Sherman had always thought high school was a real drag. He was looking forward to finishing his senior year so that he could coast through college, get a day job, and spend the rest of his life playing video games.

He is used to seeing Angels, but when a new girl transfers into his AP physics class, he thinks Demons might be more his style.

When his innocent crush leads him to the basement, he finds out that his school is exactly the kind of hellhole he always thought it was; only now he'll be lucky to escape before they eat his soul.

Succubus!: Hell High by Michael-Scott Earle is a short story of wild and crazy fantasy that I wish had been longer. I received this in one of many instafreebie promos I check out and I am glad I did, I got a good taste of this wild story. I just got an email that his new and longer, Hell High 2. This story is fast, fun and ends complete but sets up for an additional story if need be, and very clever along the way. I am glad I got mine free, I think I might hesitate about a $3 price tag for such a short story, I don't care how good the story is.

I read the premise of Hell High and thought it sounded like dark comedy with lots of potential. After reading them, I have to say I was right! A lot of fun dark humor ensues.

Sherman is finally a senior in high school. That doesn't matter much, because a nerdy, anime and comics addicted kid like him, who is literally ignored and overlooked by everyone, even his parents, has no chance to get Charlotte, the girl of his dreams. Sounds like any 80's teen comedy, right? Did I mention that the girl of his dreams has wings and tail? Or that 9 out of 10 students in school is some kind of supernatural creature, whether it be Devil, Vampire, Werewolf, Naga or just about any other creature you can imagine? Sherman has seen them his whole life, so sees nothing unusual in the variety of "people" After following Charlotte as she left the cafeteria in an unusual rush, Sherman follows her into the Boiler room, where she confronts him. He lets slip he can see her true form, which is supposed top be impossible. He lets slip he can see ALL their true forms. This is a problem, since there are many factions actively fighting one another, and they are not allowed to show their true forms on Earth. This is especially a problem since Charlotte has been sent to assassinate a devil, and has been unable to find him so far.

After Charlotte confronts and kills the devil, all hell breaks loose, somewhat literally, as some of his fellow supernaturals of his faction discover his body and give chase. Since there are multiples of them, this doesn't look good for Sherman and Charlotte as they try to escape. After pulling the fire alarm of the school in hopes of escaping from the crowd, they are almost captured. Sherman somehow finds another ability, that of breaking glamours. As every supernatural lays exposed in true form, fights to the death suddenly burst out all throughout the school! The scene is played for laughs and horror at the same time.

Thus starts a wild chase as Charlotte and Sherman have to escape what has become an all out supernatural war. Dodging flying body parts, fireballs and talons, Charlotte and Sherman have to also avoid the faculty, who happen to be huge armed devils. After a harrowing run, Charlotte and Sherman manage to find a place to try and make their escape, and barely escape with their lives. Of course, the escape is to Hell, not exactly a place Sherman wants to visit.

I was really pleased with the characters in this book. Sherman comes across as a real person, and his musing to himself about Charlotte, comics, manga and other pop culture make for some hilarious scenes. Sherman bases his actions a lot of the time on stuff he's seen in comics and manga. Just funny stuff. Charlotte is also a fun character. Going back and forth from teen girl and big bad succubus assassin, its hilarious watching her try to deal with Sherman's mooning over her, especially since she, like everyone else, can't remember his right name. Since it's a shorter story, the rest of the characters aren't as fleshed out, they are still filled out enough to make good contributions to the story. The high school setting felt real, like every high school I've ever been in.

David Dietz handles the narration. He does a great job switching between characters, and gives each character a life of their own. His narrative pacing is good, and really sucks you in to the story.

All in all, this is a fun novella that is a good start to a series I hope goes into quite a few more volumes.

Nope nope nope nope nope.

The worst case of insta-love and even worse: unrequited insta-love.

I do think my opinion would be different if I read this story and although the narrator was very good... The main character... Nope nope nope.

Creepy McCreeper™

''I love you!

I think you're beautiful''

Yes, declaring your love to somebody you never had a conversation with and then say something about their appearances first, is the way to go.

And the whining! So. Much. Whining.

