Meet Lord James Harrington and his delightful wife, Beth; residents of the tiny village of Cavendish, deep in the heart of West Sussex in England. They adore hosting seasonal events, running their country hotel, keeping the local folklore alive and listening to the latest murder mystery on the wireless. But mysteries don't always remain on the airwaves...
James and Beth are taking a well-earned holiday with Stephen and Anne in Polpennarth, Cornwall, where the Cornish Legends festival is taking place. James learns that, during the opening procession, a local fisherman vanished and, when further men disappear in broad daylight, he can't help but put his sleuthing hat on.
The streets were crowded yet no witnesses have come forward. If they were kidnapped, why is there no ransom demand? What are the flashing lights off the coastline? Who is the eccentric woman on the moors? Have the Cornish Legends really come to life? And are the ladies of the Women's Institute involved in some way?
James delves into the mystery but his questions come at a price. Can he really afford to ignore the dangers?
Join James, Beth and a handful of regulars on the spectacular Cornish Riviera and enjoy the latest adventure.
Author note: I'm delighted to publish the sixth book in the Lord James Harrington series. One of my regular readers summed these books up well commenting on the great sense of community and that this aspect is just as important as the mystery to her. That pleased me enormously as that has always been my aim. A big thank you to all of you that continue to enjoy this cosy series. As you know, I write simply for the fun of it and it's wonderful that so many people appear to be getting as much fun reading them.
For those new to the series, the first two or three books were 'testers' so you'll find some novice writing there - that's why they're the price they are. But training and workshops and now the skills of a professional writer and editor ensure I continue to improve. Would I liken these books to any other series? Probably the Paul Temple novels by Francis Durbridge for the mystery part. The community/folklore element comes from my own experience on living close to a very community-based village that celebrate customs and traditions.
Hope you enjoy this latest adventure and welcome the world of Lord James Harrington.
This is the first book that I have read by this author. I prefer to hold a book & actually turn the pages. Thus, I ordered the paperback edition. Cornwall is a favorite place of mine, and as the setting for Lynn Florkiewicz’s Lord James Harrington and the Cornish Mysteries is Cornwall, I thought,”Why not?!”, and I am very pleased I did decide to read this book. I enjoyed the story, the characters, the setting, of course, and the festival dedicated to Cornish Legends which is taking place while Lord and Lady Harrington visit Polpennarth, Cornwall. I would love a pasty right about now! Being an Anglophile, there is one aspect of this cozy mystery that I loved. This story is so very English and reminds me of my stays in Cornwall-Si. Ives & Saint Michael’s Mount are mentioned. I have stayed in the former and visited the latter on my last trip to England. Thank you for bringing back such lovely memories to me. Lastly, I think Nibbin is a dynamite character. I look forward to your next story!!
What a great mystery with a fun and interesting backdrop of a Cornish village and their Folk Legend Festival. Love the ongoing characters and the new characters were complete and interesting as well.
I am a very big fan n I miss these characters waiting for next books it's easy cuz they r easy to want to hang out with them. They also have a great marriage and another thing is the mysteries have twists you do not expect hope you take the time to read them all
Taking James and Beth (Lord and Lady) Harrington out of Cavendish might seem like a risk, but in this instance it works. There is still some folklore to revel in and of course a mystery. There's still some familiar friends to catch up with although in some very different places. Still an enjoyable read.
I really enjoyed the Cornish Mystery. I was at a bit of a loss when I'd finished the other 5 books so I was over the moon with this new story. I can't wait for the next one...make it soon please.
Enjoyable Lord Harrington mystery. The description of the area and the Cornish background was as enjoyable as the mystery. Mystery was also well presented.
This was very disappointing as a mystery and is my least favorite of this series. The bits describing Cornwall and the "Legends" festival were interesting but the kidnapping of 3 men and 1 woman didn't grab my interest at all and the ending was rather pathetic to me. Glad this series is over with.
