Reggie Ryan is a loser. No matter what he tried, it failed miserably. At the end of his rope and down on his luck, he stopped in a pawn shop to sell some junk he’d found while dumpster diving. While in the shop he stumbled upon a strange clown mask. Unable to resist, he traded his items for the mask and tried it on. Wearing the mask, Reggie felt like a different person. He was a different person. No longer was he someone to be stepped on and ignored. As The Clown he was a force to be reckoned with. That night, he goes into the city ready to show his true self. Will anyone be able to survive Clown Night?
I was searching for more of Mr Miller's books and found this one and found it was one of his earlier pieces. It's a great read and I loved Mr Pinky he was great and you could just see it all happening. But true to form a great story with lots.of blood and gore and twists throughout. I always know I'm in for a good few hrs reading Mr AND books. Not been let down once as yet. So I'm off to see what else I can find. If you haven't read this yet. I'd definitely recommend it.
Love a bit of Tim Miller! While not quite as brutal as some of his other books it’s still packed full of all the splattery goodness! Some great twists in this one!
I’m no stranger to extreme gore/splatterpunk, graphic violence or strong sexual content. After all these years, I was and still am a big follower of author Edward Lee and the late Richard Laymon. So, when I was contacted by author Tim Miller to review his new book ‘Clown Night,’ I agreed to give it a shot for two reasons. One: Tim Miller is fast becoming a household name in the horror world and two: nowadays, we have all these strange news and police reports of clown sightings. America's hysterical obsession with creepy clowns has become quite topical lately. What would be a better read for the Halloween season? Is the world done with urban legends or are we just creating new ones? Are creepypasta-style horror stories like Slender Man and evil clowns luring our children into the woods the new norm? While looking through other books written by Tim Miller, it appears that this clown culture has taken root in him as well, because he’s a bit clown obsessed himself…. And this was BEFORE all the sightings. Just looking at his series ‘April Almighty’ books, it features clowns in books 2-4 and series spin-off. (‘Welcome to Happytown,’ ‘Escape from Happytown,’ ‘April Reigns,’ and ‘Clown Apocalypse.’) I did some personal research of clown history. While I do not suffer from Coulrophobia, as many people do, I have always looked upon clowns as something that masks evil or as some sort of a demonic persona. I related it to their garish makeup and outlandish costumes. Throughout time, clowns have gone from being court jesters, tricksters, children entertainers, and circus performers to being used in horror novels and films. Everyone knows Stephen king’s novel/movie ‘It’ and recognizes Tim Curry’s adaption of the villainous Pennywise. In my psychological studies in college, I learned of a serial killer named John Wayne Gacy. He was dubbed the "Killer Clown” because his alternate persona by day was "Pogo the Clown." In his town, he would perform at charitable services for fundraising events, parades, and children's parties. Again, this masked his own dual, evil persona... So, I read and reviewed this book looking at it from all different angles and perspectives to come to my star rating at the end. First of all, author Tim Miller is adored by his big fan base due to the extremely graphic violence/sexual content and splatterpunk gore. Yet, I felt ‘Clown Night’ was quite mild considering I have read other books that were really much worse. That being said, I had no issues at all with his writing. In fact, the story starts off slow in the beginning. Then, it picks up with a nice, steady flowing pace. The intensity builds toward the end as the action really kicks in. When I started to read, it was very clear to me that the disturbed character Reggie was not a typical (or classical) serial killer. There were no signs at all given in his background history or kills that pointed in that direction. It's very obvious to me that he is more of a thrill killer. He just likes the sheer excitement of torturous murder, of blood pouring through his fingertips, and the media attention it brings. This all makes him feel more powerful, where, in his real life, he is not. The other sign of a thrill killer is that he doesn’t use the same MO throughout the rest of the story. It's not just women as a target, but men also. Plus, when low on funds, he robs stores for cash. That, in part, might be his biggest mistake. He is all over the place in Texas and sloppy, thus leaving clues everywhere. Enter our hero. What I really liked about this story is the strong female lead, Texas Ranger Claire Sanchez. I believe she is the real reason I was drawn into the story and continued reading to the end. I also love when books have main characters (especially law enforcement) that go rogue and are determined to get the killer at any cost. There will be two surprising twists and turns mid-story with a very strange, almost supernatural element at the end that comes full circle back to that clown mask. Now, the chase is on and you will have to see yourself if Claire Sanchez gets her man.
The reason for the 4-star rating instead of 5 is that when I got to the ending, I was little disappointed because the author left some unanswered questions. I was a little confused, but it was because I have not read the April Almighty series yet. Tim ends with a bit of an Easter egg. For those that have read the series, you’ll be thrilled. However, if you’re not a follower of those books, you are left in the dark. Of course, this might be Tim’s way of his hooking his ravenous readers into devouring his four book (plus multiple spin-offs) series. If so, he got me. I want to know more.