I had to stop after chapter 004 (?) even though it just started to begin to explain the plot.

How I envy Sherman seeing and being with those things. I was worried of him being dragged to hell though. I just really hope the adventures will continue. It was fun to read, teenage crushy-thing mixed with legendary creatures, it was just so good to be true.

I absolutely loved this book. I went out and bought the rest of the series already. I'm currently halfway through the second book already and I'm loving that one too. The witty banter back and forth has me in stitches. The only bad thing about this book is how short it is. The second book is longer, but this one is about as long as a light novel. But it is definitely worth the price. It's worth every penny spent.

I feel like the entire book was just one slow build up to a single joke at the end. Kind of like an old episode of Are You Being Served. And somehow that was utterly fantastic. When the ending makes you face palm and laugh at the same time, someone has done something right. And at the same time the story still managed to be compelling and leave me worried enough about the main character that I'm going to end up reading the 2nd book as soon as I have the opportunity.

hahaha this was so bad. i mean i figured it was either going to be an amazing parody or the same old tired shit as usual and unfortunately ...

also for some reason no one in this book likes to use contractions and it makes all the dialogue sound REALLY awkward. literally the best parts about this book were the succubus calling him by the wrong name every single time and the fact that it was free.

Creepy in a bad way

This "book" is the longest I've ever taken to finish 78 pages because I had to first stop cringing every paragraph.

The main character is a stalker otaku in the most stereotypical way. He's human but is totally cool with all the demons and vampires at his school because that happens in manga.
He calls a succubus his love even though they have never spoken and sets his watch to look up from his comic books when she walks into the room.

I read on hoping to find some redemption but none was to be found. I too was drawn into hell.

I read this book for free with Kindle Unlimited and I still want my money back. Put this author on your watch lists, your government watch lists.

I picked up this book as something quick to listen to between two larger audio books. I figured I would listen a few minutes at a time, but I just ended up listening to the whole thing. I think I picked it up for under $5 and it was worth the risk.

The story itself centers on a senior in high school and the things he sees in that high school. The story involves monsters, demons, devils and a hot succubus girl. I will admit, about 10 minutes into the story I was hooked and found myself enjoying it.

The ending is too abrupt (but it was at a stopping point). This is to be expected since it is only a 90 minute book. I just found out that there are two more books that are about 3 times the size of this book (over four hours each). I will end up picking those up.

It is exactly how I would expect a young man in high school to write, angst filled, slightly naive and obsessed with all things sexual. But it is also written with light touches of humor and a great deal of violence. I enjoyed reading Succubus and feel that the author used quite a bit of talent while weaving all of these threads to create an entertaining read.

The "hero" is practically definitively the cringiest version of a weeaboo I've ever encountered anywhere, online, in fiction, or in real life. If it was tongue in cheek or more self aware I maybe could have overlooked it, but no, it took itself completely seriously.

I kept waiting for the punchline. The piece of story that would ensure me that the author was aiming for some sort of satire, or just having a laugh, possibly even at the expense of their readers.

It never came.

I don't know what to say other that I'm fairly amused.

Main character Sherman, seeing supernatural beings and thinking that's normal?

And his whole obsession with Charlotte

.

I'm in great disbelief. Ha ha!

This story takes the dorky main character trope to the extreme. I flip flopped between painful cringing and shocked snickers at just how bad this character and short story was.

If I hadn’t accidentally bought the second book already I probably wouldn’t continue this story but since I do then here’s hoping the second one is better than the first. That would be one hell of an… achievement.

Michael-Scott Earle’s writing about a high school nerd falling in love with a Succubus named Charlotte, my favorite character in the book, was well written and deeply engaging. I could put myself right in the young guy’s shoes. I can’t tell you anymore without spoiling the story, but I sure wish it had graphic novel illustrations!

While this book was short and slightly amusing (and pretty much named every supernatural creature you can think of), the main character was like a perverted creepy stalker and it sounded like it had been written by a horny teenage gaming dude.

Sherman is a funny, awkward 18 year old high school students who loves manga and video games and for some reason everyone keeps forgetting his name. Charlotte is a great character. This was a very funny short story.

