I found that this book was helpful, informative, and inspiring. Author Renessa Boley Layne uses her own life experiences to present a number of concepts about what it means to be successful and the multitudes of ways that we can go down the wrong path, whether on accident or intentionally. As someone who is still in the early years of their career, I found this book to be an incredibly important read. I am very appreciative of the fact that Layne was so open and honest in sharing her story in this book. She is unafraid to admit to mistakes or fears that she had along the way, and this makes her a more compelling author. The vulnerability she shows made it easy to connect with her, and it made the advice she was giving more credible for me. I like that Layne spent a good chunk of this book just acknowledging the reasons someone may go down the wrong direction. It is not just a list of tips for successes, but a deep exploration in how you got to the point where you realized something needed to change. This makes this book a great read whether you are at the beginning of your career like I am, searching for advice from those farther down their career paths, or if you are feeling like it is too late because you have already had a career for this book shows that it is never too late and gives advice on how to realize you deserve better and take action to go down the right path for you. Fast Lane, Wrong Direction: Insider Secrets to Redesign Your Success and Reclaim the Passion, Purpose, and Balance You Lost Along the Way talks about passion, happiness, balance, and fulfillment and is, in my opinion, an important read.
