The Old Testament is both common and strange to many Christians. On one hand, it contains some of the most familiar stories known to us, while on the other hand, it can be intimidating and difficult to understand. However, to lack a basic knowledge of the Old Testament is a great hindrance to fully grasping how Jesus Christ fulfills ideals and expectations that were set in motion hundreds and thousands of years before. Many stories of many leaders are woven into the Old Testament. In The Jesus and the Old Testament, Timothy Tennent focuses on four?those of Adam, Abraham, Moses, and David?that are of such immense importance that every Christian must know how to relate to them. Through the devotionals in The Fulfillment, you will come to appreciate the Old Testament more fully and see with even greater clarity the full power and revelation of Jesus Christ.
A fantastic little devotional. Tennent writes clearly and captivatingly. This is a great devotional, and a good resource for pastors as well. I'll no doubt use it in future classes to bridge the gap between the Old and New testaments, and to dispel the heresy of Marcionism that seems to continually creep up in our churches.
Tennent connects the Old Testament to Jesus. There are some who believe that we should disregard the Old Testament, but in order to understand the New Testament we must study the Old Testament. In order to understand God’s love, we must study both the Old and New Testaments. I recommend this book to individuals and to small groups. It opens up conversations in the group.
'The Fulfillment' is a great little book! The premise of understanding Christ through the lives of Adam, Abraham, Moses, David and the Suffering Servant is a great starter for understanding how the OT and NT are intrinsically linked. I highly recommend this book!
Love Tennent's way of showing how Jesus is woven throughout the entire OT and beyond. The priest-king connection was especially eye-opening. Still thinking about it. Will re-read soon.
