Happy Valley local artist Ken Hull cruised 7,000 miles on The Mighty Steed (his 94 Harley Sportster) exploring and tasting his way across central PA to find the best places for food, beer and coffee. As described by the author, "Its more than a guidebook its a journal, travel log, memoir, fact, fiction and hopefully a good resource and read as well. It's written more like a journal. Its about my experiences as Ive traveled over this great state and even beyond in some examples, and the places Ive discovered and folks Ive met along the way." goinglocal , GOING AN ADVENTURERS GUIDE TO UNIQUE EATS , COOL PUBS & COZY CAFS IN CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA BY KEN HULL , buy local , centre pa , happy valley , journal , memoir , nittany
Part restaurant guide and part travel journal, this is a nice little book for anyone in the Penn State/Harrisburg area. The author is a local artist who patronizes only locally owned restaurants, with an emphasis on those with well-crafted beer and a friendly atmosphere.
The only fault: This book could have used a good editor; the author freely admits that spelling is not his strong point, and it shows. If that type of thing drives you crazy, perhaps you should just take a deep breath and plan to read this book with a red pen at your side.
Ken believes in keeping it local instead of supporting the chain stores that drive the locals out. This book is a bit of a review of the places and a little of his memoirs. A nice sense of humor, along with letting people know where some of the great places are you may not have thought about going to.
