Second Chances

Rate this book
What would you do if you were given a second chance at love?

Do you throw caution to the wind and follow your heart, or do you build an unbreakable fortress around your heart that only a special kind of man can penetrate?

Meet Ella Kemp and Wyatt Easton.

Heartbroken over a devastating loss, Ella is fairly certain that personal happiness just isn’t in her future. Everything changes when she meets Wyatt, a sexy beer crafter who against her will, shakes her out of her stagnant existence and awakens feelings in her that she thought were long dead and it scares the hell out of her. So she decides that it's the perfect time to leave New York City and return to her home in the Pacific Northwest to finally fulfill a lifelong dream of owning and operating her own hotel and evade his advances.

Wyatt has been smitten with Ella since he first laid eyes on her. Everything about the aloof beauty captivates him and obsessed with the painful secrets her eyes hold, he becomes a man with a mission: To make Ella Kemp his.

They first made their appearance in the Whiskey Row series, but in Second Chances, we get to know Wyatt and Ella up close and personally from their pasts, their secrets, and what the future holds for them.

SECOND CHANCES is the first story in the CIRCLE OF FRIENDS novella series. Each novella will feature a couple from the “Kismet Cove Six”, a group of tight-knit friends from high-school who’ve forged a lifetime friendship amid love, heartbreak, and secrets.

This is Ella and Wyatt's story. This is another great romantic read by this author.

Ella and her 5 friends are tight knit circle and Ella is their leader. They have all come back to the Cove where they said they would after fulfilling their dreams.

A tragedy changed Ella from the fun loving woman she had been. Wyatt can see into her soul and recognises her pain as he has experienced some of that himself. He sets his sights on her and pursues and breaks down the walls she has erected around her heart.

I loved the honesty in their relationship and you could feel the chemistry and the genuine caring. I also enjoyed that Ella was a bad ass better not mess with her unless you want a good ass-whupping!

Great read. I wanted to read Divina and Grant's story. Lord have mercy that will be a good one.

Second Chances by D.A. Young is a story of growth and redemption. One of the things I loved about this story is that no matter how many skeletons the characters had in their closet it was always someone who stood by them with love and without judgement. Compared to the authors other series this story for me was a little more sensual and focused more on the intimacy aspect. Not to say that this story lacked heat because believe me the love scenes are plenty but the focus was more on the growth of each character and the emotions we all go through to become whole again.

Ella the infamous assistant with a nice left hook is a woman with one heck of an emotional past. She has secrets that impact those around her but because of who her family is appearances must be kept up. Feeling suffocated by all the turmoil around her Ella leaves and starts over fresh. But when she finally decides to come back home she didn’t plan on finding love and peace again.

Wyatt the hottie with the man bun is just the man to break down all the barriers Ella has put up. But what happens when the man you are falling for has just as many secrets as you do and his past comes to confront him as well? Since Ella’s abrupt leave of the cove she has closed her heart off to all those around her. Trusting is hard when those who you trusted the most have betrayed you. Sometimes meeting someone to share in your pain is just enough to bring you out.

In true D.A. Young fashion you have a list of well-developed characters who have a story as well. I mean come on the title only implies you are getting a story about multiple people. Ella’s friends are very intriguing and they add to the emotional aspect of the story. I loved the flashback scenes from how each character started and how far they have come. Even though Wyatt is very attractive Ella does make him work for it. She tries to push him off at every turn but each time he comes back for more. Wyatt won’t allow Ella to give up on them and is willing to fight for her and every friend who threatens him as well. Ella’s friends: Fallon, Divina, Zay and Charlotte are a very colorful bunch.

You really feel like as a reader you have at least one friend like these characters. This book had a few twist and turns I didn’t expect that kept the story going. I will say that this book read like a soap opera bouncing between the different storylines and each story was better than the next. I know this author always has a list of characters but I do appreciate that she has a breakdown of each character so readers don’t get confused. All in all this was a good read and I would recommend it. Please judge this book for yourselves and not based on this one review.

Ella and Wyatt's story is depicted in this book. They are a branch off from the Whiskey Row series and a few of those characters are incorporated a bit in this book. I am not sure Wyatt could be anymore dreamy, but he is. DA Young has a knack for writing her male heroes like this lol Ella has been through the unspeakable tragedy of losing a child and going through a difficult divorce. Wyatt also went through a difficult divorce and lost a child as well, but that child is still alive. It's a long story, but unfolds in Second Chances. Indeed, they both get theirs with each other and it's a sweet story. Hot love scenes included.

This was a nice insta-love story. I didn't think it was going to happen that quick, but here we are. I'm curious about what's going on between Zay and Fallom so I'll probably read book 2, but honestly I'm not as into this series as I was Whiskey Row.

I have absolutely NO desire to read Tommy's book. And Grant is trash. I don't know... A lot of times I just felt like characters were being too immature and simply doing the most. So we'll see how book 2 goes.

