Populated by Miami's fits and misfits, Just Johnson: The London Delivery traces the exploits of our hero -- Johnson -- a driver and delivery man for Stephen Teitelbaum (aka The Fat Man) the 490 pound criminal mastermind who manages the remains of Meyer Lansky's Miami Beach operation. Johnson's live-in, bi-sexual and hypersexual girlfriend, Alexandra Cohen (aka Al), is a marketing consultant whose employment takes her to London. She asks Johnson to join her. To afford the trip Johnson arranges a delivery for one of The Fat Man's many friends. From London to Miami and back, Just Johnson: The London Delivery is a rumbling, unstoppable freight train of a tale. Although bouncing between the 80s and mid 90s of Miami, this novel confirms that some things will never change in this city. Miami is weird, weird, weird - and that's why we love it so. -Just Johnson: The London Delivery is a funny, fast-paced spy thriller filled with zany over-the-top characters who find themselves entangled in events larger than themselves.- Huffington Post
Timothy Schmand fled upstate New York’s oppressive winters and settled in South Florida in 1982. He has spent the ensuing decades immersed in the human experiment known as “Miami.” Schmand’s award winning fiction has appeared in literary journals, popular magazines and anthologies, regionally and internationally.
Schmand’s novel Just Johnson: The London Delivery was published in 2016 by Jitney Books, a micro-publisher celebrating the best of Miami’s literary talent.
Just Johnson by Timothy Schmand is a fast and fun read that takes you from the Miami of the 80s and 90s all the way to London. It reminded me a lot of Charles Willieford’s Miami Blues. In Just Johnson Schmand introduces us to Johnson ( driver and delivery man for a mafioso AKA The Fat Man) and his sexy and highly sexual live-in girlfriend Al. His mission is to deliver a letter to a fellow at the Cuban embassy in London. It sounds simple enough, but despite being the end of the Cold War, things get complicated. Johnson has run in with spies, tries to flee from Fidel’s henchmen, takes part in threesomes and ends up hanging out at the only Jamaican bar in London. The book is really funny and the dialogue is perfect. Highly recommend it. Schmand knocked it out of the park!
Just Johnson: The London Delivery is fun, sexy and full of suspense. The characters made me grin; the action put me right in Miami (my home) and London (one of my favorite cities). Read and enjoy!
