We liked this book about the true story of Nathan Hale the first(?) spy for the Revolutionary War. Great story to point out heroism and courage. They do a really good job about pointing out what a hero he really was and why. They also showed why choosing to be a spy was such a hard choice.

-The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.

I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.

I wish to be useful, and every kind of service necessary to the public good becomes honorable by being necessary.

It is the duty of every good officer to obey any orders given him by his commander in chief.

My 4th grade students and I enjoyed this book immensely, our school is close to Nathan Hale's homestead, and each spring we went on our field trip there. I read this book to them with another. They felt so strongly about our Connecticut hero! Wonderful book!

Great history book with a good role model. Short enough to keep little kids attention the whole time.

An unusual person that has a place to be written a biography because of his secret help for his country's need

This is a wonderful book in which bravery and heroism are displayed. Nathan Hale was a brave soul and is known for his heroism through his death because he was a patriot spy. The only think that I did not like about the book was it gruesome ending.

We read this with the kids for a book club. It was great to talk about some geography, revolutionary war, honor, spying, and giving your life for a cause.

A very good beginner book. Very simple and comprehensible for the youngest of readers, with an excellent afterword.

This was a short biography on Nathan Hale's life. I found it interesting and wished the book had been longer. This is a great book for young children and struggling readers. It gives you all the important points in his life and could be used to do a report on him. I would use this book with my students if they chose him to do a report on. The illustrations in the book were colorful, detailed and well done.
