As with most collection of short stories, some were amazing while some were just okay. The book also needed a good editor. For example, one story had the word "collaborate", when it should have been "corroborate", such as confirmation from another person of the presence of a ghost or a strange occurrence. The stories I did like were: "The Fire Marshal Car"; "The Snuggling Ghost"; "Our Haunted House"; "The Professor"; "The Little Blond Boy"; "My So-Called Imaginary Friend"; "I'll Never Go in That House Again"; Bobby Didn't Like Us"; "Ghosts of the Forest"; "My Guardian Angel, Joe"; "The Sassy Doppelganger"; "An Amazing Coincidence"; "The Heinous Hitchhiker"; "A Black-Eyed Girl"; and "The House that Talks Back". I am a big fan of the podcast and I hope Jim puts together another book, although with better editing.

A Must-Read for Anyone Interested in the Paranormal

What the psychic and the ghost of Jessica of Georgia were arguing about was that the ghost wasn't accepting the fact that he was no longer among the living (story #65). Folks, y'all must check out this series, it's nonfiction and has the ring of truth. Can't wait for Mr. Harold next book.

I love this genre.

From a very early age, I was just absorbing things like a sponge. My favorites were ghost stories (authentic), and UFO's. I was lucky enough to witness UFO's with my family. I'm impressed..

Spooky tales

I found this book very entertaining and easy to read. I particularly liked that not only were the stories paranormal and spooky but also uplifting and afterlife confirming. I am at a point in my life where I am questioning the real meaning of reality and the stories have given me hope that their is a guiding force beyond our everyday lives.

True Ghost Stories: Jim Harold's Campfire 5 is a collection of stories centered around experiences people had with the supernatural and the unexplained. After a story of his own, he prefixes this book as tales of real stories told to him at campfires. To help the authenticity, editing has been kept to a minimum, to help with pacing and readability where needed. He wants the reader to experience these stories as he heard them those nights they were told to him.
When I was reading these bit sized stories, two to three pages each, I was reminded of an old writing saying, ‘show don’t tell’. I am afraid the majority of these stories tell you what’s happening instead of showing it to you. That's how most people tell stories. They don’t try to set any kind of mood or string events in a dramatic order. They just tell you in a ‘matter of fact’ kind of way.
I can imagine sitting around a campfire or dinner table hearing one of these ghostly tales to be more effective. We get none of the changes in verbal tone, body gestures of the original teller here. We just have to guess. Maybe the audio book is better for giving that impression. I wouldn’t know I only read the e-book version.
The writer transcribes these verbal conversations to the written word. I would of much preferred to see more reinterpretation of these stories.
The stories/experiences that I enjoyed were found later in the book. The last section in particular. They are lighter in tone and are about people haveing pleasant personal experiences of loved ones that just passed on. Haveing an unexpected tragedy in my own personal life recently it resonated with me and I can see people in similar circumstance might feel the same.
The ‘Ouija , Ouija, Ouija’ section was surprisingly fun to read. After reading sections of tons of ghost and shadow people related stories it was refreshing. I think that has to do with the fact that the stories dealing with the ouija board you got more insight into the lives of the people haveing the experience.
The UFO and bigfoot sections were light on content though most people picking this up, probably are more interested in the Ghost stories. Just know that before reading.
I can see someone reading one of these before bed or in a dim lite room for added effect. It would also be more effective if the reader believes in the supernatural as hearing these experiences would have struck a chord.I don’t believe in ghosts so that element was lost on me.
I picked it up for a little chill, thrill and delight on Holloween. It was somewhat entertaining though nothing to haunting over that for this skeptic.

Pull aside the curtain of strange stuff for a peek.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I have no clue who Jim Harold is and have never listened to his podcast. I have a feeling that is going to change. Grab a good cup of coffee and curl up in your favorite reading place because you won't be putting this book down any time soon. The book is formatted as individual stories which makes it a great book for carrying with you on errands but your not going to want to be disturbed while reading this one. Great stories, perfect balance between too weird to be believed and has a strong ring of truth. Read in one sitting, now to seek out the first four books!
