Okay so I actually think I may have mixed this up with volume 7 but all I can say is that I enjoyed this or #7 immensely. I always talk about the characters and truly they are amazing, they are all so different from one another and I enjoy reading about them and what ties them together.

Slight spoilers below.

The slow burn is UNREAL. Some cringey moments that I had forgotten from the anime re-appeared, but overall I really liked this volume. The pacing of the main romance is again, very good. It's clear that it's not going to be a straightforward path for Nanami and Tomoe to confess their feelings for one another, but the romantic tension between them is clearly there. This should make it frustrating as a reader - waiting this long, almost 50 chapters in and yet scraps of any possibility of them finally being together are messily scattered about this volume. This is actually a good thing because it was almost like a gentle reminder that Kamisama Kiss is about Nanami's personal journey to mastering her new role as a Kami. The fewer scenes of romance also allows Nanami and Tomoe's journey to (hopefully) eventually being together to feel a lot more natural, giving a more bildungsroman feel to Kamisama Kiss rather than pure romance being served every chapter.

This volume felt more about Tomoe than Nanami, whose character is developing at a steady pace. She's still the same slightly hot headed, determined new kami, always willing to put others before her, but it's genuinely nice to watch her master her skills as a kami.

Tomoe has realised that he's falling for Nanami, but finds himself lost and confused in his emotions, torn between his duty as her shinshi and his feelings, having looked down upon humans for as long as he can remember.

Some more tidbits of Tomoe's past were explored and I can sense some excellent foreshadowing going on here. Sub plots are interconnected with each other and the main plot, and it was nice to see supporting characters from the earlier volumes reappear. For me, it's a sign of good, diligent writing when supporting characters reappear and are connected to the main story line in some way in spite of initially being introduced in a sub plot.

I remember being a little lukewarm about the last edition I read but this one... This one more than made up for it. Seeing Nanami blast her way into a positive outcome using nothing but sheer willpower and the full force of her kindness has become my favorite part of Kamisama Kiss. I love that she's learning to stand on her own as a kami. The pace just feels so natural to her arc-- she's still stumbling, but her mastery of her ofuda and other aspects of her power just feel so rewarding. And I love that Tomoe is struggling with his love epiphany so much as Nanami begins to glide through both her own feelings and her godly duties. It's a cool reversal from where we began, with Nanami on the constant struggle.

I think I messed up-- I have volumes ten through twelve checked out, but it appears I forgot volume nine. I'm going to try to find it online because this installation was just so darn good.

(Also, there's a moment in Chapter 161 where Tomoe flips out over something and Mizuki straight up says he wishes Tomoe would just die. It's so funny that I legit lost it at the circulation desk. What a manga.)

I continue to adore the series as I read it for the first time. I watched the anime years ago, and I forgot a lot of the details. I am really enjoying this journey of reading it! I continue to adore Tomoe and his snarky sense of love and duty, while Nanami still loves endlessly and offers the best parts of herself.
An excellent shojo fantasy all around.

LONG-HAIRED AYAKASHI TOMOE IS SO HOT
I SAID WHAT I SAID!!!!! 🔥🔥💖💖💖

And it's funny how now Tomoe is finally being conscious around Nanami thanks to Mizuki hinting that Tomoe might actually like Nanami? Ugh so cute.

It also seems that Tomoe has no memories of being in love with a human girl before? I'm curious about his past, but honestly, it's obvious that once he regains his memories, something bad is going to happen. I don't want him and Nanami to get hurt :(

Not my fav in the series so far, and it seems like some parts were rushed? Like, I wanted to see Tomoe mull over his feelings as a yokai longer before entering back into the shins hi contract... But I'm just a picky bitch and love seeing him confused about his feelings 🤣
The end brou6me right back, I'm so curious to see where this goes!

Good installment. I really enjoyed Tomoe’s realization of his affections. I picked up this series after Google told me it had Inuyasha vibes and my goodness, there they are and they did not disappoint!

Love this volume! Nanami escapes with akura oh from the land of the dead and finished out her kamisama duties. Tomoe realized his feelings for her and sticks by her side! I’m excited to read on!

Now it really does remind me of Inuyasha. Anyway, this was good. Awkward but hilarious in some moments. But it had its share of other moments as well. I'm really liking the series so far actually. Before I wasn't sure about reading this, but after hearing how good it is, I thought, what's one more manga to add to my piling reading list. Good volume.
