The author describes the meaning of servanthood and reflects on the example of Jesus. Once you have read the first chapter you gain an appreciation of the concept and the biblical examples.
Bennett Sims, Bishop Emeritus of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta and president of the Institute of Servant Leadership, defines servant leadership as "honoring the personal dignity and worth of all who are led, and to evoke as much as possible their own innate creative power for leadership." The application of the principles of servant leadership included within this book transcends the church and can be applied to the secular world including work and business, science, environmental issues, and our culture.
Although the material is thought-provoking and scriptually-based, I found that it was written more on a meta-level in its generality and didn't drill down as much as I would have liked. The book is good as an overview of the subjectwith resources included in the index.
