Bobby Dupree is a backup quarterback and has always been a backup kind of guy--both when it came to seeing the field, and also with girls. But when the starting quarterback goes down with a knee injury, things change for Bobby. He is thrust into the starting role, and the hopes of Trinity High School rest on his shoulders. Will the spotlight be too bright for him to handle? Dallas is from Texas Fridays, an EPIC Press series.
Personal Response In my own opinion Texas Fridays/ Dallas is a good book. I can relate to it because the main character plays football and goes through some tough times doing it. It's a good book the involves many different parts of a teenagers life. The main character realizes that one small injury can lead to a whole bunch of new opportunities. Plot Summary Bobby Dupree was a backup quarterback that was not really into football because he did practically nothing. His dad (Mel) was a rich man that invested into the school were Bobby went, but not so much the football team due to his son’s position on the team. Bobby didn’t know what it was to be a starter because he was always the backup. Until one day his junior year when Bobby's life changed forever. At practice one day, Edmund Daniels was just running some plays with the offense as usual, until a linebacker went and blew him up. He got hurt which meant that Bobby would be the starting Quarterback for Trinity High. He practiced and played well, even better than Edmund some said. The first game came around and he played awesomely. He was really a star player. Bobby got to finally know what it felt like to be a starter. He was invited to parties and all the girls liked him. A specific girl named Larissa was the one he really wanted though. She didn’t like football players, but Bobby was different. Bobby kept winning games for Trinity. At one party, an offensive lineman started to hurt a girl because she wasn't giving him what he wanted. Bobby got mad and told his coach that if he wasn’t kicked off the team he would leave the team. The coach was stuck, but he ended up kicking the offensive lineman out for the game. During the game, things were all tied up, but Bobby got hurt. The backup to Bobby went in and played a decent game, but still lost. After the game, Bobby was demoted to backup and he didn't mind it. It meant that he would be able to have his girl. Recommendation I would recommend this book to anyone who a short book to read fast. It is a good book for people who like football. I think the audience is pushed towards boys age 13-18, because it is talking about a teenagers life, and it has a couple explicit scenes. It's an easy book that is very good and I would suggest it to a lot of people.
Personal Response: This was definitely one of the best books I've ever read. This book had a lot of real-life situations that were presented. There are a lot of the same situations high school kids here at Weyauwega-Fremont are in. Overall, I really enjoyed this book.
Plot Summary: This book was about a high school in Dallas, Texas. The starting quarterback for Trinity´s football team was out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL. That left Bobby Dupree for the starting position. Bobby played outstanding his first couple games of the season until he decided to go to a party. He had sex with a girl at that party which was soon spread throughout the school. Bobby couldn't get it out of his head. They had a team bonding night that night and before the team went home, they all decided to go to another party. At that party, something tragic happened. Troy Degarmo the star offensive lineman for Trinity was forcing a girl into sex. After the girl came out screaming, Bobby helped her. Bobby then told Coach the next morning about what had happened at the party. Bobby told Coach he would no longer play unless Degarmo was kicked off the team. In the game against Katy, everyone was pissed at Bobby and did not block for him at all. In the end, Bobby left the team himself.
Recommendation: I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves football. This book is very detailed in action and you can just imagine it as if you were there. This book had a lot of real-life situations, and you can learn a lot from it.
Personal Response: I enjoyed this book because it mixes everyday high school life with football. The book is very easy to follow and is fairly short. It is a great book for a quick, fun read.
Plot Summary: The book starts off with the main character, Bobby Dupree, at a practice. He is the backup quarterback at Dallas High School. During that practice, the starting quarterback gets injured for the season. The season seems lost, but Bobby comes and plays well in the practice. The next week, Bobby played very well in practice and things looked up for Dallas. In the first game, Bobby played much better than the starting quarterback ever did. The team warmed up to him. Dallas then went undefeated, until their rival game against Katy High School. The day before the game they all went out to eat and then went to a party. Dallas's star left tackle got drunk and abused a girl at the party. Bobby went to the coach the next day and said he wouldn't play another down until the left tackle was kicked off the team. The school suspended the tackle and the team was very angry at Bobby. The first drive ended in a touchdown pass from bobby to their star receiver, Brian Bell. The offensive line let the defense through though. The coach got mad at Bobby because of the incident with his left tackle and took Bobby out of the game in the second half. Bobby was forced back to be a backup again because of the decision he made.
Character Development: Bobby goes from being a backup to a star player in Dallas. He keeps the same attitude throughout the book. Bobby got stronger and better at the game, but it was for nothing as he was put in the backup spot in the end.
Recommendation: I recommend this book to high school students because its very fun to read and is short as well. There is drinking in the book so high school students would be a good fit to read this book.

For teens into sports/football, you will finding this entertaining as multiple high school students deal with self-esteem and self-worth as it relates to their social circles and team sports.
This book was changing my personal view on it the entire time I read it. It was diverse and very twisty with everything that happened. It also felt like it touched more than one genre because if how much was changing in the book. The book was great but it was just a different read.
