Himemiko, ayakashi ruler of Tatara swamp, is happily dating her human sweetie Kotaro. But yokai/human relationships are hard to manage, especially when the human has no idea who he’s dating! When the supernatural starts to intrude, can Himemiko tell Kotaro the truth about herself? Or will she lose him no matter what she does?
鈴木ジュリエッタ Suzuki Julietta is a Japanese manga artist born in the Fukuoka Prefecture. Her pen name comes from a character named Julietta Sakamoto from the seinen manga series, Air Master. She likes cats, koalas, and sharks. According to an interview with Hakusensha, she first started drawing when she was in her second year of elementary school in a sketchbook of Japonica. During her free time, she meets her friends, goes for a drink, or out for a meal. She states that although she doesn't read much, she enjoys works by Junji Itō. Her favourite character is Ashia and mentions that male characters are easier to draw in general.
another filler volume focusing on himemiko and kotaro, but is essentially important in emphasizing that humans and demons can overcome the hurdles to be in romantic relationships💖
It pains me to give this volume such a low score; I want to give it a 4/5, but the storyline is just not stellar enough in this volume. The artwork is as beautiful as always, that's not the issue. I feel bad not giving it at least a 4 because the artwork is still so wonderful.
My problem is that Himemiko and Kota's romance becomes the main arc in this volume, which not only involves a lack of Tomoe scenes (!), but I don't feel that Kota and Himemiko have the kind of love that makes for a compelling story. I like Himemiko as a side character because she's kind of cute and funny, but it takes an odd girl like her to find affection for Kota.
Kota is socially awkward, which is fine, because so am I, but he's been in a romantic relationship with Himemiko for a year and still can't look her in the eye when he speaks to her, nor has he displayed or spoken any stronger affections than "I like you" (that's a direct quote). He's always concentrating on his puzzle cube. It's just not really a love worth reading about; except this is now a multi-volume arc in the middle of my favorite manga, which makes me kinda angry.
It's about time we got back to Himemiko, the lovely catfish princess of Tatara swamp. In this new arc, it's all about her romance with human Kotaro, exploring whether humans and ayakashi can have relationships. Of course, this theme relates back to Nanami and Tomoe's relationship, but the difference is that Kotaro doesn't know that the girl he's been dating for the past year isn't human.
I'm glad to see some potential resolution with Himemiko's story, which began clear back in volume one. Nanami, as a relationship kami, helped instigated the match, so it will be fun to see how everything works out. There's some deeper issues at play here as well as Nanami shares similar problems and differences in her own romance, none of which has been resolved for her. Whether there will continue to be parallels between these relationships remains to be seen.
All in all, this volume is a cute installment in this adorable series. My only complaint: not enough Tomoe. I love the fox shinshi, what can I say? ^^
Nanami Momozono wants to help her friends get married in her shrine, but of course she ends up kidnapped by a romantic rival, a prince whose marriage to the bride-to-be was previously arranged by his parents.
This is a silly and simplistic side-quest for the series, but gosh darn if the energy of the plot and purity of the characters involved didn't make me happy. All the characters are separated, but they actually seem to be using the time apart for some reflection and growth.
The end result seems obvious, but I'm still looking forward to seeing how it all comes together.
This was a nice change from the previous volume. I quite liked it. ------------ This volume was about the master of one swamp wanting to marry the mistress of another swamp. The man was extremely rude, and used to having whatever he wants whenever he wants it. But, Himemiko of the swamp already has a human boyfriend. But, when Kota finds out she's a catfish yokai, it endangers the relationship, and she leaves, promising to never forget him. But, Kota cannot forget her another, and he wants her back. Meanwhile, the human kami is trying to teach Nishiki to be more polite and win love for himself instead of trying to force a woman to love him. (BTW, anyone else kind of want to see her and him end up together?)
Who will win Himemiko's heart in the end? Who will accept her for what she truly is? -------------- This volume was provided to me by VIZ Media, via Edelweiss, in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed here are my own.
How much you like this volume hinges on whether you like Himemiko and Kotaro as a couple. Personally, I've never been a fan. I've always thought their romance lacks depth. On top of that, it bothers me how Himemiko has been lying to Kotaro so I'm just relieved to finally see it addressed. Sukuna and Kotaro are such an unlikely duo that it's fun to see them interact. I'm also surprised by how much the swamp prince grew on me. He seemed like a spoiled brat, but it quickly becomes apparent that he's sheltered and a product of his environment.
3.5 stars! I'm not super into Himemiko's story so this volume dragged for me, but I am enjoying Nishiki's growth! Saving a dying dog is a win in my books ANY DAY.

This volume was so cute! The story focuses on Himemiko and Kotaro's relationship, which is a goddess/human relationship. The struggles they have to be themselves and the perseverance to be together will hopefully kick Tomoe in the butt about him and Nanami pursuing something.
I continue to absolutely love Ryu-Oh the man who is a total simp for his wife and dolls out life lessons on love to young teenagers like it's nothing.
Nishiki's growth just from spending time with Nanami is sweet. Also, I have a feeling this is yet another heart she will steal. And he's just so pretty.
This was such a cute, sweet story. I'm looking forward to the next volume.
I love this series, and this installment was great because we get to see more of the secondary characters and their lives. Even Nanami is almost in the background. We don't see much of Tomoe which really sucks, so while even though I like seeing more of Himemiko and Kotaro I miss the fox.
Brief Blurb Himemiko an Kotaro are on a date when Himemiko's 'intended' comes out and mistakes her for a human, he hurts Kotaro and kidnaps Nanami hoping that Nanami will perform the wedding ceremony.
Another oddball volume, I really liked the change in the prince over time, but wasn't super invested with Himemiko herself. As with most of the side arcs, I wanted to see more of Tomoe and Mizuki instead. It feels very similar to Fruits Basket in some ways, mainly in an average high school girl being able to make everyone a better person, so in some ways this volume felt a little flat, but I did like the prince starting to change, particularly because of how much I disliked him to start.
Finally at the point where we’re past the anime content...! I really like this arc, though I was confused initially that they were underwater suddenly... Im a little surprised by the Dragon King’s behavior, but in a good way... I’m curious why Himemeko didn’t have Tomoe give her a fresh shapeshifting magic (though the fact that it lasted a year is pretty impressive)... I’m curious to see what happens next... I’m a little afraid this swamp prince is gonna fall for Nanami...

While I generally find the Himemiko/Kota story line to be annoying, I actually enjoyed this. It really gave Nanami a chance to shine. I do enjoy her interactions with Tomoe, but often, when she's with him, she seems to be clumsy and unable to fend for herself. I really like seeing this side of her that we don't see as much in the show. This story is very well-written and it kept me wanting more.
This volume is largely about Himemiko and Kotaro, and I don’t even mind! Nanami and the shrine are whisked away to a swamp where she ends up tutoring an arrogant Yokai on the art of falling in love. This volume ends with the story arc incomplete, so you’ll want to have the next book close at hand!
It’s cool to see characters like Himemiko, Kotaro, and Ryu-Oh getting revisited so much 🥹🥹🥹 Suzuki-sensei really loves writing hot-headed and arrogant men 😂