HOT GARBAGE.

Edit: This is one of the worst books I’ve ever hate-read. From prologue to epilogue…….GARBAGE.

Sooooo......

Although I have given this story a five star (mainly because I really like MS. Young style), I thought it was some lacking.
I thought Wyhatt was just too sweet and too nice while Ella was just the right spitfire, she was the bomb... I do believe Grant would have been better for her than Wy...
That said, I also think it was a little bit "too much" how MS. Young tried to cram all 6 people's lives into this short story or something like that, which made this book somewhat not interested as much as I thought I was going to be enjoying it...
Then the "love" part felt so forced between Ella and Wy that I just wanted to finished it fast which in essence I did by reading it in less than 8 hours ( took me 4 hours to be exact)
Last, the best part for me on this book was when finally a little history was shared to make you understand a lot of the other characters. On a lighter note I don't think I will be reading Fallon and Zay's story, as I think they will not be that exciting. I am waiting patiently for the "ties that bind series" and maybe go read the last book on the Sullivan's brother, Casey and Sidra...
In another word, thank you MS. Young and I would still recommend anyone to grab this book and read it

Loved it!!!

Another winner, D.A.! Wyatt and Ella both had their share of pain and headache, but found true love and happiness with each other. Great book! If you've never read anything by D.A.Young, you are truly missing out!

"Is she happy?"

"Yeah, she really happy."

"And is it because of you?" Tommy couldn't help the anger and jealousy from leaking into his voice. He had no right to it, but he had to know that she was okay. "You're the one who makes her happy?"

Wyatt want to tell this fucker that he had the scratch marks on his back to prove it, but that was his and Ella's business. "I's like to take credit for it all, but it's mostly because she's magic, and vibes like hers couldn't be destroyed despite your best efforts. Stay away from her , Brewster. She brings out the good in people, but more than that, she also brings out their protective streak."

With their six foot four frames equally matched, Wyatt turned around to face him with a deadly expression. "She is the woman I love, and when you really love someone, you will stop at nothing to eliminate whatever or whoever threatens their happiness. Do you understand me?"

One way or another you will find yourself cracking up laughing.

This is the first time I read anything from D.A Young, and she has gain another reader, to her growing fan network.

I love Wyatt. I mean who couldn't love this guy? He wanted Ella, and guess what he gotten the woman he wanted, along with her loyal friends. And Wyatt and Ella truly belong with one another, the things they went through, and the betrayals that were done to them. Shake my head, they were meant to be with one another.

I really love that everyone get's what's dude to them, how the two love birds get their love. And the shady people get there bad Karma.

I really enjoy reading about how each person met one another, and mainly because of Ella. The way Ella is remind me of my group of friend. Ella is the leader of her friends, and in a sense the mom of the group. Always looking out for the best of them, and pushing them forward, always loyal. And that's how it is with my group, we all came together because of myself and they always look for me for help. And they know that I'll always be loyal to them, and try to be there whenever I can possibly be.

Reading about Ella in this way, made it easy to connect with her, and enjoy her story even more.

I really love that Ella doesn't allow anyone to disrespect her, and fight for her rights. I love the fact that she put the girl that Tommy was having an affair with in her place. Now I don't say violence is the answer, but sometime you just have to do what you have to do.

I do agree with her when she made a statement that she should've left when Tommy was talking that nonsense early to her, but everyone makes mistakes, as long as you learn from them.

I really enjoy that everyone have there back story of what bad things were done to them once upon a time. And it really sad, but there are just a few times where, there background story doesn't make it okay to do what they've done.

Now one person who I would LOVE to read about is Divina, and her story with Wyatt twin brother Grant. I'm more than curious to know what has happen between the two. There has to be a juicy story between them.

But the ending to this story leaves lots to look forward to in Zay and Fallon story. I can't wait to read that book either. The two in this story kept going hot and cold on one another, makes me wonder what was going on there.

Overall I really enjoy Wyatt and Ella story. As much as Ella was trying to run away from Wyatt and was not trying to give him chances. He was not allowing that, and was more than sure that he was going to get her to be his wife. The only thing that I wish is that Wyatt ended up getting his son Dylan. I know that he's not really his son, but I can really imaging Dylan being really heart broken, and extremely sad that his daddy isn't around. Because in a child eye, even if your not blood related, you are there daddy. You are the one that was there, and you have that connection.

Even though Wyatt ex wife has a back story, I don't care for her at all, or her sob story. What she's been through do not excuse what she has done. And then to add a child in the mix. Nope. Nope. Nope. She should be grateful that Ella did not beat her down.

There's a couple of people I dislike in the book, and hopefully if they're mention in the next book that will all change... But I don't really see that happening.

This is some of DA Young’s best work. She has managed to incorporate various supporting characters with much more finesse and without sidelining the primary characters. This was a struggle in previous novels.so I’m glad to see her master it in this novel.

