This childrens picture book tells the story of a rancher and his cow. Residents of Fukushima were asked to evacuate during the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, caused by the tsunami after the Tohoku earthquake in 2011. Some pets and livestock were left in the exclusion zone. The rancher came back to search for his cattle because of the emotional bond.

About the author

Eto Mori has been a literary star in Japan for over thirty years. She has won numerous major awards in Japan including the Naoki Prize, one of Japan’s most prestigious awards for popular fiction. Colorful has been translated into seven different languages, and adapted into three films. Colorful is her first novel to be translated into English. She lives in Tokyo, Japan.