For an added bonus, we get an excerpt of a new book being released, November 18, 2016 called ‘Rape Van.’ Not sure if this one will be my kind of story, but Tim Miller has a certain style and flair that can make me read just about anything.
I've never read a book that was based around a clown... A murdering clown at that. Clown Night was entertaining, creepy and horrifying. For those with phobias of Clown's, welcome to your nightmare. Clown Night is a little different from other Tim Miller reads, not as gruesome, but the gore is there. Don't think you know how this book will end, because you take turns at different chapters. There is some surprise and oh shit moments that will keep you on your feet. Another amazing read from Tim Miller!
I hate clowns! I've hated them since I was a kid thanks to Steven King. Steven King does great horror, but Tim Miller does great extreme horror! This book enforces my hatred of clowns! lol This gets pretty gory. I wouldn't recommend this to someone with a weak stomach. I loved the narration by Mel Heflin.
Plenty of gore and violence. Definetly a page turner. The story has twists and turns that keep you glued to the end. Take a deep breath and start reading.
It was an interesting extreme Thriller, but I wouldn't necessarily call it horror. Either way, I enjoyed myself with this novel and am so glad I finally got a chance to read it.
For a good time, call...errr READ Tim Miller!! Always fun and always entertaining aaand always makes you feel better about your own life. EEECK!! Lol
The absolute bestest most badass popcorn horror I gratuitously and unashamedly indulge in. His writing just flows, pours right off the page. It bloodlets actually, quite effortlessly. He's a natural deviantly perverse talent, oh yes, yes, he is. His books as movies would so be banned in like, 69 countries. We, his loyal fans, would find means to underground congregate though. Oh yes, yes, we would. ;)
Meet Reggie, Reggie is kind of a loser. Bounces from dead end job to dead end job, no real direction in life, or friends. UNTIL, on a routine trip to the local pawn shops to get a little extra cash, he finds a very captivating clown mask. It just draws him in, he knows he's meant to have it. When he puts it on, it's like he's a completely different person. One with no inhabitations...or morals. Spree time!! Time for Reggie to take his frustrations out and earn a bit of a cult following in the process. Gotta love the all access can't be unseen You Tube new world we live in. The mask tells him (yes, tells him) that his name is Captain Pinky and when Reggie dons that Captain Pinky mask HE is a new man, a new menace. With a blood lust. And lucky for Reggie, in this day in age it really ain't all that hard to find unsuspecting sheep to take to slaughter, seeing as how everyone is always glued to their phones and oblivious to their surroundings anyway. Pokémon go, Pokémon went. Pokémon forfeit. ------
Enter Claire, pint sized Texas Ranger who has to deal with misogyny on a daily basis. She is more than man enough for the job though. Even when paired with a sexist FBI agent named Cross. Just makes her fight harder. She may not get the respect she deserves but she damn sure knows what she's doing and don't take NO shit from NO man.
The pursuit is on with Claire in full on Ranger mode and thankfully for her....Reggie ain't all that bright, he's left a few tracks uncovered. However, in walks a HOLY SHIT - HOLD THE PHONE game changer mid way twist that I did NOT see coming. Really just threw the whole thing into a new and exciting direction. Anything goes and this just got intense! At this point in the story, I couldn't put my Kindle down, I had to read it with my neck cocked odd cause of course the damn thing had to charge...with it's little 2 foot cord... Yea, I paid for that little maneuver later...UGH! hahaha
Aaaand imagine my delight when my VERY favorite Miller colorful badboy makes a cameo appearance at the end to uh, help put things in perspective. ACES!
Less graphic guts that I'm used to from Miller but that matters not for me. Tim is more often than not ~ blood and guts and tits and ass kind of extreme.....errrr, blood and guts coming ooout of tits and ass extreme. Yea, that's more accurate. :P But I can take it tamer or HOLY SHITBALLS hardcore as long as the story is strong. And yes, Miller stories are ALWAYS strong. His strong female leads always impress me as well. From April of The April Almighty Series to Alice from Twisted Fairy Tales. He knows how to create badass appealing women.
Miller actually wrote this before all that clown meddling mayhem rocked and shell shocked America, WOW, just makes it's even more fun to read!!! I just knew he was 'on the inside'. YEP, he knows a thing or two about a thing or two. Fabulous cover too, LOVE that creepy guy in the clown mask. OH WAIT, that's our Tim. :O Wonder what kind of spree he's been partakin in.....
He is always on my Kindle, I don't stray too far with them other books before needing my Tim fix, that's for sure. He's very active on Facebook and loves interacting with people, funny guy too. Tim Miller, THEEEE nicest guy with a heart of pure golden filth.
Your terrified of clowns. You come across one and come to find out, he is a killer clown. He will torture you and display your corpse in an imaginable way. You definitely would not want this clown to be at your party.