Fast Read

For a short story, it was good. The mystery aspect. The monster students at school and the grand battle at the school.

Succubus! Hell High is a hilarious short story about a high school nerd infatuated with a succubus in a school full of demons and monsters that only he can see. This action packed story is a quick read with a terrific ending. There are more books if you love it, but it's just fine as a standalone as well.

I received a copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary review.

This was definitely an interesting read. There’s also surprisingly a lot to take in for such a short story.

From what I know, the author specializes in Harem’s, and from the looks of it, this’s a huge departure from his usual format (not that I’m disappointed as the story so far is really something). That said, this’s a pretty good book so far.

The story quickly throws you into the world of the supernatural. It’s amazing what Sherman sees on a regular basis thanks to his gift that’s only briefly mentioned. I’m just as surprised as Charlotte in that he’s coped with this as well as he has.

Speaking of Sherman, he’s an interesting character. He’s not bad but honestly, he’s a hopeless romantic. I know he’s the typical zero to hero nerd who’s life is thrown into a 180 tailspin, but some of his actions and thoughts range from ridiculous to actually creepy. Hopefully he’ll get better as the series continues. But yeah, it’s amazing how much he thinks Charlotte’s in love with him when really, she’s initially just using him to get out of a tight spot.

As for Charlotte, the only Succubus on campus, she doesn’t have much of a character so far. She’s just the badass who ends up dragging her boy around after completing one of her hits. In that regard, she’s cool. She’s not someone you want to associate with due to her nature, but you can’t help but still be interested in her. This leads to one thing after another where the students finally see each other’s true forms and an all out war breaks out.

This leads me to the next scene. The fight scenes are pretty cool. You really feel like you’re in the middle of the chaos. Reading how Charlotte skillfully made her way out of the melee all while looking after Sherman (who’s name she doesn’t even remember until the end) was pretty cool. It’s revealed she’s an assassin, so naturally this was only second nature to her. The scenes where she either flys or breaks down doors to get him and herself out of trouble was also cool.

Her fight with the furies was pretty cool. It’s a shame she didn’t kill then like she planned.

The rules for why the creatures have to fight each other are somewhat understandable the more I think about it, but are still pretty ridiculous. It’s funny how some of them were friends and even dating before the big reveal. Man, it’s a shame they couldn’t act the same way afterwards.

Hell High is an insanely good book. It would be better hopefully in the series if Sherman becomes more capable and less weird and maybe Charlotte will actually remember his name and warm up to him somehow. That was my only gripe with the book. Otherwise, I enjoyed this wild ride. If you’re looking for something short yet intense, then this’s for you. I highly recommend it.

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

When I first saw the plot for this, I thought it would be brilliant, but instead I found it rather lacking; the main character comes across as a stereotypical nerd and is pretty much suffering a case of insta-love with the main female character. though I feel the insta-love sorta qualifies him for the plot twist at the end. Like seriously dude. She's a succubus. And she never got your name right. Think with your brain for like half a page of this book. .

Also the main plot device is never explained and that really bugs me.

I really wanted to like this book... but I just couldn't.

Original. Smart. Funny. But way short.

This is a very fun short read. It's entertaining and attention worthy. Like other reviews I have read, it has potential. I would have left over for this book to of been a lot longer than it was. I hate that it ended when it felt like it was getting to the really good part. Ill definitely be purchasing the second book in the series in the future to see what happens next to Sherman and Charlotte.

A Really Fun Read

Reading this was a lark. Sherman is clueless except about his love for Charlotte. She doesn't even notice him until his power starts a war. Will a succubus become interested in a human other than for selfish motives? Or can Sherman actually get her to return his love? Will we find out in the next book Satan!: Hell High Book 2? I will definitely be reading the next book.

Cute

Great premise or three and a nice novella feeling story. The basic plot has to be described as how far will a nerd go to make out with a high school hottie, especially a succubus?

Like it.

Only bad thing is that this story is so damn short. Went from school to stalker episode to discussion to epic fight to running and then conclusion with betrayal. Everything pretty much happened way to fast in my opinion.