The story revolves around Wyatt and Ella. Both have some wounds of the past that have followed them into their current relationship. I love how DA handles this. No stupid misunderstandings or toxic behaviors. Instead, we see two adults doing the work to heal and take it one step at a time. In the process, the steam is hawwwwttttttt and the romance is absolutely breathtaking. Wyatt is the ultimate book boyfriend. His issues were much easier to manage than Ella. Ella had some next level issues from the past. She’s really put together to have endured and done the things she had. She is a very developed character.

I love books like this. DA Young gives you lots of time with the couple. It makes for a satisfying read where you’re not left feeling unsatisfied or robbed in the end. Watching. Couple communicate effectively and navigating what life throws at them is much more fulfilling than watching a couple push and pull throughout the entire novel. This novella is a hidden gem.Great read!

Ella‘s backstory is so fucking dramatic. This will make a really good Netflix series but it would definitely have to be written as more realistic. Her story about her parents not supporting her wanting to work for the family business doesn’t make much sense. Unless this was the 1850s, every parent wants their kid in most instances to take on the family business. Totally unrelated, but related, never apply coconut oil even with sunscreen when you’re outside. unless you’re trying to cook yourself. It’s a terrible idea. we as a culture need to let coconut oil go and use it for cooking only. It’s unbelievable that a "basketball wife" would attract so much press attention especially after she’s no longer married to the player. She’s not a real celebrity.
If Tommy is to have a redemption arc, what he did should've been less fucked up. I don’t see anybody coming back from that although I’m looking forward to reading his story.
I read Fallon and Zay’s book before this one. She’s so annoying and immature. She matured in her story luckily.

Wyatt and Ella burned with passion and were compatible beyond words. When I first met Wyatt, I thought he was going to be very quiet and reserved. Wyatt was everything but quiet. He was protective, jealous, compassionate, loving, and funny. I loved his sense of humor. He had the right amount of sarcasm to keep up with the sassy women in his life.
Ella's friends were wonderful. They wanted to protect her at all costs. Ella was like the mother figure to them all. She showed unconditional love. Yet she did not receive it in return in her past. Her past haunted her.
When Wyatt didn't give up, I was overjoyed. Overall, I loved this story. I would recommend it to my friends. I would also recommend the Whiskey Row series. It's great as well.
Happy Reading!

"Through the fire..to the limit..to the wall.."

"For a chance to be with you..I'd gladly risk it all.."
And that's exactly what Ella & Wyatt did. There is a heap of ugliness, selfishness, misperception, lies, regret and anger compiled over years for all of these endearing characters to wade through, come to grips with and salvage something good to move forward but they manage it.
I love this brave in your face couple and especially that no matter how far Ella ran..Wyatt was right there.☺ Can't wait to see how the rest of the Scooby Gang finally get their acts together as they are a Hot Frikken Mess! 😱 It's exhausting but worth every line. Bravo!👏

Kismet at Kismet Cove

Ella and Wyatt walk through the fires of betrayal on so many levels yet come out stronger for it to find each other. Well written but a few grammatical mistakes which do not take away from the story. Thoroughly enjoyed this quick read. This author has rapidly become one of my favorites in line with Shelley Laurenston with the fullness of the characters and the outrageous humor. Well done Ms. Young!!

Loved it

I loved Ella and Wyatt's story. They were so sweet together. Wyatt wouldn't take no for an answer from Ella. I'm happy they were both able to overcome their past to find their forever with each other. I'm also glad that Ella was able to forgive her parents and form a bond with them. The future looks bright for Wyatt and Ella. Looking forward to the other stories to come for the rest of the crew.

Fun

This a fun read. Getting to know Ella and her friends. Ella and Wyatt are a cute couple, I 'm looking forward to the story of Grant and Divina. I liked the cameos of whiskey dow characters and the complexities of this group of friends. Would have liked Ella's reaction to Tommy's backstory.

Ella and Wyatt find themselves in the same city again. This time Wyatt will not let this woman go. He's willing to go the distance and then some. He was in for one heck of a ride. Ella's life was not simple, clean, or even pretty. The reality of it all was raw, dirty, complicated. This was a story of friends, family, new love. The layers made the story more.

Second Chances in deed

Really enjoyed these two and this book did not disappoint. Wyatt would be a dream come true and what women would not love to be able to pull of some of her fierceness
she's bold and stood up for the weak but at the same time gave them the confidence to stand on their own.

good story & the characters are a trip.

There were a few slow spots that almost had me tossing the book a-cross the room. I read the Men of Whiskey Row and decided to try another of the authors books. The editor missed a few mistakes in spelling and grammar but it was still enjoyable.

an extension of the Whiskey Row Series. This was a great read. I thought it would be full of untold secrets and half truths, but the story flowed without all the OTT drama. I will be on to the next in this series.
