school spending my time translating the Illiad and the Odyssey, I really enjoyed the humor of this book. I even told my old Latin teacher about this book.

Has useful as well as fun information. In some bits was a bit dry and hard to read (more textbooky than I expected).
Overall good.

A fun little jaunt through Latin humor and poetry. I have never studied Latin and this isn't the place to start, but it gave me some entertainment nonetheless.

This is a great book for anybody who is interested in learning Latin. The author draws from all stages of Latin history, from Roman times to medieval to early modern to contemporary. The author goes over some basics of grammar and vocabulary, and the focus is on functional Latin - for games, conversation, jokes, poetry, and general interaction. This is great for anybody who wants to use Latin for socializing (which should be everyone studying the language).
