Ball does a solid job situating the practice of spiritual direction within the Anglican context giving specific attention to the tradition within the Episcopal Church in the US.
This was a surprise. I was not expecting too much from this book. One only has to look for "Anglican" books on Amazon or other sites to see there are not a lot of books out there on "Anglican Spirituality" that don't begin with "Our Mother who art in Heaven." While I would not place the author of this book within orthodox circles, his knowledge of Anglican Divines, Anglo-Catholics, and Mystics makes this book worth a read. Anglican priests looking to deepen their ministry would do well to purchase this book and then start gathering all of the books he recommends. We would have a well equipped class of clergy in the States if we were living within the faith of our Anglican mothers and fathers Peter Ball quotes.
