Trapped. Alone. Unconcerned. Eight months after the outbreak, Bill Wright is trapped during a survey mission of Ireland. Surrounded by the undead, low on food and lower on water, he’s been in this situation before. Unlike before, help is only a rifle shot away. While waiting for the rescue he’s sure will come, he records the turbulent events since his last entry. The Welsh island of Anglesey has become a sanctuary for survivors from across the zombie-infested world. It has electricity, wheat, and not much else. Medicines and equipment, plants and fertiliser, books and batteries, and so much more are needed if this last bastion of civilisation is to survive. Scavenging expeditions depart for Svalbard, Liverpool, and the southern Atlantic, but a discovery is made far nearer, one which will change the fate of all those who’ve come to call Anglesey home. Set on Anglesey, in Bangor and Caernarfon, and in the Republic of Ireland, Bill’s journals continue. It’s recommended that you read the spin-off stories, Here We Stand 1: Infected & 2: Divided, before this novel. Surviving the Evacuation continues in Book 9: Ireland, out now.

Anglesey is book 8 of the series. Books 1-3 follow Bill and his group, books 4-7 follow Nilda and her group, Book 8 goes back to Bill's perspective.

A large part of this book was about trying to turn their group into a community with law and order. It wasn't as interesting to me as the previous books in the series, but I think it is setting up for future books. I'm looking forward to seeing where the series goes.

Back to the diary style I enjoyed so much from the very first books of the series. Another entertaining read but perhaps not quite as good as some of the previous books in the series but I look forward to reading the next installment.

First books started off strong, and now slowly stalling out. Going to give the next book a shot, if anything like this one, I think I’m done

This book series is wonderful, thank you FB for advertising it and to Frank Tayell for writing them all.. it kept appearing book 1 free to download and eventually I did, no going back I purchased books through to 12 and didn’t put my kindle down. Now just read book 15 which has just been released and reading them all again for the 4th time.

I am 44, my son is 13 but also totally enthralled, zombies are not my thing but this series is so much more than blood and gore, I feel lost when I finish the set and wait patiently for the next book to be released.

Long may they continue

Thank you

This one felt a little slower to me, although that could be down to me being a little under the weather the past few days. We return to Bill writing his diary as he picks up the narrative on Anglesey, and the story intersects with that of Nilda as she sets off to Hull with Chester. Tayell has woven such a rich and intricate chronicle of events, with compelling characters taking the lead in turns, and even though we here have the story looping back round to pick up where we left off with Bill and Kim, the story still drives ever forward.

Running out of ideas now.

I have enjoyed this series up until now. This book shows that the author has wrung what he can from the zombie idea. It's time to move on.

Another excellent volume in the series. Not the best of the lot but very, very good. Tayell's "not the best" is better than the best of a host of lesser authors so do not think this is a "bad" book - it is not. One someone sets a high standard as Tayell has done it is hard to make every one as great as the greatest of them... that being said, I have not read a mediocre or bad Tayell book yet and I am one short of a dozen in reading.
Spoiler alert- a much deserved death is accomplished in this book. Not perhaps by whom you would want the death to come but isn't that the way real life works as well? Very satisfying [remember, we are talking about a fictional character here] and on point.
As usual, there is no cursing or foul language in the book. In fact, the author makes a point somewhere in the book to have a character mention how authors are lazy when they have to use cursing in a book [unfortunately I can't figure out where my highlight of it is].

On kobo (1230001358674) 313 pages

Now established on Anglesey with Kim, Annette and Daisy Bill becomes involved in the process of creating a functioning community.

On a scouting expedition to Ireland he is separated from the rest of his group nd decides to bring his journal up to date. (This may cause some disorientation as we return to events already covered in previous books - Nilda's rescue and her run-in with Rob, for example. However the narrative makes progress - and we discover what happened to Rob, as well as where the satellite phone Nilda and Chester have on their trek originated.

Ongoing apocalyptic saga

I’ve enjoyed all the books in this series although I have to say the ones narrated by Bill’s Journal sometimes strike me as a little unrealistic in terms of someone actually writing in that much detail in a journal!
That aside, it was good to revisit the characters from earlier books, especially to have one of the people from the Nilda books mix in to the Bill Journal

brilliant read!

The series storms on… if you’ve read 1-7 you will enjoy book 8. There’s a great detective style aspect to this story running through that’ll leave you guessing to the end and there’s a brilliant set piece with a man hunt set in Ireland in the second half that made it an extreme page-turner. What can I say, get reading. Love zombie stories? You’ll love this. Enjoy…

Not as good as the first one, not as poor as the ‘extra’ mini-series based around Sholto. I still stayed up until two in the morning to finish this so it’s still compelling; there are flashes of great world-building; there’s some truly clunky dialogue. A fun read and substantive continuation of the series.

An excellent addition to the series, dealing with the challenges of the fledgling community. Good to see the relationship between bill and Kim expanding, this is one aspect that appears underplayed in the stories so far. Looking forward to book 9.

The Narrative Continue to Unfurl

I again enjoyed this volume of Surviving the Evacuation. I’ve enjoyed how Tayell continues to adds layers that interconnect through the various stories he’s been telling in these books, and my interest remains high. I look forward to continuing on!

Continuing the story

The story of survival continues, this time in Anglesey and with more lost friends. Will the human race survive, or are we heading down the path to our doom ?

Gripping. Lots of action and the story moves along very nicely. Superbly, actually. The society of survivors is growing and the story demonstrates that there are growing pains in Anglesey as it grows. There is the first murder in the community and no police force to investigate. Was it really the first or was it the first to be discovered ? It makes a person think about what essential services we have now and what would be needed, and why, should a civilization attempt to rebuild itself from the ground up. Very sobering as to immensity of the tasks.

Groups still go out to scrounge and investigate new areas and of course the 'undead' or 'zombies' still out number each person by millions.

Book eight returns to Bill. He is stranded in a billionaire's garage in southern Ireland, surrounded by the undead. Tayell uses this time to bring the Anglesey story up to date by way of flashback as Bill waits to be rescued. The burgeoning "family" of Bill, Kim, Annette, Daisy & Sholto. The trip to Svarlbard, and the accessing of the satellites is covered. A series of suspicious deaths, and the debate turns to a system of law and order, and also representation, as Bill is tasked with revisiting his old life in politics. Another great read, and as I am now up to date with the main story, looking forward to episode 9

Compelling Read

Read the first book as it was free to download. I was soon hooked by the characters and their journey. I wanted more. I have downloaded the subsequent books and three side stories now I'm keen for book nine.
Franks characters are well written and you feel you know them , you begin to root for them you become caught up in the narrative. Hurry with book nine please.

I have a massive soft spot for very well witten zombie-apocalypse type books.

This is first rate.

Excellent characters that i feel that i actually know and grieve for. Great "real" locations that i easily recognise and also lament as they are destroyed.

I simply cannot get enough of the intrigue and struggles and look forward to the continuation of the series, as humanity clings precariously to survival amidst savage competition and diminishing resources.
